- Carletonville Faces Project Delays, Unpaid Accounts, and Unmarked Sinkhole
Last week in Carletonville, several pressing municipal challenges came under the spotlight. From stalled development projects to concerns over unpaid accounts and unresolved safety hazards, residents were once again left questioning the pace and effectiveness of local service delivery. Sinkhole Still Unmarked In addition to financial and developmental setbacks, Carletonville continues to grapple with geotechnical risks. A sinkhole discovered in July near the Carletonville Sports Complex remains unaddressed. Although funds have been allocated for sinkhole repairs following the municipality’s disaster declaration, the site still lies open. By last week, what little barrier tape had once marked the danger had fallen to the ground, leaving the several-metre-deep cavity unprotected. With no warning structures in place, the unmarked sinkhole poses a serious risk to residents in the vicinity. Unpaid Municipal Accounts Raise Concerns Another issue drawing attention in Carletonville last week was the handling of municipal accounts by the Merafong City Local Municipality. Residents raised concerns after learning that certain households have accumulated massive arrears without enforcement action being taken. Examples include one account reportedly exceeding R253,000 and another in Khutsong standing at nearly R193,000 . These revelations raised questions of fairness, particularly for ratepayers who continue to meet their obligations while others remain in default. The situation comes at a time when the municipality itself struggles with overdue payments to service providers, including Eskom. Kokosi Project Stalls The much-anticipated Kokosi Market Square development remains incomplete, despite repeated assurances that it would become a central hub for small business activity. Initially launched in October 2023 with support from Harmony Gold and various government departments, the project was expected to provide container stalls for traders along A Lembede Drive. Nearly two years later, visible progress has been limited. Since May, the only noticeable work on site has been the closure of a stormwater ditch. No container stalls have been placed, and construction appears far from finished. Reports indicate that unpaid contractors are at the heart of the delay, leaving the project, and the local economic opportunities it promised, at a standstill. A Week of Mounting Pressure The events of the past week highlight mounting pressure on the Merafong City Local Municipality. Development plans remain stalled, financial management is under scrutiny, and critical safety interventions have yet to materialise. For residents of Carletonville and surrounding areas, these issues underscore the challenges of living in a community where essential projects and responsibilities are frequently delayed or neglected. 🚧 📉 ⚠️ 🛡️ #TheGoToGuy #Carletonville #ServiceDelivery #LocalEconomy #MunicipalChallenges #CommunitySafety
- A Compact Sedan That Delivers Value and Safety
The Suzuki Dzire quietly shakes up the compact-sedan scene with smart pricing and an impressive feature set, particularly in its South African form. Positioned as an affordable yet well-equipped option, the Dzire aims to appeal to those wanting solid everyday usability without sacrificing safety or amenities. Peeling Back the Layers: Price, Trims, and Scope The 2025 Suzuki Dzire kicks off at R224 900 for the base 1.2 GA manual model, including a 4-year/60 000 km service plan and a 5-year or 200 000 km warranty . Stepping up, the GL+ manual costs around R246 900 , while the GL+ CVT automatic variant is priced near R266 900 . These price brackets make the Dzire a standout in its class, delivering premium touches at mid-budget fares. Trim-level differences are meaningful: the GL+ variants add a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto , a reverse-view camera , and cruise control , whereas the base GA offers essentials like daytime running lights, manual aircon, cloth seating, and 14-inch steel wheels with caps. Under the Hood and Behind the Wheel Powering the Dzire is a 1.2-litre petrol engine, not overly sporty, but suitably