Welcome back to another edition of The Go-To Guy Weekly Diary! We’ve just wrapped up a marathon stretch covering Weeks 18 and 19 of 2026, and if there is one word to describe the atmosphere in Potchefstroom lately, it’s vibrant.

From major business milestones and the roar of engines at the Motorskou to the rising levels of the Mooi River, our "Eyes in the Field" have been everywhere.
This fortnight also marks a significant turning point for our team as we officially welcome a new voice to our digital family. Grab your coffee and settle in for a long-read update on the heartbeat of our community.
Our Eyes in the Field: Potchefstroom
The local landscape has been a mix of celebration and nature showing its true power. Here is how the last two weeks unfolded in chronological order.
April 28: Pandmekka Hits the Big 30!
We started the week on a high note with a visit to a local institution. Pandmekka is officially turning 30 on May 1st, and they aren’t just having a sale; they’re throwing a massive party.
The team at Pandmekka is inviting the whole town to join the festivities. If you pop in, you can try your luck with their "Pop-a-Balloon" promotion for massive discounts. There will also be pancakes and hot dogs to keep your energy up while you browse.
Win Big: There is still time to enter their lucky draw! Spend R300 or more, drop your slip in the box, and you could win one of three grand prizes to be drawn on May 1st.
April 28: Savings Flow at Flo-Tek
On the same day, we swung by Flo-Tek at Palm Square. If you’ve been putting off those home maintenance tasks, this is the week to act. They are currently running store-wide promotions, with a massive Clearance Sale on DAB pumps. For anyone needing reliable water solutions, these prices are hard to beat while stocks last.
April 29: High Waters and Heritage
Mid-week, nature took center stage. Following the recent heavy rains, the Mooi River has pushed up significantly. We checked in at the Van Rooy Street bridge, where the water was streaming strongly over the structure. It’s a beautiful yet sobering reminder of the power of our local water systems.
While out and about, we also visited the Old Train Station. There was a time when the whistle of steam engines was the primary pulse of Potch. Exploring the unique architecture and thinking about the thousands of journeys that started here was a true trip back in time.
April 29: Fresh Ingco Stock at Build it
For the DIY crowd, the news of the day was the arrival of brand-new Ingco stock at Build it. From the latest cordless gadgets to project essentials, the shelves are freshly packed. As always with Ingco, these items move fast, so don't wait too long.
April 30: Ducks and Divots at the Golf Course
The river continued to show its muscles on Thursday. The MooiRivier pushed out wide across the golf course, creating some unexpected new water hazards! Even the local ducks seemed to be enjoying the expanded territory. It’s a spectacular sight if you’re driving past that side of town.
May 1: Engines and Elegance – Motorskou 2026
The first of May was a feast for the senses. Motorskou 2026 took over, and it had everything: fast cars, great food, and incredible music. According to the official program (seen on the vintage-style posters across town), the day kicked off early with background music and an official opening by Ds. Willem Kok.
From antique auctions in the church hall to a specialized dog show by Canine Focus SA, the variety was immense. A highlight was definitely the performance by artist Jakkie Louw, who kept the crowd entertained before the final prize giving at 13:00.
May 1: A Taste of the Cape in Potch
For those with a more refined palate, Suidsentrum Wine Affairs brought a taste of the Western Cape to our doorstep. Their event, "Die Kaap kom kuier in Potch," was a sophisticated highlight of the weekend, proving you don't need to drive to Stellenbosch to enjoy world-class wine culture.
May 4: Exploring West Acres
As we moved into Week 19, we continued our tour of local shopping hubs. We stopped by West Acres, a center that always hums with a busy, practical atmosphere. Whether it’s your daily groceries or specialized services, West Acres remains a staple stop for residents on that side of town.

May 5: A New Voice – Welcoming Milla C Lubbe!
This was a huge day for us at The Go-To Guy. Our family is growing, and we are thrilled to introduce Milla C Lubbe as our new Studio Presenter! Milla joins us this week to help bring the stories of our community to life.
At The Go-To Guy, we believe every business and person in Potch has a heart, and we’re excited for Milla to be the new voice that narrates those stories. Give her a warm welcome when you see her on your screens!
May 6: Pit Stops and River Checks
Wednesday was all about convenience and a final look at the river. We visited Sasol Baillie Park, which serves as a lifesaver for those on the move. From a quick coffee to last-minute essentials, it’s the ultimate "pit stop."
We also did a final check-in on the MooiRivier at the N12 bridge. Right across from MooiRivier Mall, the water was still pushing high, demonstrating the full force of the river as it flowed under the bridge.
May 7: The Modern Vibe at Canal Crossing
We wrapped up our Potch tour at Canal Crossing. With its modern, open-air layout and fresh atmosphere, it’s easy to see why it’s a favorite for coffee dates and weekly shopping alike. It perfectly captures the contemporary side of Potchefstroom living.
Ikageng: Hustle, Heart, and Home
Our team in Ikageng has been focusing on the landmarks and local energy that define the township.
May 7: The Pulse of Ikageng
There is no energy quite like the Ikageng Shopping Centre. Whether you’re bagging what you need for the house or catching up with family and friends in the aisles, the hustle here is real and the spirit is unmatched.
May 7: Icons and Entrances
We also paid a visit to the Ikageng Gate. It’s more than just a landmark; it’s a symbol of the community’s heart. It stands as an entrance to a place defined by hard work, resilience, and a deep sense of belonging.
Sports: Tiki Taka Takes the Stage
On April 28, the Tiki Taka Sports Academy proved once again that the future of local sport is in good hands. We hosted the Klerksdorp Promising Stars at the Agricultural College Ground for a day of intense competition.
From the U11s showing incredible heart to the U17s bringing the thunder, it was a massive day for development. While the scores were competitive, the real victory was seeing the growth of these young athletes.
Looking Ahead
Weeks 18 and 19 have reminded us that Potchefstroom is a town of deep roots and exciting new branches. From celebrating 30 years of business at Pandmekka to welcoming Milla to our studio, we are constantly evolving.
As the river begins to settle, our schedule is only heating up. Stay tuned for Milla's first official studio interviews,we have some incredible guests lined up!
