Outdoor Activities on the Vaal River

The upcoming Momentum Aardklop programme includes a variety of outdoor and lifestyle tracks hosted at Elgro River Lodge. Situated along the Vaal River, the venue offers several family-friendly activities ranging from river sports to land-based wildlife excursions.
Fishing for Yellowfish
The lodge provides access to roughly 20 km of river water, serving as a notable spot for targeting both largemouth and smallmouth yellowfish. Anglers can opt for standard bank access or the "Float and Fly" package, which pairs fly fishing with a guided rafting trip down the river.
Day fees are structured as follows:
Rod Fee: R150
Boat Fee: R475 (includes the rod fee for one guest)
Launch Fee: R200
Windknot Member Day Fee: R100
Guided Game Drives
For those preferring land-based outings, guided game drives run between 90 minutes and two hours. The routes traverse local mountain paths and open veld, ending at a hilltop viewpoint. The private property hosts several game species, including giraffe, zebra, black wildebeest, red hartebeest, kudu, waterbuck, blesbok, eland, impala, nyala and ostrich.
Residents: R275 per person
Non-residents: R225 per person
Booking requirement: Minimum of four people per trip
Hiking Trails
Two designated walking routes are available through the private game camp. These trails are designed for self-guided walking, allowing visitors to view the local landscape and resident wildlife at their own pace.
Trail Fee: R50 per person
River Rafting
The river section accommodates rafting trips led by on-site guides. Two options are available depending on the preferred distance and time on the water, with life jackets provided for safety.
Short Course (±6 km): R250
Long Course (±12 km): R350
Traditional Archery
The venue features a 3D archery course where layouts are altered monthly to vary the challenge. Participants use traditional longbows and arrows under the guidance of an instructor, making the session accessible to beginners as well as experienced archers.
Target Shooting: R125 per person (per hour)
3D Course: R165 per person
