  • From Shrinking Her Stature to Standing Tall: Karabo Majola’s Journey to Miss Qhawekazi South Africa 2026

In a world that often asks young women to tone down their presence, Karabo Majola chooses to stand tall, both literally and figuratively. A 25-year-old model and pageant queen from Potchefstroom, Karabo is currently making waves as a Semi-Finalist in Miss Qhawekazi South Africa 2026. Competing among 460 queens nationwide, she is on a mission to secure a spot in the Top 65. But for Karabo, this journey goes far beyond a crown; it is a movement grounded in intentionality, community elevation, and breaking the cycles that cause young people to limit their potential. Anchored by Heritage and a Village of Powerful Women Karabo’s strength was cultivated in Potchefstroom, where she learned early on that true ambition must overcome quiet environments. Raised by a lineage of formidable women, including her late great-grandmothers, her late aunt, and her sister, she was taught that her circumstances in a four-roomed house would never dictate the altitude of her dreams. "Respect, humility, education, love, and selflessness are values I've never run short of because they were instilled in me from a very young age. My family sacrificed so much to make sure I don't only dream, but see life way beyond a four-roomed house." , Karabo Majola With the guidance of dedicated teachers and the unconditional backing of her community, Karabo learned to embrace every obstacle as a stepping stone. Overcoming Self-Doubt: Owning Her Space Before becoming the confident pageant contender she is today, Karabo faced deep personal insecurities. Growing up much taller than her peers, teasing severely damaged her self-esteem, leading her to physically hunch over in an effort to shrink herself. Her turning point arrived eight years ago when she stepped onto the modeling runway. What began as a pursuit of self-confidence transformed into a lifelong calling. Modeling did not just teach her how to walk; it taught her how to exist fully without fear or apology. Today, representing the North West province, Karabo stands as a living mirror for every youth who has ever felt "too much" or "not enough." A Platform Built on Safe Spaces and Purpose Driven by her core philosophy,"Go after what sets your soul on fire", Karabo uses her platform to address the emotional and social hurdles facing youth in townships like Ikageng. Having conquered her own fears surrounding public speaking and self-worth, she is determined to foster environments where collaboration replaces toxic competition and where children feel empowered to chase their ambitions. Through her upcoming initiative, "Karabo ke Mpho Ya Ikageng", she aims to construct real, sustainable safe spaces for local youth, expanding on years of community volunteer work. Her advice to the next generation is direct and resolute: "Chase your dreams no matter how far they may feel. Don’t allow your background or lack of opportunities to limit you... You don’t need millions of people to believe in your dream. You believing in it is enough." , Karabo Majola The Push for the Top 65: How You Can Help Navigating a national pageant requires continuous grit, humility, and active public support. As a returnee contestant working tirelessly to earn every vote, Karabo relies on her extended "village" to help her reach the final stage. By transforming personal trial into a platform for community advocacy, she continues to prove that softness, leadership, and unwavering drive can coexist seamlessly. As the voting deadline approaches, the North West province and supporters across South Africa have the power to help turn her vision into a lasting legacy. #MissQhawekazi2026 #KaraboMajola #VoteContestant370 #NorthWestPride 👑 🇿🇦 👑 🇿🇦

  • Johnny Kôtze Born in Carletonville and How His Career Unfolded into a Success

When sports fans discuss South African rugby powerhouses, the conversation often circles back to coastal academies or big-city schools. But the foundation of elite utility back John-Ben "Johnny" Kôtze traces back to a very different kind of environment: Carletonville, a hard-working mining town in Gauteng’s West Rand. Image(Facebook) : Johnny Kôtze Born there on January 24, 1993, Kôtze carries the unyielding work ethic and relentless physicality synonymous with his hometown. Long before making headlines in Super Rugby and the Currie Cup, Kôtze’s sporting DNA was forged in the raw, industrial resilience of Carletonville,a town built on deep gold mines and a passionate sports culture. The Carletonville Foundation: Built on Raw Grit Carletonville doesn't hand out easy passes. It is an environment that celebrates relentless effort, physical durability, and a blue-collar mindset. Growing up in the heart of South Africa’s mining district gave Kôtze a distinct edge that defined his playing style throughout his career: Unflinching Physicality: A direct, hard-running style that made him a constant threat whether lining up at centre or on the wing. Work Rate: High defensive work rate, known for making crucial low tackles and tracking back relentlessly. Mental Toughness: The resilience required to navigate high-stakes professional rugby across different provinces. The Journey: From West Rand Roots to Coastal Stardom Recognizing his natural athletic talent, Kôtze transitioned from the West Rand to the Western Cape to attend Bishops College in Cape Town. Playing alongside future international stars like Dillyn Leyds and Tim Swiel, he quickly proved that his Carletonville-forged grit translated seamlessly into top-tier schoolboy rugby. His progression through the Western Province ranks was swift and decisive: 2012–2013: Standardized his spot in the Western Province U21 pipeline, culminating in a 30–23 Provincial Championship final win over the Blue Bulls U21. 2014: Showcased his attacking flair for Maties in the Varsity Cup before stepping up to first-class rugby with Western Province in the Vodacom Cup, scoring his first senior try against Simba XV. 2015: Earned his Super Rugby debut with the Stormers, playing the full 80 minutes in a commanding 29–17 victory against the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld. Image(Facebook) : Johnny Kôtze Full Circle: Returning North to Secure His Success After establishing himself as a versatile force with the Stormers and Western Province, Kôtze made a high-profile move back toward his home province, signing with the Bulls in Super Rugby and the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup. In Pretoria, his ability to seamlessly shift between centre and wing made him an indispensable fixture in the backline. Playing back in Gauteng felt like a homecoming,a return to the hard-nosed style of northern rugby that aligned perfectly with his Carletonville roots. Career Milestone Highlight Summary Birthplace Carletonville, Gauteng Schooling Bishops College, Cape Town First-Class Debut Western Province (Vodacom Cup, 2014) Super Rugby Debut Stormers vs. Bulls (2015) Primary Positions Centre (12/13), Wing Key Teams Stormers, Bulls, Western Province, Blue Bulls A Story of Proven Success "You can take the player out of the town, but you can't take the Carletonville grit out of Johnny Kôtze." In professional rugby, flair gets attention, but reliability and toughness win matches. Johnny Kôtze’s career unfolded into a true success story because he combined technical skill with an unshakeable mining-town work ethic. From the gold fields of Carletonville to the premier rugby stadiums of South Africa, Kôtze proved that true resilience always carries you to the top.

En dalk is dit eintlik mooier so.”