efficient for daily driving. Fuel consumption clocks in at about 4.4 L/100 km for both manual variants, while the CVT uses a hair more at 4.5 L/100 km . Standard across the board are fore and aft park distance sensors , a height-adjustable driver’s seat , and, notably, six airbags , boosting the Dzire’s safety credentials considerably. Safety That’s More Than Skin-Deep Speaking of safety, the Dzire has made headlines back in India by becoming the first sedan to earn a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating , underscoring its structural integrity and protective design. To put it mildly, that’s a big win, especially for the Indian market where safety has often lagged behind competitors. Standard defensive systems like ESC (Electronic Stability Control) , ISOFIX anchors , hill-hold assist , and ABS with EBD bolster its safety story even further, though some of these features may vary by market Practical Details That Matter The Dzire's compact sedan footprint, measuring roughly 3995 mm in length, 1735 mm in width , with a wheelbase of 2450 mm and ground clearance of around 163 mm , strikes a good balance between city agility and cabin space. Add in a boot capacity of around 382 litres , and you get a ride that’s practical for daily errands and weekend getaways alike. 📍 Penta Suzuki Potchefstroom 27 Nelson Mandela Dr, Potchefstroom, 2520 📞 0860 008 575 Webbie Link: https://www.thegotoguy.co.za/potchefstroom/penta-suzuki Final Thoughts from the Road The Suzuki Dzire punches well above its financial tier. Whether used in the city or on provincial roads, the Dzire delivers a compelling mix of reassurance and practicality that’s not easy to dismiss. #TheGoToGuy #potchefstroom #PentaSuzukiPotchefstroom #SuzukiDzire #CompactSedan #ValueRide #SafetyFirst #SmartChoice 🚗

- First Pedal Cup Set for Potchefstroom - 4 October
Local Event for Young Riders Potchefstroom’s very own First Pedal is hosting the First Pedal Cup on Saturday, 4 October 2025, at Ferdinand Postma High School. The event is tailored for children aged 2 to 6 years, with the day beginning bright and early at 07:30 for 08:00. About the Cup This home-grown balance bike event is designed to give toddlers the chance to race without pedals or pressure. The focus is on fun, confidence-building, and coordination. Riders will take part in age-appropriate heats, cheered on by parents and supporters, and every participant receives a medal. The idea is simple: create a safe, energetic space where young children can discover the joy of cycling. Or as locals might put it, “start them off on two wheels before they can even reach the biscuit tin on the counter.” Registration and Entry Fee Entries cost R220 per child, and registration closes on 12 September 2025. Kids must bring their own balance bikes and helmets, no helmet, no ride. Staying Connected The organisers are keeping things easy to follow with updates online: Website: First Pedal Facebook: First Peda l Tickets: Buy Tickets Telephone: 082-838-0019 E-mail: info@firstpedal.co.za Photos and videos from the day will also be shared on social media, so families should bring plenty of energy, and maybe practise smiling through the dust. First Pedal is clear that while every effort will be made to ensure a safe and smooth day, they can’t take responsibility for accidents. Parents may want to keep a few plasters handy, just in case the road rash beats the race.

Volledige lys van gasvroue: Tafel 1: Carolien Sutherland Tafel 2: Catherine Venter Tafel 3: Marna van Schalkwyk Tafel 4: Patsy Fourie Tafel 5: Hannele Phillipson Tafel 6: Amanda Scholtz Tafel 7: Janet Yssel Tafel 8: Renzo Henning Tafel 9: Deonie Nortje Tafel 10: Santie Steyn Tafel 11: Yolandie Vorster Tafel 12: Suzette du Plessis Tafel 13: Leatitia de Lange Tafel 14: Alodi Hugo Tafel 15: Philda Redelinghuys Tafel 16: Michelle Viljoen Tafel 17: Madelein vd Merwe Tafel 18: Marina Heathcote Tafel 19: Esther Dalton Tafel 20: Ronell du Toit Tafel 21: Elizna Jacobs Tafel 22: Saretha Oberholzer Tafel 23: Suzette Steinmann Tafel 24: Joekie Goss Tafel 25 (Gas-tafel): Mariëtte Nortje Hierdie opstelling het beteken elke groepie het ’n eie flair gehad, ’n lekker mengsel van Potch se eie karakters.

