The death of a loved one is a heavy load to carry, no matter how you slice it. Grief is an unpredictable beast, and when the loss is through suicide, it brings with it an extra helping of confusion, guilt, and overwhelming sadness. Let's be honest, no one really wants to sit alone with those feelings. That’s why the Grief and Suicide Bereavement Support Group is here to offer a space to unpack it all.
Every second Wednesday, from 17:30 to 18:30, a small group gathers at 5 Esselen Street (Pregnancy Care Centre). It’s a spot where tears are welcome, and no one minds if your mascara runs a bit.
The group is a free community support group for adults (sorry, over 18s only, no minors, no exceptions). The idea is to give anyone who’s lost someone to suicide a place to talk, listen, and find that fragile thread of hope that can get lost in the shuffle.
Grief doesn’t come with a “how to” manual. It’s messy, it’s complicated, and it’s different for everyone. But the good news? It’s also a natural part of healing. Feeling your feelings is the first step to adapting to a new reality, one that no one asks for, but has to be faced.
If you’re ready to chat, cry, or just sit quietly and listen, join the group. Contact Mercia on 082-961-3152 if you’ve got any questions or need directions (and yes, the phone’s actually working).
So, if you’re keen to join a community that understands what you’re going through, there’s no need to RSVP. Just rock up and let yourself feel. It’s tough, but no one has to go it alone.
