  • The Backbone of Solar Solutions: Orka Solar’s Electrical Expertise

Orka Solar, a Potchefstroom-based solar energy company founded in 2009, has built its reputation on more than just panels and batteries. A key reason their installations excel is that, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance”. In other words, behind every Orka solar system is a solid foundation of electrical work, from wiring and compliance to geysers and ongoing maintenance, handled by an in-house team of qualified electricians. Quality and professionalism are non-negotiable in this approach, which is why developers, engineers, and homeowners across South Africa rely on Orka’s expertise for cost-effective, high-quality workmanship. The result is solar power systems that not only generate energy, but do so safely, efficiently, and in harmony with each client’s electrical infrastructure. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations Geyser Installations (Including Solar Geysers) Water heating is a major energy drain in many South African homes, electric geysers can account for up to 40% of a household’s electricity usage . Orka Solar addresses this with its geyser installation services, which include fitting energy-efficient electric geysers and integrating solar geysers (solar hot-water systems). Image: The Go-To Guy Creations By installing or retrofitting solar water heaters, Orka helps clients slash the hefty portion of power used for hot water, cutting utility bills and easing the load on solar backup systems. The company doesn’t just set up these geysers and walk away; Orka’s team also maintains them. In fact, Orka explicitly provides maintenance for solar geysers (alongside solar PV systems) to keep these assets running at optimal efficiency at all times . This means homeowners can enjoy hot showers powered by the sun, confident that their geyser is installed correctly and will be looked after by experts for the long term. Full Electrical Reticulation for Seamless Integration An Orka Solar installation showcasing the integration of batteries inverters, including Victron blue units, and custom electrical panels. By handling full electrical reticulation in-house, Orka ensures that wiring, distribution boards, and all components are neatly installed and compliant. This level of electrical workmanship illustrates how Orka’s team connects renewable energy systems seamlessly into a building’s existing power network. When it comes to larger projects or new constructions, Orka Solar offers full electrical reticulation services, essentially the complete design and installation of a building’s electrical wiring network. This means from the distribution board to the last light switch, Orka’s electricians can wire a home, business or farm reliably and make it “solar-ready” from day one. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations The benefit for property developers and engineers is a one-stop solution: the same contractor can both wire the premises and integrate the solar power system. Orka’s workmanship in this area meets the high standards these professionals demand, at cost-effective rates . By having Orka handle the cabling, circuit layout, and connection of solar inverters/batteries, clients avoid the gaps that can occur when separate teams do the electrical and the solar work. Everything is integrated by a single expert team, which guarantees that the solar equipment is seamlessly tied into the electrical system and meets all regulatory standards . In practical terms, this translates to safer installations and smoother project timelines, no last-minute electrical snags when switching on a new solar array, because Orka’s electricians already ensured the wiring “backbone” was done right from the start. Ensuring Compliance: Electrical Certificates of Compliance (CoC) Any solar installation is more than just an add-on, legally, it’s an alteration to a building’s electrical setup. In South Africa, “any addition or alteration” to an electrical installation (for example, adding a solar power system) requires an updated Electrical Certificate of Compliance (CoC) to be issued . This certificate is the official proof that the wiring and equipment meet the national safety code (SANS 10142-1) and are safe to use. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations Orka Solar streamlines this crucial step by providing compliance certification (Electrical CoC) as part of its service offerings . The company’s engineers are not only skilled in installation but are also authorized to inspect and certify that all electrical work – from the PV inverter down to the circuit breakers, adheres to regulations. For the client, this means peace of mind and hassle-free paperwork: every Orka project comes with the needed certificates verifying that the system “meets regulatory standards”. Homeowners and developers alike benefit, since they won’t face legal or insurance issues down the line. In short, Orka’s attention to compliance ensures that going solar doesn’t just save energy, it’s done safely and by the book, with all the documentation to prove it. Proactive Electrical Maintenance and Support Orka Solar technicians carry out regular maintenance such as solar panel cleaning, which is essential for keeping systems efficient. The company’s maintenance plans also include routine inspections of inverters and electrical components, ensuring that each solar installation continues to perform at its best. By keeping panels clean and all wiring and equipment in top shape, Orka helps clients achieve maximum long-term savings from their solar investments. Installing a solar-energy system is a long-term investment, and Orka Solar backs it up with comprehensive maintenance services to protect that investment. The company offers ongoing support to keep both the solar array and the underlying electrical infrastructure in peak condition. This goes far beyond an occasional check-up – Orka provides monthly service packages that cover everything from mechanical inspections and inverter software updates to performance testing and detailed monitoring reports . Importantly, these maintenance visits include a “comprehensive electrical inspection” of the system . Orka’s team will examine DC and AC cabling, test surge protection devices, inspect distribution boards, and verify electrical safety compliance on a regular basis . By catching any issue early, be it a loose connection, a worn cable, or an underperforming panel, they ensure the solar setup continues running safely and efficiently. This diligent upkeep is key to delivering the “maximum savings over the long term” that solar promises , since a well-maintained system operates closer to its peak output and components last longer. Orka’s hands-on, proactive approach to service has earned praise from clients. Developers and homeowners alike benefit from not having to worry about the technical upkeep of their systems,Orka has that covered. In fact, the company actively monitors many of its installations in real-time. Clients report that the Orka team will even call them if there’s extended load-shedding and the backup battery is running low, or alert them if an internet outage has knocked the system offline . This level of attentiveness reflects a commitment to customer success beyond the initial sale. With Orka’s maintenance crew on the job, solar system