Braai Facilities: In true South African style, Landbou offers braai facilities (barbecue areas) that are a big hit with members . There’s nothing quite like firing up a braai after a Saturday game – throw some chops and wors on the grill, crack open a drink, and enjoy the afternoon with your golf buddies. This braai culture at Landbou adds a special touch of camaraderie and community spirit . It turns the club into more than just a sports venue; it becomes a social hangout where families and friends gather, especially during weekend socials or club-sponsored braai days. Event & Function Venue: The club’s facilities aren’t limited to everyday golf, they also include a versatile event venue. The spacious clubhouse and beautiful outdoor areas can accommodate all sorts of functions, from birthday parties and anniversaries to year-end office braais . If you’re a member, this can be a convenient (and cost-effective) option for hosting events in a familiar, scenic setting. The Landbou team is known to be hands-on and happy to help with planning and setup, ensuring your event runs smoothly . It’s a nice perk to have your own club as the go-to spot for celebrations, and your guests will definitely enjoy the relaxed, picturesque environment . In short, a Landbou membership grants you access to top-notch facilities that cover all the bases: good golf, good food, and good times. From the moment you step into the clubhouse, you’ll feel the comforts, and probably smell something tasty on the grill too! Events and Activities 🎉 Another aspect that adds tremendous value to a Landbou Golf Club membership is the lineup of events and activities . There’s always something happening at Landbou, keeping the calendar exciting for members: Regular Golf Tournaments: Landbou hosts frequent club competitions, leagues, and fun tournaments. These range from serious handicap tournaments to lighthearted scrambles and novelty events. As a member, you’ll get to participate in these regular tournaments that add friendly competition and excitement to your golfing life . It’s not just about winning, it’s about the stories and laughs afterwards, and the way these events build camaraderie. Many members say these tourneys are a highlight of their membership, giving everyone something to look forward to each month. Social Events & Theme Days: Beyond golf, the club organizes social gatherings that might include live music nights, quiz evenings, or themed dress-up golf days. And let’s not forget the impromptu gatherings, often, a Saturday afternoon braai becomes an event of its own . Regular events and activities bring people together at Landbou , ensuring there’s a strong community vibe year-round. For example, a summer braai day at the club might see families picnicking by the course, kids playing, and non-golfers joining the fun, all of which make membership feel inclusive and family-friendly. Community and Charity Events: Because Landbou Golf Club is a local Potchefstroom gem, it often gets involved in community causes. Members sometimes band together for charity golf days or to support local events (like a fundraiser or community tournament). Being a member gives you the chance to contribute and participate, adding extra meaning to your rounds. It’s a great feeling when your weekend hobby also helps out a good cause in town. Private Functions: As mentioned, members can take advantage of the club’s facilities for personal events. The fact that Landbou can host anything from a birthday bash to a corporate golf day means your membership network can extend into your work and family life. There’s a special pride in inviting friends or colleagues to your club for an event, you get to show off the place and maybe even sneak in a round of golf as part of the festivities! With the staff’s professional support, events at Landbou are memorable for all the right reasons . Overall, the steady stream of events ensures membership never gets boring . There’s always a new tournament on the horizon or a social on the calendar. This keeps members engaged and connected, turning the club into a year-round source of entertainment and friendship, not just a place you go to play golf. General Atmosphere and Camaraderie 💛 Perhaps the hardest value to quantify – but the most important, is the general atmosphere at Landbou Golf Club. From day one, you’ll notice the ambiance is friendly, relaxed, and proudly local . The club prides itself on being a welcoming “home base” for Potchefstroom golfers, and it has stayed true to that feel since 1988 . There’s no stuffy elitism here; whether you’re a scratch golfer or a total newbie, the vibe is inclusive and supportive. The camaraderie among members is often the #1 reason people decide to stay with Landbou year after year. Walk into the clubhouse on any given day and you’ll likely see a mix of folks, old-timers sharing stories, university students or young professionals getting in a quick round, and