Residents across Klerksdorp and surrounding towns will soon be required to take charge of their own water and electricity meter readings , following the expiry of a key municipal service contract. The change, which takes effect from 1 November , comes after the City of Matlosana’s agreement with Mosekate Trading and Projects Company  concluded at the end of September. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations ⚙️ Background: End of a Service Contract The contract between Matlosana Municipality  and Mosekate Trading and Projects Company  began in 2021, assigning the company responsibility for reading meters across areas including Klerksdorp, Jouberton, Kanana, Orkney, and Stilfontein . Municipal officials confirmed that the contract officially expired on 30 September 2025 , and while a new service provider has not yet been appointed, all September readings , which form the basis of October billing , have already been captured. This means residents’ current accounts remain unaffected. However, from November onwards , residents will need to submit their own meter readings  directly to the municipality to ensure accurate billing. The change forms part of an interim arrangement until new systems or contracts are finalised. 📷 How the New Process Works Residents have been asked to follow a self-reporting process  to keep their accounts up to date. 1️⃣ Take a clear photo  of your meter between the 1st and 10th of each month . The image must display both the meter reading and a visible timestamp  (date and time). A free timestamp app can be downloaded from the Play Store to assist with this requirement. 2️⃣ Email the photo  to: billinggroup@klerksdorp.org  or meter-reading@klerksdorp.org . Include your account number  in the email subject line. If you do not have access to your electrical or water meter, you should mention this in your message. 3️⃣ Keep all photos stored  safely as proof in case of billing disputes or system errors . The municipality has confirmed that all validly submitted readings will be used for account processing. 💬 Reactions and Context Local residents have expressed a mix of understanding and concern. While many acknowledge the municipality’s transparency about the contract’s expiration, others have questioned whether all consumers, particularly those without regular internet access, will manage to submit their readings consistently. September and early October 2025 will be remembered as a month of resilience, teamwork, and international achievement. Global Stage Presence: Elroy Gelant and Douw Smit Fly the Flag The month began with Potchefstroom’s marathon maestro Elroy Gelant  taking on his first Marathon World Championship  on 15 September , marking his 10th global championship appearance . Although facing grueling heat, Gelant crossed the line 33rd in 2:16:32 , earning admiration for his determination and endurance. His coach, Jean Verster , handed him his official Team SA kit just days before departure, a moment of pride for both athlete and club. Meanwhile, Douw Smit  represented South Africa in Tokyo , competing in the javelin throw  at the World Championships  on 17 September . National Triumphs: Cross Country Success in Middelburg The ASA Cross Country Championships  in Middelburg  became a showcase of PTC dominance, led by a stellar line-up of both senior and junior athletes. The 2025 South African National Championships have officially wrapped up, and Klerksdorp School of Gymnastics (KSG) is heading home with medals, memories, and plenty to be proud of. Image: Klerksdorp School of Gymnastics Over 10 days of non-stop competition, our girls showed what hard work, heart, and top-tier coaching can achieve. 🥈 Day 3: Bars Brilliance Day 3 of WAG (Women’s Artistic Gymnastics) was a showcase of power and precision: 👏 Leante Pienaar 🥈2nd on Bars 🏅5th on Floor 👏 Chrizette Greyling 🥈2nd on Bars Two silver medals and elegant routines that wowed the judges, talk about raising the bar! 🌟 Day 4: A Big Finish for Level 4 Girls With over 90 gymnasts competing in the Level 4 (10 years) division on the final day, the pressure was high, but our girls rose to the occasion with grace and grit. 🏆 Milika Horn 🥉3rd Overall 🥇1st on Bars 🥇1st on Floor 🏅7th on Vault 🏅 Ilne Ernst 4th on Floor Personal bests were shattered, confidence soared, and the floor routines dazzled with poise and strength. 💙 A Championship to Remember From the first salute to the final dismount, KSG athletes gave their all.