owners get true peace of mind: they know their lights will stay on, and if something needs fixing, it will be addressed promptly by professionals who know their system inside out. Residential Electrical Work with a Solar Perspective While large commercial projects often steal the spotlight, Orka Solar hasn’t forgotten about the basics. The company provides a full range of residential electrical work, bringing the same expertise used in solar projects to everyday electrical needs in homes. Whether it’s wiring a new home extension, installing modern LED lighting, upgrading an old distribution board, or simply adding a few plug points, Orka’s electricians handle the task with the quality guarantee that the brand is known for. For homeowners, this is a valuable bonus: they can call on a trusted solar provider for general electrical repairs or improvements, ensuring that any new electrical work is done safely and is compatible with future solar upgrades. Orka emphasizes that the “quality of work and professional service is key in all we do”, and that ethos applies equally to a small household job as it does to a big solar farm. Notably, all of Orka’s electricians and installers are full-time employees, not subcontractors . This means when you hire Orka for a job, you get a dedicated team that’s consistently trained, supervised, and held to the company’s high standards. Homeowners thus benefit from workmanship that is both personal and reliable, with the added comfort that the people installing their kitchen lights or outdoor security beams have deep knowledge of advanced solar-electric systems as well. It’s an assurance that every electrical tweak or addition is done with an eye toward efficiency, safety, and the long game of energy management. Powering Solar Solutions with Electrical Excellence From hot-water geysers to high-voltage wiring, Orka Solar’s broad electrical expertise truly is the backbone that supports its renewable energy solutions. By offering end-to-end electrical services, Orka makes it easier for different stakeholders to embrace solar power. Property developers can undertake new building projects knowing one contractor can deliver both the electrical reticulation and the solar plant, all compliant and ready to go. Engineers collaborating with Orka can trust that technical standards will be upheld across the entire system, ensuring their designs are executed faithfully and safely. Homeowners gain the convenience of a single, trustworthy point of contact for everything from a compliance certificate to a faulty light switch – with the added benefit that this partner understands how to optimize a household for solar energy now and in the future. • SportStroom with Freddy Ngoza: Rebuilding Rugby From the Ground Up

In this riveting episode of SportStroom, Drikus sits down with Freddy Ngoza, former Springbok loose forward, now assistant coach at the Leopards rugby team and CEO of Phoenix Sports Group. From his days in the jersey of the Bulls and Falcons to his global vision for sports development, Freddy offers insight, passion, and purpose. From the Field to the Boardroom Freddy Ngoza’s journey through professional rugby spans teams like the Blue Bulls, Free State, Falcons, and even clubs in Russia and Lesotho. But post-retirement, Freddy didn’t walk away from the game, he walked deeper into it. Founding Phoenix Sports Group was his way to give back and create the support structure he once wished for. Inspired by the mythical phoenix that rises from ashes, Freddy saw his transition from player to mentor and CEO as a symbolic rebirth. With Phoenix Sports Group, he’s now igniting opportunities for youth across South Africa. What is Phoenix Sports Group? Phoenix is a sports promotion company focused on youth development, with a particular emphasis on rugby. The organization offers: One-on-one coaching and athlete identification Holistic development (academic, mental, and physical) Coaching clinics and skill refinement Exposure opportunities through collaborations like the Cape Town Tens They aim to go beyond just building players, Phoenix develops future coaches, managers, and sport professionals, creating an ecosystem of sustainable careers in sport. The Core Mission and Five-Year Plan The core mission of Phoenix Sports Group is to globalize their unique “one-versus-one” rugby coaching philosophy and create value for their partners through impact-driven programs. Their five-year plan centers around expanding this model both nationally and internationally, using their strong social media following and community networks to push for global reach. Meet the Team Behind the Vision Phoenix Sports Group might be small, but it is mighty: Freddy Ngoza  – CEO and founder, the heart of the operation Darren Kramer  – Cape Town-based entrepreneur and investor with a shared vision of uplifting disadvantaged communities Greg Mac Donald  – Chief Financial Officer, based in London, UK Media Team  – Freddy’s wife and close friend manage all media output and branding The organization started with just three people but has since grown into a structured, dynamic team capable of running complex, high-impact operations across South Africa. Expanding Beyond Rugby While rugby remains the flagship focus, Freddy has clear ambitions to expand into: Soccer  – Recognizing the deep talent pool in local communities Netball  – Empowering female athletes in disadvantaged areas Cricket  – Tapping into the vast base of potential Frisbee (Glove Action)  – A novel, multi-gender sport ideal for youth development in primary schools Still, Freddy is committed to first globalizing rugby within Phoenix’s structures before launching into other sports. Why They Created the Academy Structure Initially, Phoenix’s one-on-one coaching model involved hosting weekend events. But Freddy quickly realized that two-day sessions weren’t enough to create lasting change. That realization birthed the academy structure , where long-term skill development and mentorship could take root. These academies are set up regionally and focus on: Skill development Academic support Mental conditioning Exposure through competition Balancing Prestige with Grassroots Development Phoenix doesn’t just chase trophies, development is their cornerstone. That’s why everything is rooted in structured academy programs. They believe real impact happens through consistency, not one-off events. By traveling with their tent series and returning to communities, they ensure continuity and lasting influence. A Model Built to Travel Phoenix doesn’t operate from a single venue. Their mobile format allows them to: Host regional qualifiers Train local coaches Roll out 12-week skill programs with recurring assessments Expand across Eastern Cape, Atlantis, and other regional hubs With plans to eventually grow into 24 regional hubs , Phoenix is building a model that replicates success while remaining deeply rooted in community upliftment. From the dusty fields of disadvantaged towns to the polished pitches of international venues, Freddy Ngoza’s Phoenix Sports Group is blazing a new trail in youth development. It’s not just about producing rugby stars, it’s about transforming lives through sport. 🔗 Learn more at phoenixsportsgroup.co.za Watch the full interview by clicking on the button below: #TheGoToGuy #potchgazette #potchefstroom #stroomstories #Sportstroom