families enjoying a meal together. Everyone mingles comfortably. The staff and long-time members go out of their way to learn your name and make you feel part of the family. This warm atmosphere is repeatedly noted by visitors: the clubhouse “exudes warmth and friendliness,” making it an ideal place to relax and catch up with friends after a game . It’s the kind of place where you might come for the golf but end up staying for the great company. Landbou’s status as a “beloved institution in Potchefstroom” isn’t just about the sport, it’s about community. Members often say they value the club as a social outlet just as much as a golfing one. You’ll forge friendships here, meet golf buddies for life, and likely get roped into a few post-game drink-ups or Sunday braais along the way (which, let’s be honest, are some of the best moments!). The general atmosphere is one of laid-back fun. You can be competitive on the course, but once the round is over, it’s all high-fives, handshakes, and planning the next round. In essence, Landbou Golf Club’s atmosphere reminds you why club golf can be so rewarding: it gives you a sense of belonging. It’s hard to put a price on that. When you’re a member here, you’re not just paying for golf; you’re investing in a community and a lifestyle of leisure, sports, and camaraderie . Conclusion – So, Is It Worth It? 🤔 After breaking down all the perks and features, is a Landbou Golf Club membership worth it? For most Potchefstroom golf lovers, the answer is a resounding yes ! The value of membership shines through in multiple ways: you get all-week access to a quality course, a welcoming clubhouse with great food and facilities, a calendar full of fun events, and above all, a built-in community of friends. It’s the kind of place where whether you’re looking for a place to play, a space to celebrate, or just somewhere to relax with friends, Landbou Golf Club has it all . Of course, any membership comes with fees, and it’s important to consider how often you’ll use it. But if you’re someone who golfs regularly or enjoys the social scene around the sport, Landbou offers fantastic bang for your buck. You’ll quickly find that the experiences, the Saturday morning rounds, the 19th-hole laughs, the braai gatherings, the new friendships, f ar outweigh the costs . In a town like Potch, having a go-to spot for golf and good times is a treasure. Landbou Golf Club has been that treasure for decades, and it continues to uphold a tradition of hospitality and community spirit. So, if you’re on the fence about joining, come out for a visit. Bottom line: a membership at Landbou Golf Club isn’t just about playing golf, it’s about joining a family of golf enthusiasts who know how to work hard on their swing, and even harder on their braai tongs and friendship. If that sounds like your kind of Potch Life, then yes, a Landbou membership is absolutely worth it. - The Benefits of a Personalised Meal Plan
A Smarter Approach to Health and Nutrition When it comes to achieving health and fitness goals, one size rarely fits all. Diet trends come and go, and while they may work temporarily for some, many people find themselves frustrated, hungry, and ultimately back where they started. That’s where a personalised meal plan comes in. Rather than following a generic template, this approach tailors your nutrition to your specific needs, preferences, and lifestyle, making healthy eating both practical and sustainable. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations Tailored to Your Unique Goals The greatest advantage of a personalised meal plan is that it’s designed with you in mind. Whether your goal is to lose weight, gain lean muscle, manage a medical condition, or simply feel more energised, your plan can be adjusted to support those outcomes. A well-crafted plan takes into account your age, activity level, and metabolism, ensuring you’re not over- or under-eating. Instead of guessing or hoping a diet will work, you’ll have a clear roadmap built for your success. Portion Control Made Simple For many people, portion sizes are the biggest stumbling block to healthy eating. A personalised meal plan removes the guesswork by outlining exactly what and how much to eat. This helps regulate calorie intake without leaving you hungry or deprived. Over time, portion control becomes a habit, teaching you to listen to your body’s hunger cues and make smarter choices, even outside of the plan. Building Long-Term Healthy Habits Quick-fix diets may deliver short-term results, but they rarely set you up for lasting change. A personalised plan focuses on foods you actually enjoy, which makes it easier to stick with over time. By incorporating balance rather than restriction, it encourages a healthier relationship with food. Instead of feeling like you’re constantly “on a diet,” you begin to see food as fuel, something that supports your wellbeing rather than something to fear or control. