Week 37 was one of those weeks that reminded us why we love what we do. From family stories in the classroom to sports dreams, charity initiatives, and waffle stops that could fix anyone’s sweet tooth, Potchefstroom and Ikageng had us on the move all week long. Let’s rewind together and relive the highlights.

StroomStories 9 September – StroomStories: Skuur Skoffel
On Tuesday, the studio came alive with Heleen and Lerine, the team behind Skuur Skoffel, a plaaspartytjie with heart. Happening on Friday, 12 September at Lekwena Wildlife Estate, this fundraiser will support NG Welsyn.
Expect delicious food, live music, a kids’ play area, and a cash bar, basically everything you need for a perfect Friday night out. And the best part? Every ticket helps someone in need. This is community fun with a bigger purpose. 11 September – Hartspad Charity Walk/Run
Thursday’s StroomStories had us lacing up our takkies for a good cause. We chatted with the organisers of the Hartspad Charity Walk/Run, set for 20 September 2025 at Hartspad Adventure Trails.
With an entry fee of just R50 (online or at the door), the goal is simple but powerful: collect old shoes and takkies for learners in need. It’s more than just a run or a walk, it’s about giving kids the chance to step forward with dignity and confidence.

SportStroom 10 September – Benno & Janco
Wednesday morning we caught up with Benno and Janco, childhood friends turned teammates, who’ve been together since Grade 2. Now, they’ve both been selected for the Luiperds VKB team and are heading off to Italy!
They spoke about their journey through school rugby, the challenges of balancing life and sport, and the excitement of representing Potch internationally. Their story is proof of how dedication and friendship can take you places, literally. SkoolKompas 8 September – SkoolKompas: Marius & Chrisane Pruis
On Monday’s SkoolKompas, Drikus Viljoen sat down with the dynamic teaching duo Marius and Chrisane Pruis. Married, both teachers, and both deeply passionate about their profession, the couple opened up about the unique value of building a life together inside and outside the classroom.
They shared stories about supporting each other through the daily challenges of teaching, the joy of seeing learners grow, and how their teamwork strengthens not just their marriage but their impact at school too.
What made the conversation extra special was their book, written straight from their teachers’ hearts. It’s more than just lessons on paper; it’s a reflection of their shared journey and the wisdom they’ve gained from years in education.
Their story reminded us that teaching isn’t just a job, it’s a calling, and sometimes, when two people share that calling, the results are nothing short of inspiring.

Ikageng 11 September – Ikageng Soccer League
That same day, the action moved to Ikageng Stadium, where Seiphemelo faced Potch Secondary.
The U17 match ended in a 0–0 draw.
The U19 game saw Seiphemelo take a strong 3–1 victory.
The atmosphere was electric, the talent undeniable, and the future of football in Ikageng looks brighter than ever. Our Eyes In The Field 8 September – The Waffle Spot
We kicked off the week on a delicious note at The Waffle Spot. From famous Belgian waffles with decadent toppings to savoury creations and milkshakes that look too good to drink, this little gem is quickly becoming a Potch favourite.
With free WiFi, it’s perfect for working while you indulge, or just catching up with friends. They’re also open for functions big and small, so yes, waffles can be the star of your next party. 8 September – Green Health with Prof. Lardus Erasmus
Our next stop took us into the world of wellness at Green Health, where we chatted with Prof. Lardus Erasmus about the Estrogen Metabolism & Detoxification Test. This cutting-edge test helps people struggling with:
Menopause fatigue and sleeplessness
Hormonal conditions like PCOS or endometriosis
Post-cancer recovery support
Severe teenage acne
Persistent fatigue despite “normal” blood results
The insight this test provides could be life-changing, helping people find balance and long-term health.
8 September – AJR Hyper – A Local Favourite
We wrapped up the day at AJR Hyper, Potch’s go-to for electronics, appliances, and furniture. Whether it’s a new washing machine, a comfy couch, or the latest tech gadget, AJR Hyper keeps it all under one roof. No wonder it’s been a first stop for locals for years.
Trading hours: Mon–Fri 9:00–17:00, Sat 9:00–13:30, Sun 10:00–13:30 10 September – PAWS Haven Visit
Later that day, we stopped by PAWS Haven and met a special four-legged friend waiting for his forever home. With big eyes and an even bigger heart, this pup reminded us of the unconditional love only animals can give.
PAWS Haven is more than just kennels ,it’s a sanctuary. Every adoption is a second chance, and who knows, maybe his best friend for life is reading this right now. 12 September – Execuspecs
Friday took us to not one but two Execuspecs practices at Mooirivier Junction and Die Bult. What makes them stand out?
Complimentary eye tests for children (ages 6–12)
Student packages
Cutting-edge tech like OCT scans & retinal exams
A huge variety of frames
On-site spectacle repairs
Execuspecs proves that eye care can be both accessible and high-tech, a real win for Potch.
12 September – Pick n Pay Weekly Trolley Dash
Of course, no Friday is complete without the excitement of the PnP Weekly Trolley Dash at Canal Crossing. Once again, shoppers raced against the clock, filling their trolleys in a frenzy of laughter, shouts, and cheers. It’s fast becoming a community tradition everyone looks forward to.

Looking Back at Week 37
Week 37 was all about balance, between work and play, giving back and celebrating, tradition and innovation. From waffles and wellness to rugby dreams and rescue dogs, Potchefstroom and Ikageng showed us their heart.
And here at The Go-To Guy, we’re privileged to keep capturing it all, week after week, story after story.
