- Infrastructure Update: Power and Water Disruptions – 11 June 2025
On Wednesday, 11 June 2025, residents across Potchefstroom experienced simultaneous disruptions to essential municipal services, including electricity and water. Several technical faults were identified throughout the day, affecting both supply lines and infrastructure across multiple regions. The following update provides a factual summary of the incidents, repair efforts, and expected service timelines based on official feedback and on-site observations. Power Supply Interruption Across Potchefstroom At approximately 07:00 on Wednesday, 11 June 2025, widespread electricity interruptions were reported in several parts of Potchefstroom. Follow-up inquiries revealed that the outage was caused by a fault on the 132kVA transformer that supplies power to multiple substations in the central area. Both Eskom and JB Marks technical teams responded to the site. Restoration efforts began in affected zones, and by mid-morning, electricity had returned to some areas. Residents were advised to report continued outages directly for follow-up. Water Supply Challenges: Dam Line Damage As of 10:00, reports confirmed damage to the 450mm water pipeline near the dam, affecting reservoir supply operations. The damage occurred during connection work on the adjacent 350mm line. Both lines run in parallel across the dam wall. On-site teams began: Pumping water from the excavation zone Establishing structural supports Preparing a concrete base to stabilize the pipeline The repair is extensive and will take several days to complete. Residents are advised to store sufficient water for up to 3 days . Once the pumps are reactivated, additional delays are expected before normal pressure returns due to the gravity-fed distribution system . The municipality is coordinating water truck delivery in the interim. Ventersdorp Road Pump Station – Electrical Fault In a public notice issued by JB Marks Municipality on 11 June, it was confirmed that Pump 3 at the Ventersdorp Road Main Water Pump Station experienced an under-voltage electrical fault . This has reduced operations to two pumps, limiting the water supply to the Eesterandjies Reservoirs and surrounding extension areas, including Ikageng . The same pump had been temporarily repaired on 10 June but failed again during the early hours of 11 June. Technicians are working on a permanent solution to prevent future disruptions. Further updates will be provided as information becomes available. Municipal teams, along with Eskom and contracted service providers, continue to address the challenges affecting power and water infrastructure. While partial restorations have been made in some areas, ongoing repair operations are expected to take additional time due to the complexity of the issues involved. #TheGoToGuy #potchefstroom #potchgazette #stroomstories

Hierdie ongelukke is heel moontlik as gevolg van roekeloos bestuur of afleidings soos selfone. - Preparing for Grade 8 in 2026: A Guide for South African Grade 7 Learners and Parents
🚌🏫🚌📚 🚌🏫🚌📚 🚌🏫🚌📚 As Grade 7 learners complete their final year of primary school, 2026 brings an exciting new chapter: the transition to Grade 8. This move marks a pivotal point in a learner’s educational journey, especially in the South African schooling system, as it introduces them to the world of secondary education. This article outlines what learners and parents can expect during this transition, and how to prepare effectively. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations 📚 Academic Shifts: From Generalist to Specialist Teaching Increased Subject Load Grade 8 learners typically face a broader range of subjects than in primary school. In addition to core subjects like Mathematics, English, Afrikaans/IsiXhosa/Zulu, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences, they may encounter new subjects such as: Technology Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) Creative Arts Life Orientation Different Teachers for Each Subject Unlike primary school where one teacher handles most subjects, high school learners have subject-specific teachers. This change can be overwhelming at first, but it fosters independence and adaptability. Homework and Assessments Expect an increase in workload, homework, and formal assessments. Learners need to begin developing effective study habits, time management skills, and organizational abilities. 🧑🎓 Personal Growth and Responsibility Greater Independence Grade 8 learners are expected to manage their schedules, maintain their books and materials, and be responsible for meeting deadlines. School environments become less structured and more self-directed. Peer Influence and Social Dynamics Entering a larger school with older learners brings new social dynamics. Peer influence, both positive and negative, becomes more prominent. Open communication between parents and children is essential during this time. Emotional and Physical Changes This phase also coincides with early adolescence. Learners may experience mood swings, body changes, and shifting interests. Schools often offer Life Orientation lessons and counseling support, but parental guidance remains crucial. 🏫 School Environment and Culture Bigger Campuses High schools often have larger grounds and more complex timetables. Learners will navigate between different classrooms, sometimes with limited breaks between periods. Uniform and Discipline Uniforms become more formal and rules more strictly enforced. Understanding and adhering to the school's code of conduct is important for integration and success. Extra-Curricular Activities High schools offer diverse sports, clubs, and societies. Participation is encouraged as it helps learners develop new skills, make friends, and enhance their CVs for future opportunities. 📑 Administrative and Logistical Prep for Parents School Selection and Applications By now, most parents would have completed the Grade 8 application process. However, it’s important to: Confirm placement with the high school. Purchase required stationery and uniforms. Attend orientation sessions if offered. Transport and Safety If the new school is further from home, consider transport logistics. Whether it's public transport, a school bus, or lift clubs, ensure your child understands safety protocols. Financial Planning High school often comes with increased costs, textbooks, trips, and sports gear can add up. Budgeting in advance helps avoid last-minute stress. 💡 Tips for a Smooth Transition Attend Orientation Days : These introduce learners to the school layout, staff, and culture. Create a Homework Routine : Structure and consistency build academic discipline. Encourage Open Communication : Make space for your child to share challenges and victories. Stay Involved : Even as learners become more independent, parental involvement is key to success. Build Support Networks : Connect with other parents and the school's support structures. Transitioning from Grade 7 to Grade 8 is a significant milestone filled with both excitement and uncertainty. By understanding the academic, emotional, and social changes involved, parents and learners can approach 2026 with confidence and preparedness. South African high schools offer vast opportunities for growth, this next step is just the beginning of an empowering new chapter. 🚌🏫🚌📚 🚌🏫🚌📚 🚌🏫🚌📚 #Nextsteps #Highschool #2026 #Thegotoguy #Potchefstroom

