- Eagles Take Flight with Home Victory Over Maties
The NWU Eagles netball team delivered a memorable performance in front of a passionate home crowd at the Mahikeng Great Hall on Monday, September 1, 2025. From the moment the purple wave of supporters filled the stands, the atmosphere was electric, and the Eagles rose to the occasion with a convincing 55–41 triumph over the visiting Maties. The result not only lifted spirits on campus but also secured NWU’s position in the top three of the Varsity Netball log. Image: NWU Early Battle for Control The match opened with a tense first quarter as both sides tested each other’s resolve. Physicality dominated the early exchanges, with defenders making their presence felt. The Eagles, however, showed composure in the goal circle, finding their rhythm to edge ahead 13–9 by the first break. This foundation allowed the team to build confidence while keeping Maties under pressure. Halftime Nerves and Momentum Shifts The second quarter proved less polished for the Eagles. Sloppy passing and missed opportunities allowed Maties back into contention. With the visitors improving their defensive structures, the energy in the hall wavered, and NWU struggled to convert their dominance into scoreboard distance. Even so, the Eagles carried a 22–16 lead into halftime, a cushion that hinted at their ability to steady themselves when it mattered. Turning Point in the Third Quarter After regrouping at the break, NWU returned with renewed determination. Their attacking play tightened, and the defensive unit closed down Maties’ shooting options effectively. The Eagles’ ability to transition quickly into attack paid dividends, and they outscored their opponents decisively. By the end of the third quarter, the scoreboard reflected a healthy 41–29 advantage, a margin that gave the home side breathing space heading into the final stretch. Finishing with Confidence The last 15 minutes highlighted the Eagles’ resilience and discipline. Maties attempted a late push, capitalizing on moments of hesitation, but the Eagles refused to buckle under pressure. Driven by the roar of their supporters, NWU extended their lead and sealed a 55–41 victory. Player of the Match, Vivian Venancio, was instrumental in the circle, providing stability and clinical finishing that kept her team ahead throughout. - StoormCares: Jana Steyn ’n Lewende Wonderwerk

- Women in Law Enforcement Lead Successful Roadblock Operation on the N12
A large-scale law enforcement operation was recently conducted on the N12 border between Gauteng and the North West Province . - Health Initiatives Strengthen Community Engagement in JB Marks and Steve Tshwete
Health facilities across the district have recently been engaging communities through open days and special programmes designed to improve access to care, strengthen awareness, and foster partnerships. From youth-friendly services to broader facility showcases and women-centered gatherings, these initiatives are reinforcing the message of prevention, support, and collective responsibility for healthier communities. Youth and Adolescent Health in Focus The Steve Tshwete Clinic hosted an Open Day with a strong emphasis on teenagers and adolescents . The event sought to reassure young people about the services available to them and highlight the Department of Health’s Adolescent and Youth Friendly Services (AYFS) . AYFS are available at various health institutions during weekday afternoons, providing young people with easy access to confidential health advice, testing, and treatment. The day included aerobics sessions , healthy lifestyle promotion , and health education talks on different topics relevant to youth. The initiative was made possible through collaboration between multiple stakeholders, including the Clinic Committee, Ward Councillor, Love Life, Shout It Now, and Community Health Workers. Collectively, they emphasized the importance of young people accessing care without fear or stigma. Potch Town Clinic Opens Its Doors At the same time, the Potch Town Clinic in the JB Marks Sub District opened its facility to the community through an Open Day engagement. Residents were given the opportunity to explore the clinic’s services, ranging from primary health care and mental health and wellness to testing and screening programmes . This engagement was not only informative but also interactive, as community members were invited to comment on the services, offer suggestions, and provide compliments. Such feedback ensures that services remain people-centred and responsive to community needs. Women’s Month Concludes with Unity in Health In another initiative, officials in the JB Marks Sub District came together to conclude Women’s Month with a gathering of women in health services. The event celebrated solidarity, shared goals, and a renewed commitment to quality service delivery. It also provided an important space for colleagues to boost morale, strengthen teamwork, and lift each other’s spirits. The message to residents remained clear: get tested, start treatment, and stay on treatment . Officials reminded communities to be on the lookout for Outreach Services Teams , who continue to bring testing and care closer to people’s homes. Final Thoughts These health initiatives reflect the broader mission of building strong, informed, and supported communities. Whether through youth engagement, community open days, or solidarity events for women, the emphasis remains on access, education, and empowerment.
