In ons eie dorp en regoor die land is daar honderde, indien nie derduisende, haweloses en armes wat daagliks by verkeersligte of op straathoeke staan en ‘n geldjie vra sonder om ‘n woord te sê - die meeste staan met bakhande, neergeslaande oë en ‘n wanhopige, vernederde trek op hul gesigte. Dit laat my dink aan die fliek, Lien se Lankstaanskoene - die moed en absolute desperaatheid wat ‘n persoon moet hê om jouself so bloot te stel (aan die elemente en die samelewing) is iets byna ongelooflik, maar wat staan jou te doen wanneer dit die laaste uitweg is? Preaching to the choir Kyk, ek is besig om vir myself ook hier te preek. Ek is baie skuldig in hierdie opsig, want ek het dit ook al gedoen, doen dit steeds. En ek probeer regtig help waar en wanneer ek kan, maar soms het ek régtig niks en soms gaan dit maar broekskeur. Dit is juis in daardie tye wat die vyand kom en my probeer troos met “jy kan nie altyd almal help nie, want dan gaan jy self niks hê nie” en dan stoot ek maar die skuldgevoel eenkant toe, want dit is seker in ‘n mate waar? Dan kom die woorde van Matteus 25:35 - 37 by my op: ''For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." En ons is geroep om soos Hy te leef - hoekom sukkel ons dan so om liefde te gee en genade te wys?  Ek dink sommige mense redeneer “die lewe gaan oor keuses en dít is wat gebeur wanneer jy die verkeerde besluite maak”. Maar die realiteit is dat ons nie weet nie. Ons weet nie waarvoor daardie geldjie of waarheen daardie broodjie werklik gaan nie. Ja, die geld kan heel moontlik gebruik word om ‘n verslawing te voed in plaas van hul mage of die brood kan net eenkant toe gegooi word, maar dit kan ook dalk net die draaipunt wees waarvoor hy of sy gewag het. Leon of Lien kon dalk daardie oggend vir die Here gesê, by Hom gepleit, dat wanneer iemand vandag vir hulle ‘n grondboontjiebotter toebroodjie of R7.80 gee, hulle sal weet dat Hy hulle raaksien en nie van hulle vergeet het nie - die detail is belangrik, want God is ‘n Vader van detail en Hy ken ons harte.  Reageer op die roering Dis tyd dat ons uit ons gemaksones klim en ernstig raak.
