From classrooms and cricket pitches to bustling bakeries, cattle auctions, and grand openings, Week 36 was a mix of community pride, sport, business growth, and good coffee. Let’s take a look back at everything we got up to.

SportStroom 3 September – SportStroom: Cricket World Academy 🏏
On Wednesday, our SportStroom spotlight shone brightly on the cricket field as we sat down with Johan Vorster, John van Wyk, and Diaan van der Merwe from Cricket World Academy (CWA).
They spoke passionately about nurturing talent, building discipline, and creating opportunities for young cricketers in Potchefstroom and beyond.
From grassroots coaching to preparing players for provincial and national levels, CWA is proving that cricket is more than just a game , it’s a tool for personal growth, teamwork, and lifelong passion.
For anyone who loves cricket or has kids dreaming of the pitch, this was a must-listen.

SkoolKompas 1 September – SkoolKompas: Lessons Beyond the Textbook
We started the week in the classroom, chatting on SkoolKompas with Mr. Chris Conradie of Laerskool President Pretorius.
He gave us valuable insight into teaching Technology, Natural Sciences, and Geography, three subjects that shape how learners see and understand the world around them.
But the conversation wasn’t just about academics. Mr. Conradie also opened up about discipline in schools today , how approaches have shifted, what works with modern learners, and the importance of balancing structure with empathy.
It was one of those talks that leaves you with more perspective on how teachers guide the next generation.

Ikageng 3 September – Ikageng School League: Sarafina vs Seiphemelo
Meanwhile in Ikageng, the Extension 7 Grounds were alive with the sound of cheering fans as the Ikageng School League rolled on.
The U15 match saw Sarafina Secondary School clinch a 1–0 victory over Seiphemelo High School.
Later, in the U19 match, Seiphemelo High School struck back, winning 1–0 against Sarafina Secondary.
We even caught up with Anele “Trent” Motlashuping, the man of the match, who shared his game stats and thoughts about building on this performance for the next round. His confidence and determination were inspiring , definitely a player to watch in the league.
4 September – Ikageng School League: Boitshoko vs Potch Boys
The next day, all eyes were on Ikageng Stadium for another round of the School League. Boitshoko High School took on Potch Boys High, and the results were emphatic:
Boitshoko won 1–0 in the U15 division
And then repeated the feat with a 1–0 win in the U19 match
We captured highlights of both games, and the atmosphere was buzzing , proof once again that school sports are where future stars are forged.
Our Eyes in The Field 3 September – Business Buzz in Potch
Wednesday wasn’t just about cricket. We also hit the town for two business highlights:
Flo-Tek North West Grand Opening Countdown -We spread the word about the Flo-Tek North West Grand Opening coming up on 6 September at 1 Maree Street, Potchefstroom. With brands like Kress and CAT, expert advice, great specials, live OFM Pop-Up Radio, Shandor Potgieter in the house, plus a beer tent and prizes, this was the kind of event locals were already marking in their calendars.
Coffee & Bakery, Loopstraat - On a lighter note, we popped in at Coffee & Bakery, tucked right next to Loop St Restaurant. From freshly baked sourdough and decadent waffles to that perfect cup of coffee, this spot is fast becoming Potch’s go-to morning stop. Open Tuesday to Saturday (06:00–14:00) and Sundays until noon, it’s the kind of place you’ll “accidentally” visit more than once a week.
5 September – Brahman National Auction
Friday took us to a completely different but equally exciting scene, the Brahman National Auction at Koöperasie Kroeg en Kos.
This event drew farmers, breeders, and buyers from across the region, all gathered to secure some of the finest Brahman cattle in the country.
It was more than an auction; it was a meeting point of tradition, expertise, and the future of livestock farming. The energy was as high as any sporting match we’ve covered with bidders locking eyes and raising paddles in fast-paced rounds.

6 September – The Big Flo-Tek Day
Saturday finally brought the moment Potch had been waiting for: the Grand Opening of Flo-Tek’s new store in Palm Square!
Locals poured in to explore the wide range of tools, hardware, and irrigation products on offer. There were massive specials, giveaways, and live entertainment, plus the vibe was kept alive with food, drinks, and rugby on the big screen. It was a grand opening done right, not just a store launch, but a community celebration.
Looking Back at Week 36
From school discipline to cricket dreams, from Ikageng football battles to Brahman auctions, and from bakery treats to grand business openings, Week 36 was one of contrasts and community spirit.
It showed us how Potchefstroom and Ikageng move seamlessly between education, sport, culture, and commerce. Whether in classrooms, stadiums, farms, or shops, the common thread is passion and that’s what keeps our towns alive with gees.
Here at The Go-To Guy, we’re proud to capture and share these stories, because they’re more than just events on a calendar - they’re the heartbeat of our community.
