The North-West University’s School of Music is hosting a recital featuring flautist Cobus du Toit and pianist Tinus Botha. The performance takes place on Sunday, 26 July 2026, at the Conservatory, located at 62 Thabo Mbeki Way.
Both musicians are well-established in the classical music circuit, and their collaborative programme brings together works from the past century.

From Classic French Works to Modern Beats
The afternoon programme is structured to showcase different eras and styles for the flute and piano.
Philippe Gaubert’s Fantaisie: The recital opens with this traditional French piece, known for its flowing, lyrical qualities.
Iain Clarke’s The Great Train Race: This solo flute piece is a change of pace, requiring the performer to use extended techniques to mimic the sounds and rhythms of a steam train.
Eldin Burton’s Sonatine: A mid-twentieth-century work that offers a lighter, melodic structure.
Gareth McLearnon’s Saudade: Written in 2026 and dedicated specifically to Du Toit, this piece is performed on the alto flute and is described by the composer as a "bittersweet little number".
César Franck’s Sonata in A major: The recital ends with a flute transcription of this famous Romantic masterpiece, written with a demanding piano part and a sweeping structure.
