We kicked off our week on a inspiring environmental note with a visit to a beloved local green space. Exciting new developments are officially unfolding behind the scenes at the Potchefstroom Bird Sanctuary, where a massive cleanup and restoration initiative is currently underway!

This vital project is being executed in close collaboration with dedicated conservation champions, most notably Klein Piet Conservation NPO. This passionate, community-driven non-profit organization is tirelessly committed to rescuing, rehabilitating, and protecting wildlife across South Africa, while simultaneously fostering environmental awareness and empowering local conservation heroes.

The ongoing "work in progress" aims to fully restore this precious ecosystem, transforming it once again into a safe haven for our bird and animal species, as well as a serene natural escape for our residents. July 15 – 17: Build-Up to the Biggest Club Rugby Derby of the Year!

From Wednesday through Friday, derby fever completely took over our sports coverage! Beyond the legendary school clashes, the clash between Potch Dorp Rugby Club and Klerksdorp Rugby Club stands as the single biggest, most fierce club rugby rivalry in the region.

The Go-To Guy headed out to the training grounds at De Leeukuil (Potch Dorp Rugby Pub) ahead of the big Saturday showdown to sit down for exclusive pre-match interviews:

  • Potch Dorp 2nd XV:  We spoke candidly with the 2nd team’s coach and captain about their physical preparations, tactical tweaks, and determination to set the tone for the afternoon.

  • Potch Dorp 1st XV:  We caught up with the 1st team’s leadership as they finalized their game plan for the main clash. The message from the camp was clear: the squad has put in the sweat, but retaining the derby trophy at home requires the roaring backing of a packed home crowd!

The Saturday Match-Day Program (18 July 2026 at De Leeukuil):

  • 14:00:

Potch Dorp 2 vs Klerksdorp Zambesi 2

  • 15:15 (Special Tunnel): Parents brought their young children along with their push-bikes ("skoppies") to form a special guard-of-honor tunnel for the 1st team run-out!

  • 15:30 (The Main Event):  Potch Dorp 1 vs Klerksdorp Zambesi 1

  • 17:30:  Springboks vs Wales broadcast live on the big screens!

  • Community Giving:  Entry was set at R20 per person, or free for those who brought donations (blankets for the seniors at Sonop Tehuis, or cat/dog food for PAWS Haven) to fill the Eastvaal Motors bakkie. With jumping castles, braai fires roaring, and cold refreshments flowing, it was a magnificent day where local pride met community heart!
