Steady Progress Across JB Marks as Infrastructure and Utilities See Weekend Boosts

Despite weekend constraints and ongoing repair challenges, JB Marks Local Municipality continues to push forward with service delivery across roadworks, electricity, water, and sanitation. Various wards have reported visible progress, with some areas reaching full completion while others prepare for the next phase of upgrades. Residents are advised to stay alert to public notices regarding detours, water outages, and safety precautions.

🛣️ Road Repairs & Paving Milestones
Bathoeng 1 (Wards 08/10/14) has officially achieved 100% pothole-free status, including full rehabilitation near the Promosa Road and Devil’s Corner traffic light.
To accommodate weekday traffic patterns, a weekend shift has been scheduled for:
Walter Sisulu Street (Ward 15) – focus area: Shell Garage section
O.R Tambo Ave & Fleischack Street – final pothole patches to be completed
Paving Update:
Mbobi Street (Ward 14) is now fully paved and will open to traffic on 13 July, after final touch-ups and concrete curing.
The paving team will now shift focus to Madi Street (Ward 16, near Usave).
⚡ Electricity Network Enhancements
Repairs and Installations:
Ward 1: Ready board replacement at 14867 Ext 11
Ward 9: Installed two 160A circuit breakers at Sounder Water
Ward 11 & 19: Streetlight repairs completed in Bosele, Keamogetswe, and Ben Pienaar Streets
Ventersdorp (Ward 34): A 200KVA transformer was installed in Boikhutso Village, improving electricity reliability
Metering Updates:
12 electricity cut-offs and 5 reconnections were completed in high-usage areas
💧 Water Services and Emergency Repairs
A 160mm main pipe burst was reported in Constantia Street (Ward 26), caused by rock interference. Crews are actively addressing the issue, with possible water outages anticipated in nearby zones.

🚽 Sanitation and Sewer Line Work
Blockages Cleared in:
Chabalala Street (Ward 8)
Top City Clinic & Omphile Street (Ward 19)
Maphongo (Ward 14)
Ward 11 Sewer Project:
Phase 1: Completed and site cleared
Phase 2: Trenching begins 14 July, with pipe laying and backfilling scheduled thereafter. Temporary road closures and traffic diversions are expected.A public meeting will be hosted to brief residents on the timeline and safety measures.
♻️ Waste Management & Environmental Clean-Ups
100% waste collection achieved for household, business, and hotspot areas
Illegal dumping removed near Ikageng Library and Cnr Moraladi & Bathoeng
Yellow Fleet Work: Road scraping underway in Doornkop Village (Ward 33)
💧 Reservoir System: From Stability to Crisis
Old Works (81.82%): Supplying CBD, industrial zones, and government buildings, stable but slightly down from previous day.
Vyfhoek 6.4ML (100%): Fully operational, but 3.4ML backup tanks remain offline due to pipeline work. No immediate risk, but backup capacity is limited.
Ventersdorp Complex:
9.5ML at 60.71% – leak investigations launched
13.5ML at 57.14% – nearing critical levels
15ML at 46.43% – marked EMERGENCY, water tankers deployed to hospitals
Ikageng System:
Main (81.82%) and West (100%) – stable and supporting overflow zones
Eesterandjies:
5ML tank remains EMPTY for 7 days, tankers deployed daily (05:00–08:00 & 16:00–19:00)
10ML tank still isolated, with valve replacement delayed until 12 July
Engineering Measures:
Leak detection, geotechnical surveys, and daily audits remain ongoing across all sites
