Both types greatly reduce injury risk in the event of impact . For extra security, Glasfit can apply anti-smash-and-grab security film to windows or doors. This clear adhesive film makes ordinary glass much harder to break through, deterring intruders (it’s the same concept used on bank windows). Safety Education: Dagbreek Learners Get Involved A highlight of the week was a safety talk at Laerskool Dagbreek , hosted by CPI alongside ER24 and the fire department. Learners enjoyed an interactive session on emergency awareness, fire safety, and first aid. The event not only educated children but also built trust between emergency responders and the next generation. Technology for Safer Streets The Yellow Dome AI Camera Project continues to roll out across Carletonville neighborhoods. On 4 September, Ryan Street residents gathered for a street meeting to learn how the system will enhance safety. The AI cameras are designed to provide: 24/7 recording without false alarms Direct links to the CPI control room Immediate response in emergencies Weekly street meetings will continue as more areas adopt this technology-driven approach to community safety. Community Spirit: Casual Day 2025 On 6 September, Carletonville joined the national Casual Day 2025 campaign under the theme “Go Beyond the Label.” Residents, schools, and businesses dressed up as different professions in Dynamic Blue , showing solidarity for inclusivity and respect. The initiative was a reminder that every person deserves to be seen for who they are, beyond stereotypes or labels. Emergency Numbers: Stay Prepared Residents are encouraged to store the latest Merafong emergency contact numbers in their phones and display them prominently at home. From SAPS patrols to ambulance services and fire brigade contacts, these numbers are critical in ensuring a fast response during any emergency. Merafong Emergency Contacts: Carletonville Police Station: 018 787 9315 / 6 / 7 SAPS Patrol Vehicles: 071 675 7349 / 071 675 7202 / 071 675 7195 / 071 675 7199 National SAPS Call Centre: 10111 (from landline and Cell C phones) Crime Stop (Tip-off Line): 08600 10111 24hr Medical Emergency & Snake Removal: 082 858 3081 Gauteng (State) Ambulance Service: 011 564 2210 CPI Security: 018 787 5096 ER24 Ambulance & Paramedics: 084 124 Gladiator Security: 018 788 4338 Ambulance & Paramedics: 018 788 2080 Fire Brigade Carletonville: 011 411 5121 or 107 Municipality After-Hours Emergencies: 011 010 1500 Any Emergency (from cellphone without airtime): 112 Ongoing Challenges: Power Cuts in Khutsong and Welverdiend Not all updates have been positive. The Frikkie Substation failure has once again left communities in Khutsong Extension 5, Elijah Barayi, and Welverdiend without power. With no clear communication from municipal leadership, frustration is growing. This ongoing instability highlights the urgent need for accountability and sustainable infrastructure investment in the region. Final thought Carletonville’s September so far has been a mixture of strong community resilience, technological innovation, and unfortunately, persistent infrastructure challenges. While safety teams and residents continue to step up against crime and emergencies, the demand for stronger leadership and reliable services remains clear. Together, through vigilance, community action, and innovative projects, Carletonville is taking steps to ensure a safer and stronger future. 🚨💙 #TheGoToGuy #CarletonvilleSafety #MerafongUpdates #CommunityAction #CPI #SAPS #CasualDay2025 #YellowDomeProject

- Sweet Sips and Smiles: Celebrating International Milkshake Day
A Sweet Tradition With a Story Few treats are as universally loved as the milkshake. Thick, creamy, and endlessly customisable, this classic drink has stood the test of time. The first milkshakes appeared in the late 19th century , originally made with whiskey and eggs as an energy tonic. By the early 1900s , the recipe shifted toward the sweeter versions we know today, with ice cream added in the 1920s thanks to the invention of the electric blender. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations Milkshakes became iconic in American diners during the 1940s and 1950s , a symbol of youthful fun and community spirit. Today, they are celebrated globally, with countless variations across cultures, from malted shakes to gourmet creations topped with whipped cream, syrups, and even candy. Fun Facts About Milkshakes The world’s largest milkshake was made in 2000 in New York, measuring over 6,000 liters . In some parts of the U.S., the term “frappe” is used instead of milkshake. The first electric blender , invented by Stephen Poplawski in 1922, revolutionised milkshake-making. In Australia, milkshakes are often referred to as “thickshakes” because of their extra-creamy consistency. In South Africa, milkshakes are often called “thickshakes” when they’re made extra creamy, and many local cafés put a unique twist on them with flavours like Bar-One, Peppermint Crisp, or Rooibos . Image: The Go-To Guy Creations What’s Your Favourite Flavour? Thinking about milkshakes naturally brings up the question: which flavour tops your list? Classic favourites like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry remain timeless, but the world of shakes has expanded to include so much more. Popular options today also include banana, peanut butter, coffee, cookies and cream, and caramel . Whether you enjoy the simple pleasure of vanilla or the indulgence of cookies and cream, International Milkshake Day is the perfect excuse to sip on your favourite, or even try a new one! Image: The Go-To Guy Creations Why We Celebrate International Milkshake Day is more than just a fun nod to a sweet treat. It’s about joy, nostalgia, and the little pleasures that bring communities together. Whether enjoyed at home, at a diner, or during a sunny walk in town, milkshakes continue to remind us of simple happiness in a busy world. So raise your glass (or tall cup) and toast to this creamy, dreamy creation.