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations Saving Time and Reducing Stress Another benefit of a personalised plan is structure. Many people struggle with daily decisions about what to eat, leading to last-minute unhealthy choices. A set plan removes the stress by providing clear guidelines and even shopping lists. This can save valuable time in the kitchen and make meal prep more efficient. For busy schedules, having a plan also ensures that convenience never comes at the cost of nutrition. Accountability and Progress Tracking Pairing a meal plan with weekly weigh-ins and measurements adds a layer of accountability that keeps motivation high. Seeing progress, whether in centimeters lost, energy gained, or fitness improvements, helps reinforce your commitment. This guidance and support can make all the difference between giving up after a few weeks and building results that last. More Than Just Weight Loss While many people seek out a meal plan for weight loss, the benefits go much deeper. Improved digestion, reduced bloating, better energy levels, and clearer skin are often side effects of nourishing your body with the right foods. It’s about creating balance and supporting your body in every way. Final Thoughts A personalised meal plan is more than a diet, it’s a lifestyle tool. By combining structure, accountability, and flexibility, it gives you the support needed to achieve your goals while teaching you lasting habits for health and wellbeing. At Potch Diet Clinic & Beauty Salon, personalised nutrition is part of a holistic approach that works hand in hand with treatments like EMSculpt, FIR Blanket, and Pressotherapy. Together, these strategies create a pathway to not only look your best but feel your best, stronger, healthier, and more confident. Their support highlighted the Army’s commitment to nurturing excellence at every rank, reinforcing the ethos that achievement in uniform is both recognised and rewarded. A Cultural Celebration The ceremony was more than medals and speeches. Zulu traditional dancers from 121 South African Infantry Battalion in Mtubatuba ignited the hall with rhythm and pride, their performance adding cultural vibrance to the evening. Fun Fact: Treats from the Heart Paws Haven isn’t just about shelter and medical care, sometimes it’s about joy, too. How the Community Can Help Paws Haven’s mission is a shared responsibility. The community plays a vital role in ensuring the shelter’s sustainability and in helping more animals find their happy endings. Here’s how you can get involved: Adoption: Give a pet a second chance at life by adopting. Every adoption frees space for another rescue animal in need. (Terms and conditions apply.) Fostering: Provide a temporary, loving home for animals while they await adoption. This helps reduce shelter stress and gives pets valuable socialization. (Terms and conditions apply.) Volunteering: From walking dogs to helping with events and admin support, volunteers are the lifeline that helps the Paws Haven team extend their impact. It Takes a Team to Make a Haven The work of Ian, Lloyd, Charlene, Sam, Daniel, Chief, Michelle, Aggie, Dr Mabote, Dr Gerber, and AHT Barbie demonstrates that caring for animals is not just a job but a calling. Together, they embody the belief that every paw matters. For anyone looking to make a difference, supporting Paws Haven through adoption, fostering, volunteering, or even donating treats, is more than an act of kindness, it’s a step toward building a community where love and care truly define the future of every animal. 🐾 🏡 🐶🐱 🤝 💛 #TheGoToGuy #potchefstroom #PawsHaven #AdoptDontShop #FurryFriends #TeamworkForPaws #RescueLove
- NWU Fall Short in Playoff Clash as Tuks Clinch 2–1 Victory
North-West University (NWU) bowed out of the 2025 Varsity Women’s Football tournament after a narrow 2–1 defeat to the University of Pretoria (UP-Tuks) in their playoff encounter. It was a tightly contested match that showcased moments of brilliance, but ultimately Tuks’ sharper finishing made the difference. Image: NWU Early Blow for NWU The game couldn’t have started worse for NWU, as Wendy Shongwe capitalised on poor marking to fire Tuks ahead in just the 7th minute. Despite conceding early, the Eagles regrouped quickly and pushed forward, creating half-chances of their own. The first half remained balanced, with both sides battling hard in midfield. NWU kept Tuks under pressure in short spells but couldn’t find a way through before the interval. At halftime, the hosts still held a slender 1–0 lead. Eagles Fight Back NWU returned from the break with renewed determination, and their persistence was rewarded when Naledi Mooketsi levelled the score. Her strike gave the Eagles hope of turning the game around, and for a moment, the momentum appeared to be shifting. But just minutes later, Tuks reclaimed control. In the 64th minute, Mmakhgotso Rose Mashishi rose highest to meet a corner, heading home what proved to be the match-winning goal. Image: NWU Late Drama NWU didn’t go down without a fight. They pressed hard in the closing stages, winning a series of corners and fashioning a clear chance inside the box. Tuks goalkeeper Grace Mabo pulled off a crucial save to deny Mamie Rebombo , ensuring her side held onto the lead. Despite their efforts, NWU couldn’t find another equaliser and were left to reflect on what might have been. - Walking in Purple: NWU’s Bold Step to Support Students in Need
