Residents across Klerksdorp and surrounding towns will soon be required to take charge of their own water and electricity meter readings , following the expiry of a key municipal service contract. The change, which takes effect from 1 November , comes after the City of Matlosana’s agreement with Mosekate Trading and Projects Company  concluded at the end of September. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations ⚙️ Background: End of a Service Contract The contract between Matlosana Municipality  and Mosekate Trading and Projects Company  began in 2021, assigning the company responsibility for reading meters across areas including Klerksdorp, Jouberton, Kanana, Orkney, and Stilfontein . Municipal officials confirmed that the contract officially expired on 30 September 2025 , and while a new service provider has not yet been appointed, all September readings , which form the basis of October billing , have already been captured. This means residents’ current accounts remain unaffected. However, from November onwards , residents will need to submit their own meter readings  directly to the municipality to ensure accurate billing. The change forms part of an interim arrangement until new systems or contracts are finalised. 📷 How the New Process Works Residents have been asked to follow a self-reporting process  to keep their accounts up to date. 1️⃣ Take a clear photo  of your meter between the 1st and 10th of each month . The image must display both the meter reading and a visible timestamp  (date and time). A free timestamp app can be downloaded from the Play Store to assist with this requirement. 2️⃣ Email the photo  to: billinggroup@klerksdorp.org  or meter-reading@klerksdorp.org . Include your account number  in the email subject line. If you do not have access to your electrical or water meter, you should mention this in your message. 3️⃣ Keep all photos stored  safely as proof in case of billing disputes or system errors . The municipality has confirmed that all validly submitted readings will be used for account processing. 💬 Reactions and Context Local residents have expressed a mix of understanding and concern. Consecutive Mechanical and Infrastructure Challenges The JB Marks Local Municipality  has provided an updated report on ongoing service disruptions  affecting both refuse collection  and water supply  across parts of the municipality.The situation began on Monday, 13 October 2025 , when multiple refuse removal trucks  experienced mechanical breakdowns, causing missed collections across four routes. On Tuesday, 14 October 2025 , the impact extended further as additional vehicles broke down, and operations at the Ventersdorp Water Treatment Plant  continued to face interruptions due to emergency mechanical and electrical failures. Municipal officials confirmed that technical and engineering teams are actively addressing the issues, with work continuing around the clock to minimize inconvenience to residents. Routes affected on Monday, 13 October 2025: Taung Section Yizo Yizo & Skoti Phola Two Rooms, Loans & 4 Line Sections Witrand Hospital, SANDF & Dassierand Flats Routes affected on Tuesday, 14 October 2025: Dassierand Baillie Park Matlwang (including parts of Two Rooms and Kanana) Mohadin, Barcelona, Promosa, and Greenfields The municipality extends its sincere apologies to residents affected by these interruptions and confirms that repairs to the damaged trucks are underway. Once mechanical work is complete, backlog collections will be prioritized. Residents are encouraged to keep refuse securely stored to prevent littering and interference by stray animals. In the interim, water supply is being maintained through the old treatment plant, which cannot meet full demand. Over the past 30 days, Potchefstroom Track Club (PTC)  has witnessed one of its most successful and action-packed months of the year. From World Championship debuts  to national cross-country triumphs  and record-breaking performances , the club’s athletes have continued to demonstrate the depth of South African endurance and track talent. September and early October 2025 will be remembered as a month of resilience, teamwork, and international achievement. Global Stage Presence: Elroy Gelant and Douw Smit Fly the Flag The month began with Potchefstroom’s marathon maestro Elroy Gelant  taking on his first Marathon World Championship  on 15 September , marking his 10th global championship appearance . Although facing grueling heat, Gelant crossed the line 33rd in 2:16:32 , earning admiration for his determination and endurance. His coach, Jean Verster , handed him his official Team SA kit just days before departure, a moment of pride for both athlete and club. Meanwhile, Douw Smit  represented South Africa in Tokyo , competing in the javelin throw  at the World Championships  on 17 September . Guided by coach Dr. Chris de Beer , a former international javelin thrower himself, Smit’s participation underscored Potch Track Club’s growing influence beyond distance events. National Triumphs: Cross Country Success in Middelburg The ASA Cross Country Championships  in Middelburg  became a showcase of PTC dominance, led by a stellar line-up of both senior and junior athletes. Danielle Verster  made a remarkable comeback from injury, claiming the U23 women’s 4km title  and finishing 2nd overall in the senior women’s race  with a time of 13:54 . Andrea Steynberg  delivered a standout double, taking gold in the U20 2km , bronze in the U20 6km , and a team silver  with ACNW in the U20 6km event . Amogelang Tatai  completed a golden double , winning the 7km junior men’s race (26:02)  and the 2km junior event (05:49) , while also finishing 6th overall  in the senior 2km. Team highlights  included Dino ’s 7th place in the men’s 10km, Divan ’s silver in the men’s 8km team event, and Alri Verster ’s 5th in the 6km and 4th in the 2km junior races. Amogelang Tatai  clocked 8:07.71 , narrowly missing his personal best, with teammate Lutho Timathi  providing excellent pacing. In the U19 division, Bertus van der Linde  secured silver in the 3000m (8:43) , while Alri Verster  earned bronze in the girls’ 3000m (10:29) , followed closely by Katelynn Steenkamp  in 5th (10:41) . While the majority of businesses in both Randlespark and Ellaton were found to be operating within acceptable compliance standards, several violations were recorded. These included: Improperly packaged and labelled products The sale of illegal or unregistered cosmetics Mixing of incompatible goods , which pose potential fire and health risks Expired food items  still displayed for sale All identified non-compliant products were confiscated and safely disposed of  in accordance with health and safety protocols. Format and Entry Each team will need four players, with the format set as Trips, which, in typical bowls fashion, doesn’t involve any travel but will definitely include plenty of rolling. The entry fee is R3,000 per team, and the organisers are keeping things tight with a cap at 24 teams.