1. Lewensdekking: Meer as Net ’n Polis, Dis ’n Liefdesdaad Die hartseer waarheid? Te veel mense dink lewensdekking is ’n luuksheid. Dis nie. Dis ’n noodsaaklikheid. - NWU Edge DUT in 1–0 Victory to Keep Playoff Hopes Alive
North-West University (NWU) kept their top-four ambitions on track with a narrow but crucial 1–0 away victory over Durban University of Technology (DUT) . The match, played at a lively Harry Gwala Stadium, saw NWU dominate possession and capitalize on defensive errors from the hosts, leaving DUT with yet another frustrating defeat. Image: NWU First-Half Action: Majoro Breaks the Deadlock The match began at a brisk pace, with both teams eager to make an early impression. While DUT initially held their ground, their defensive frailties soon became apparent. In the 33rd minute , DUT’s center-half made a costly mistake, allowing NWU forward Thapelo Letsholonyane to break into the box. His attempt was saved by DUT goalkeeper Samkelo Zulu , but the rebound fell kindly to Thabang Majoro , who slotted the ball home to give NWU the lead. The remainder of the half saw DUT pinned deep in their defensive third, struggling to escape NWU’s pressing game. Despite creating several half-chances, NWU could not extend their advantage before halftime. Halftime score: DUT 0–1 NWU. Second-Half Struggles: Missed Chances for NWU The second period mirrored much of the first. Both sides showed energy, but neither was able to take firm control of the game. DUT continued to struggle with turnovers and defensive errors, leaving gaps that NWU failed to fully exploit. Although NWU pressed hard, particularly through midfield anchor Aphelele Sibisi , their finishing let them down. Several opportunities in the goalmouth came to nothing, frustrating the traveling supporters who sensed a chance for a bigger margin of victory. In the end, DUT’s inability to build momentum combined with NWU’s wastefulness in front of goal meant the scoreline remained unchanged. Image: NWU Full-Time Result and Implications The final whistle confirmed a 1–0 win for NWU , with Thabang Majoro credited as the match’s only scorer. Aphelele Sibisi stood out with a commanding performance, earning the accolade of Player of the Match . For DUT, the defeat adds to a string of disappointing results, leaving their supporters with little to celebrate despite the electric atmosphere inside the Harry Gwala Stadium. Teams DUT: Samkelo Zulu, Mluleki Mdunge, Xolani Mkhonza (c), Sifundo Ngema, Nkululeko Nkosi, Manqoba Mlele, Phiwayinkosi Mchunu, Thalente Mkhize, Manqoba Shange, Iviwe Sodidi, Ndumiso Khali. NWU: Ethan Mokoena, Knowledge Muleya, Lucky Letwaba, Aphelele Sibisi, Lucas Seromo, Thapelo Letsholonyane, Thabang Majoro, Bokamoso Ramoshoane, Momelezi Mngati, Khumoetsile Van Schalkwyk, Reatlegile Kgosithebe. Image: NWU What It Means for the Playoff Race With the result, NWU take another step toward the semi-finals but must now wait for the final round of group fixtures to confirm their place. The top four race remains tight, with UJ and UFS already securing spots , while NWU, Wits, TUT, and Tuks continue to battle for the remaining two playoff positions. Every point counts in the closing stages of the campaign, and NWU’s slim victory may prove decisive in their push for knockout football. ⚽💙 #TheGoToGuy #NWUFootball #VarsityFootball #NWUvsDUT #PlayoffRace #StudentSport #Matlosana

- Planned Water Disruption Set for Ventersdorp Road Pump Station
Residents across Potchefstroom and surrounding areas are being urged to prepare for a scheduled water supply shutdown next week. The JB Marks Local Municipality has confirmed that the interruption will take place to facilitate critical infrastructure upgrades at one of the city’s key pump stations. With thousands of households and institutions set to be affected, the call to store sufficient water in advance has already gone out. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations Details of the Shutdown The planned interruption is scheduled for Monday, 15 September 2025 , running from 06:00 until 18:00 . The shutdown is linked to upgrades at the Ventersdorp Road Pump Station , which plays a pivotal role in supplying water to several suburbs and key facilities. Planned installations include: Two new pumps One new valve on the main supply line One new bulk water meter These upgrades are aimed at improving water distribution efficiency and strengthening infrastructure to reduce the risk of future breakdowns. Areas Affected The following suburbs, facilities, and reservoirs will experience the interruption: Promosa Mohadin Dassierand SANDF Base Witrand Hospital Kannoniers Park All Ikageng Extension Areas Eesterandjies Reservoirs For communities in these areas, the municipality has emphasized the importance of storing enough water beforehand for daily needs such as cooking, cleaning, and sanitation. Why the Upgrades Are Critical The installation of new pumps and a bulk water meter reflects growing demand in the city and the need to ensure the system can withstand pressure in both peak and emergency conditions. By investing in preventive maintenance, JB Marks Municipality aims to tackle recurring service delivery issues and restore confidence in its water supply infrastructure. However, while the improvements are long-term in nature, the short-term disruption will require residents to make adjustments and plan ahead for the 12-hour downtime. Final Thought As Potchefstroom braces for the upcoming water supply interruption, the message from municipal leaders is clear: short-term inconvenience will pave the way for long-term reliability. Residents are encouraged to store enough water, share updates with neighbors, and support vulnerable community members during the shutdown. The Ventersdorp Road Pump Station upgrade represents both a challenge and an opportunity, a moment where coordinated planning and transparent communication can ease the impact of necessary maintenance on the daily lives of residents. 