The 42nd edition of the Great Brick Run will take place on Saturday, 24 January 2026 in Potchefstroom. The event is hosted by Berts Bricks Atletiekklub with the support of ACNW and Protime. Runners will once again set off from the Snowflake Building at 2 Kock Street. This long-standing race is known for its flat and fast route, timed from gun to mat, making it a good opportunity for those chasing a personal best. Distances, Fees and Start Times Three race distances are available: 21.1 km: Online entry R170, day entry R220, start 06:15 10 km: Online entry R120, day entry R170, start 06:20 4.9 km: Online entry R40, day entry R60, start 06:20 Race day entries open from 05:00. Temporary licences are available for R70 and are required for the 21.1 km and 10 km events if a runner does not already hold an ASA licence. Registration and Number Collection Online entries close on 16 January 2026 at 15:00. Runners who missed the online window can still register on the day. Late entries and race pack collections will take place on 23 January 2026 from 16:00 to 19:00 at the Snowflake venue. Participants are reminded to wear their race numbers on the front of their vests. Numbers are fitted with timing chips, so they should be handled carefully. Beer for Bricks In what has become a quirky tradition, the first 100 athletes who manage to complete the 21.1 km while carrying a brick will each receive a six-pack of beer. Deelnemers gaan van 18:00 tot 21:00 saam sit en skilder met ink. Dit klink eenvoudig, maar dié wat al probeer het weet dat ink ’n lewe van sy eie het. Die kleure vloei, meng en verras jou soos jy werk. Party mense kies om fyn en delikaat te verf, ander spat en mors net. Dit open amptelik op 7 Oktober 2025 om 16:00 by die bekende Snowflake Venue, geleë op die hoek van Piet Bosman- en Wolmaransstraat. Die openingsrede word gedoen deur Dr Louisemarie Combrink. Die uitstalling vorm deel van die Momentum Aardklop Nasionale Kunstefees en is oop tot 11 Oktober. Wat om te verwag Miller beskryf haar werk as ’n gesprek met haarself, die kuns “praat terug” en sy antwoord dan weer deur nuwe temas of deur vorige werke om te keer. Die resultate is digitale drukwerke, collages, installasies, skilderye en tekeninge wat almal op ’n manier oor “behoort” en sisteme van samehorigheid praat. A Festival for Budding Artists The NWU Gallery is opening its doors to younger audiences with a children’s art programme as part of the Momentum Aardklop Festival 2025. Originally launched as ALFA in Parys, the event has grown into the country’s top livestock expo. Now, with NAMPO Park as host, the livestock section is joined by hunting and outdoor life. According to organisers, the combination makes sense, if you farm animals, there’s a fair chance you like a bit of biltong and a fishing rod too. SpekGesprek: Talking Pork On Saturday, 18 October 2025 (09:00 – 12:00), the Member’s Hall at NAMPO Park will host SpekGesprek, a panel discussion diving into the tough questions around South Africa’s pork industry. The line-up includes: Andrew Reeders (Topigs Norsvin): Business and economics of pig farming. Stefan Corbett (Agritistics): Data and decision support for pig producers. Shaun Mockford (Mockford Farms/The Flying Pig): Welfare-focused pork production. Enrike Maree (AgreetothisAgri): Agri communicator busting consumer myths. Stefan Vermaak (Eskort): COO with focus on insights, value chain and innovation. Dr Marlene Louw (SAPPO): Assurance, welfare and consumer trust. Tractor Boeresport Challenge If debates about data-driven pig farming feel too serious, there’s always tractor sports. The Trekker Boeresport competition runs throughout the expo with practice rounds on 16 and 17 October at R50 per person. The final takes place on Saturday, 18 October. Bothas Oktoberfees On Friday, 17 October 2025 at 18:00, the Nampo Saal will host the Bothas Oktoberfees. Expect food stalls, a cash bar and live music from the band Wingerdgriep.