The North-West University (NWU) recently hosted its annual Purple Walk , a vibrant event that united staff, students, and alumni across its three campuses in support of learners facing financial difficulties. Held on Friday, 5 September, the initiative formed part of NWU Giving Week , a campaign dedicated to fostering generosity and hope while strengthening the institution’s commitment to student success. Image: NWU A Week of Giving and Community Spirit Running from 1 to 6 September, Giving Week was designed to highlight the power of collective action and compassion. Each day carried the central theme of creating pathways for students to overcome financial barriers and pursue their academic goals. The Purple Walk, held mid-week, became the highlight of the initiative by visually demonstrating solidarity: campuses were transformed into seas of purple as participants donned NWU regalia and walked side by side. Image: NWU The walk itself spanned approximately three kilometres on each campus. While light in distance, its symbolic weight was heavy, representing the steps taken toward ensuring brighter futures for students. The event also served as a fundraising platform for the We Care Bursary Fund and the Student Debt Relief Initiative , which had already achieved 56% of its ambitious R250,000 target by the time of reporting. Voices of Support from Leadership Several university leaders took to the podium to underscore the significance of the Purple Walk. Thato Lehutso , director of IT Services and acting campus chief director at Vanderbijlpark, reminded participants that every contribution makes a tangible difference: “Every rand goes directly towards ensuring that students can progress and complete what they have started.” Prof Bismark Tyobeka , principal and vice-chancellor of NWU, framed the campaign as part of the institution’s identity: “Giving Week reflects the essence of who we are as a university: committed, united, and generous. Together, let us turn giving into a legacy of hope for our students, our communities, and the future we are building.” Prof Sonia Swanepoel , deputy vice-chancellor for student life, transformation, people and culture and representative of the Mahikeng Campus, emphasised the power of unity in driving transformation: “Today’s walk is more than just three kilometres. It is a bold step for every student who has the talent, the drive, and the potential, but who is held back by financial barriers.” Their messages collectively framed the Purple Walk not just as a symbolic show of pride, but as a catalyst for meaningful change. Image: NWU The Impact of the Purple Walk Beyond the colourful visuals of purple-clad walkers, the event carried measurable outcomes. With over half of the fundraising target already met, the campaign is contributing to financial relief for students who might otherwise face interruptions in their studies. Funds raised will directly assist with bursaries and debt alleviation, ensuring students can remain focused on their academic pursuits. Image: NWU The walk also reinforced the university’s culture of compassion. By involving staff, students, and alumni, the event showcased a broad-based commitment to uplifting learners and demonstrated how shared responsibility can bridge gaps in access to education. Image: NWU Building Bridges of Hope The NWU Purple Walk represents more than a single day’s event. It embodies the university’s broader mission of empowering students through collective generosity and community engagement. By combining symbolic action with practical fundraising, NWU is working to ensure that financial obstacles do not stand in the way of potential. The sight of campuses awash in purple may fade with time, but the impact of the walk, measured in bursaries awarded, debt relieved, and opportunities unlocked, will continue shaping lives long after Giving Week has concluded. 💜🎓🤝🚶♂️🚶♀️ #TheGoToGuy #potchefstroom #NWUPurpleWalk #StudentsFirst #GivingWeek #HopeInAction #TogetherWeRise
- Road Restored, Borehole Drilled, and Blockages Cleared: JB Marks Service Delivery Update