💧🚱 #TheGoToGuy #WaterDisruption #JBMarks #Potchefstroom #Promosa #Mohadin #Ikageng #ServiceDelivery #InfrastructureUpgrades #CommunityPreparedness
- From Service Drives to Sewer Strains: A Week of Highs and Lows in Matlosana
Matlosana residents have witnessed a whirlwind of developments over the past week. From innovative community outreach to pressing infrastructure failures, the balance between progress and ongoing challenges has been clear. At the center of it all was the symbolic visit of a national political figure, drawing attention to the very local struggles shaping people’s daily lives. Image: DA Ward 39 Matlosana Community Service Delivery in Action The week began on a positive note with Spring Drives hosted in Turbocharged Service Delivery Gazebos . These mobile points brought officials and councillors closer to communities, giving residents direct access to support and services. The initiative set an optimistic tone and demonstrated how small but strategic actions can bridge the gap between government structures and the people they serve. Sewer and Water Pressures Continue While outreach efforts were welcomed, long-standing infrastructure issues once again surfaced. Persistent sewer oversights kept pressure on municipal leaders to act swiftly. Even more concerning was the situation in a local business district , where water taps ran dry for nearly six consecutive days . The disruption impacted businesses, workers, and households, underscoring the urgency of reliable service delivery. For many, the experience highlighted how lapses in accountability ripple through the economy, damaging livelihoods and public confidence alike. Image: DA Ward 39 Matlosana Spotlight on Leadership: A Visit with National Impact One of the week’s most defining moments came when DA Federal Leader John Steenhuisen visited Matlosana. His presence was both symbolic and practical, tying local struggles to the broader national picture of governance. During the visit, Steenhuisen attempted to inspect the Klerksdorp Waste Water Treatment Plant , the largest of its kind in the municipality. Despite being denied entry, he pressed forward with his oversight, citing the plant’s collapse as an urgent example of government failure. Waste Water Treatment Plant in Crisis The Klerksdorp Waste Water Treatment Plant has been left in disrepair due to years of neglect, poor workmanship, and insufficient maintenance. Recently, the site was vandalized by cable thieves , an incident that reportedly led to an armed confrontation with on-site security. The cost of repairing the facility is staggering. A May oversight visit by Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Sello Seitlholo, placed the figure at over R400 million to restore operations. To date, the municipality has yet to commit resources to such an undertaking, leaving the plant’s collapse to deepen its impact on water services, sanitation, and local economic stability. Image: DA Ward 39 Matlosana A Human Touch: Home Makeover in Tigane Despite the heavy concerns of infrastructure and service delivery, the week closed on a hopeful note. In Tigane , councillors and activists came together to transform the living conditions of one family in desperate need. What began as a structure “just a hole” was reshaped into a home with new flooring, fresh clothing, and household essentials . The initiative reflected the power of collective action and community solidarity. Yet, as volunteers noted, there are more families still in need , making donations and ongoing support vital to extend the reach of these interventions. Conclusion The past week in Matlosana captured the stark contrast between progress and persistent challenges. On one hand, service drives and community aid highlighted resilience and compassion. On the other, the crumbling wastewater plant and extended water shortages emphasized the urgent need for accountable governance and sustainable infrastructure investment. As residents juggle these realities, one truth remains constant: local struggles continue to shape broader conversations about South Africa’s future, reminding all stakeholders that service delivery is more than a promise, it is the foundation of daily life. 💧🏚️ #TheGoToGuy #MatlosanaUpdate #Klerksdorp #Tigane #Hartbeesfontein #WaterCrisis #ServiceDelivery #CommunitySupport #WasteWaterTreatment #LocalMatters

Dit gaan nie net oor die ernstige kant van dinge nie, dis ook ’n kans om te lag, memories te maak en sommer net lekker te wees. Soos hulle self sê: dis vir almal wat ’n hartklop vir seniors het.