Image : The Go-To Guy Creations The Importance of Timely Home Window Repairs A cracked or broken home window might not seem like an emergency at first, but delaying repairs can lead to serious consequences. Here are a few key reasons why fixing damaged windows promptly is so important: Safety and Security: Damaged windows pose an immediate hazard and a security risk. Broken glass can cause injuries, especially to children or pets and even a small crack can weaken the window’s integrity . Worse, a broken or ill-fitting window is an open invitation to intruders, making it easier for burglars to enter your home . Prompt repairs restore the strength of your windows, keeping your property secure and giving you peace of mind that your home is protected . Energy Efficiency: Gaps, cracks, or ill-sealing windows let your indoor climate slip outside, literally throwing money out the window. In winter, a drafty window allows precious warm air to leak out, and in summer it lets hot air in this forces your heating or cooling system to work overtime . By repairing windows quickly (or replacing weatherstripping and sealing any leaks), you prevent drafts and heat loss, which in turn cuts down on energy waste and high utility bills . Simply put, fixing that faulty window will make your home more energy-efficient and comfortable year-round. Aesthetic Appeal: Windows are a prominent feature of your home’s appearance. A cracked pane or broken frame isn’t just a minor eyesore – it can really make your house look neglected or run-down. Timely window repair helps rejuvenate your home’s aesthetics by restoring clear, intact glass and well-fitting frames . Your home will look cared-for and inviting instead of damaged. Maintaining beautiful, problem-free windows also protects your property value by preserving its curb appeal. In a place like Potchefstroom where homeowners take pride in their homes, keeping your windows in top shape ensures your house always looks its best. In short, attending to window issues sooner rather than later keeps your home safe, efficient, and attractive. It also saves you from more costly fixes down the line for example, preventing a small crack from spreading or stopping water leaks that could damage walls or floors. Glasfit Potchefstroom understands these stakes, which is why they offer prompt service for repairs. A quick fix today can spare you bigger headaches tomorrow. Image : The Go-To Guy Creations Benefits of Upgrading to Aluminium Window Frames If your home still has old wooden or steel window frames, you may be considering an upgrade. Replacing traditional window frames with modern aluminium ones has become a popular choice in South Africa, and for good reason. Aluminium windows and doors offer a host of benefits that make them ideal for today’s homes. Here are some of the top advantages: Durability: Aluminium frames are built to last. They are extremely resistant to weather and wear unlike wood, aluminium won’t swell, warp, or rot when exposed to moisture, and unlike steel it will not rust over time . This inherent durability means aluminium windows maintain their shape and strength for decades, even in varying climates. Homeowners can trust that an aluminium frame installed today will stay sturdy and functional for many years with minimal risk of corrosion or decay. Low Maintenance: Tired of sanding down and repainting window frames every few years? Aluminium solves that. These frames are essentially maintenance-free, there’s no need for regular scraping, sealing, or painting as there is with wooden frames . The factory-applied powder-coated finish on aluminium windows is long-lasting and does not peel or flake. All you really need to do is give the frames an occasional cleaning to remove dust. This low upkeep saves time and money in the long run, making aluminium a very convenient choice for busy homeowners. Improved Insulation: It’s a common misconception that metal windows are poor insulators, modern aluminium window systems are designed with thermal performance in mind. New aluminium frames often include thermal break technology and can accommodate high-performance glass (like double glazing) to reduce heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer . They also seal tightly to eliminate drafts around the window . The result is better temperature control indoors and lower energy consumption, especially compared to old single-pane windows in wood or steel frames. Upgrading to aluminium frames with proper installation can therefore make your home more comfortable and energy-efficient. Modern Appeal: Style is another big selling point for aluminium. These frames have a sleek, contemporary appearance with clean lines and slim profiles that maximize the glass area. Installing aluminium windows can instantly update the look of an older home, giving it a fresh modern charm. The minimalist frame design complements almost any architectural style and lets in more natural light . Plus, aluminium frames can be powder-coated in a wide range of colours to match your home’s décor or your personal taste . Whether you prefer classic white, bold charcoal, or a custom color finish, aluminium offers the flexibility to get the exact look you want without sacrificing durability. Overall, the aesthetic boost from aluminium windows can greatly enhance your home’s curb appeal and real estate value. Image : The Go-To Guy Creations Upgrading to aluminium window frames is an investment that pays off in multiple ways – you get a longer lifespan from your windows, spend less time on upkeep, improve your home's energy performance, and enjoy a stylish updated appearance. It’s no wonder that aluminium has become the frame material of choice for many South African homeowners . If you’re considering a window upgrade in Potchefstroom, Glasfit’s team can advise you on the aluminium options that would best suit your house and handle the full installation process with professional care. By choosing Glasfit Potchefstroom for your glass needs, you’re partnering with a local business that combines community-oriented service with the backing of a nationwide industry leader. Whether it’s an urgent window repair after an accident or a planned upgrade to beautify and secure your home, the experts at Glasfit Potchefstroom are equipped to help. With timely repairs and quality products like aluminium frames, you can keep your home safe, energy-efficient, and looking its absolute best for years to come.