Municipal service delivery in JB Marks has once again come under the spotlight with a progress report released over the weekend. The update highlights completed roadwork, water sustainability projects, and sanitation interventions, while also flagging critical challenges and missing departmental reports. Image: JB Marks Roadworks: Full Restoration on Walter Sisulu Street One of the most visible achievements came from the Roads and Stormwater Unit, which completed a full restoration of Walter Sisulu Street between the Absa branch and PG Glass. The project included not only road resurfacing but also rehabilitation of parking areas previously affected by trenching from water and sanitation works. The team also identified and secured a sinking hole during operations, immediately reporting the hazard for specialist intervention. Safety barriers remain in place as materials for permanent repairs are awaited. According to municipal impact metrics, 1.2 kilometers of road were fully restored in this project alone. Water Services: Borehole Installation in Matlwang Village In the rural areas, attention turned to long-term water supply solutions. A borehole was successfully installed in Matlwang Village, marking a step toward sustainable water access. The initiative is presented as part of a broader strategy to reduce reliance on limited municipal water infrastructure. Officials framed the project as more than just drilling, but as an effort to create “water independence” for the community. Borehole operations are set to continue, ensuring residents have a reliable alternative source. Sanitation: Clearing Blockages Across Critical Facilities The sanitation teams worked extensively to ensure public health facilities and community spaces remained operational. Boiki Tlhapi Clinic: Mainline unblocked to prevent disruptions to healthcare services. Promosa Stadium: Blockage cleared to avoid potential sanitation hazards during public events. Sonderwater, Promosa, and Other Areas: Additional blockages addressed with the assistance of jetting machines and manual teams. In total, seven sewage blockages were reported cleared across different neighbourhoods. Supervisors emphasised that these efforts were directly linked to preventing health risks and ensuring that clinics, homes, and stadiums could function without sanitation interruptions. Yellow Fleet: Clarification Needed The report also noted an accountability concern involving the Yellow Fleet operations in Ward 1, Sarafina. While feedback was received, the information lacked details about dumping sites cleared and streets graded. The municipality stated that precision in reporting is essential for both recognition of work done and accurate tracking of service delivery. Critical Incident: Sink Hole Response The sink hole on Walter Sisulu Street was highlighted as the most urgent incident of the week. While immediate safety precautions were taken, including securing the site and engaging the Water and Sanitation Unit for inspection, permanent repairs remain pending due to material shortages. The incident underscores ongoing supply chain challenges affecting timely resolution of infrastructure hazards. Missing Departmental Reports Despite the progress, the weekend report flagged multiple departments for failing to submit updates. These included: Road Marking Team – No updates on line markings, signage, or pedestrian crossings, raising public safety concerns. Parks & Recreation – Absence of maintenance reports on grass cutting, playground repairs, and sports facilities. Electricity Department – No confirmation of fault repairs, new connections, or streetlight servicing. Urban Water & Sanitation Teams – No updates on pipe repairs, meter installations, or sewage maintenance in town areas. The lack of reporting was described as a major gap, as it makes the work of these teams “invisible” to both management and the public. This Service Delivery Impact Roads: 1.2 km fully resurfaced Water: 1 borehole installed in Matlwang Village Sanitation: 7 blockages cleared in critical areas Safety: 1 major hazard identified and contained The update also emphasized the behind-the-scenes dedication of municipal workers, from late-night equipment preparations to early-morning safety briefings. Community Notices Residents were advised that Walter Sisulu Street is open, with safety measures around the sinking hole still in place. Borehole work in Matlwang Village will continue into the following day. Supply shortages are being addressed as a priority. The municipality also reminded residents of contact numbers to report issues: Water/Sewage: 082 381 0888 Roads/Paving: 018 293 1111 Disaster Management: 078 803 1570 Electricity: 082 385 1888 Building Trust Through Visible Action The weekend report paints a mixed picture of municipal service delivery. While certain units demonstrated clear progress and swift responses, gaps remain in reporting and supply chain readiness. For residents, the restored Walter Sisulu Street, new borehole in Matlwang Village, and cleared sanitation blockages offer visible improvements. Yet, the absence of updates from several departments leaves unanswered questions about broader municipal performance. 🚧 🛠️ 💧 🛣️ #TheGoToGuy #potchefstroom #JBMarks #Servicedelivery #CommunityProgress
