  • Fitness Routines That Benefit Young Golfers

⛳💚⛳💚⛳💚⛳💚⛳💚⛳💚 Golf might look like a calm, easy-paced sport from the outside, but any young golfer will tell you: it demands real strength, focus and stamina. A solid fitness routine doesn’t just help players swing harder, it helps them stay consistent, prevent injuries and stay sharp from the first tee to the last putt. Here’s a look at the routines that genuinely make a difference for growing golfers. Image: The Go-to Guy Creations 🏋️ Strength Training: Building Power Without Bulk Young golfers don’t need heavy bodybuilding exercises. Instead, they benefit from functional strength, movements that support the golf swing. Key exercises: Core rotations  with a resistance band Bodyweight squats  for leg strength Planks  for core stability Light dumbbell work  (e.g., shoulder presses, rows) Why it matters: A strong core and legs help players maintain posture, create power in their swing and avoid lower-back strain, one of the most common injuries among junior golfers. 🤸 Mobility Training: Keeping the Swing Smooth A stiff body leads to a stiff swing. Mobility is often more important than strength for younger players. Focus areas: Hip mobility  – improves rotation through the ball Thoracic spine mobility  – keeps the backswing fluid Shoulder flexibility  – reduces tension at the top of the swing Hamstring stretches  – helps maintain posture Try these: Cat-cow stretch Hip openers Arm circles Gentle rotational stretches before playing Why it matters: Better mobility means a more controlled swing, improved follow-through and less chance of overuse injuries. ⚖️ Balance Work: The Secret Weapon Golf is all about stable footing and body control. Young golfers who work on balance often see improvements almost immediately. Simple balance drills: Standing on one leg while brushing teeth 🦷 Single-leg Romanian deadlifts Using a balance board Toe-to-heel walking on a straight line Why it matters: A balanced golfer hits cleaner shots, stays grounded in windy conditions and avoids unnecessary movement that throws accuracy off. 🏃 Cardiovascular Fitness: Stamina for Long Rounds A typical 18-hole round takes 4–5 hours. For young golfers, fatigue can creep in by the 12th hole. Cardio options: Brisk walking or light jogging Cycling 🚴‍♂️ Swimming Short interval sessions for teens who enjoy faster workouts Why it matters: Good cardio means steady energy throughout the round, better focus and fewer “late-round slumps”. 🧘 Mental Fitness: Often Overlooked, Always Important Golf is as much a thinking game as it is a physical one. Young golfers benefit from routines that help them manage pressure. Helpful habits: 5 minutes of calm breathing before practice Visualising a clean shot 🎯 Positive self-talk during tough holes Short mindfulness sessions after school Why it matters: A calm, focused player recovers faster from bad shots and plays with confidence. 🥗 Bonus Tip: Nutrition Matters Too You can’t drive a car on an empty tank. The same goes for young golfers. Course-friendly snacks: Bananas 🍌 Energy bars Biltong Water with electrolytes on hot days Why it matters: Proper fuel keeps concentration high and mood steady, especially during long matches. A good fitness routine can transform a young golfer’s game. Strength, mobility, balance, cardio and mental fitness all work together to help them swing smoother, play longer and stay injury-free. With just a few simple exercises a week, young players can build a solid foundation for the future, whether they’re aiming for school league success or dreaming of the SA Junior Championships one day. 🏆🌟 Landbou Gholfklub Office: 081-881-1503 Whatsapp: 087-527-0867 Email: Landbougolfclub@gmail Address: Chris Hani St, Potchefstroom, South Africa ⛳💚⛳💚⛳💚⛳💚⛳💚⛳💚 #GolfFitness #JuniorGolf #GolfTraining #YouthSports #HealthyHabits #GolfLife #GolfTips

  • Ikageng Derby: A Clash of Pride, Power and Neighbourhood Bragging Rights

The township of Ikageng is once again set to vibrate with passion and rivalry as North West Signal FC and Bokone FC lock horns in what has become one of the most fiercely contested fixtures in the North West ABC Motsepe League, the iconic Ikageng Derby. Scheduled for 22 November 2025 at Promosa Stadium, Potchefstroom, and kicking off at 15:00, this matchup promises to be more than just 90 minutes of football. It is a meeting of identity, community pride and long-standing competitiveness. A Derby Built on Shared Streets and Divided Loyalties Unlike many football rivalries built on geography alone, the Ikageng Derby is fueled by shared roots. Players, supporters and families often come from the same neighbourhoods. They have grown up together, schooled together and in many cases learned their earliest football skills on the same dusty fields. That is what makes this derby unique. It is personal, intimate and emotionally charged. On one side stands North West Signal FC, a club known for its disciplined structure and community anchored approach. On the other, Bokone FC, a team with flair, confidence and a fanbase that exudes unshakeable belief. When these two meet, it is not just a match. It is a declaration of dominance. More Than Points. It Is About Honour While league standings matter, derby day carries an entirely different weight. Local supporters want bragging rights, the kind that last all season. For the players, it is a chance to etch their names into township football folklore. Every tackle, every sprint, every pass is executed with the knowledge that families, neighbours and childhood friends are all watching. The atmosphere is electrifying, with drums beating, chants erupting and colours clashing. And as always, both sets of fans will fill Promosa Stadium with unmatched spirit, transforming the venue into a theatre of pure township football expression. Tactical Duel and the Intensity to Match North West Signal FC thrives on a cohesive system, often leaning on their defensive organisation and counter attacking precision. Bokone FC, known for creativity and transitional sharpness, approaches the game with expressive build ups and fearless forward play. This contrast sets the stage for a tactical yet emotional showdown, one where discipline meets flair and where structure meets improvisation. A Showcase for Township Talent Beyond the rivalry, the Ikageng Derby remains a powerful platform for local talent. Scouts, stakeholders and football lovers from across the region often attend, knowing that matches like these reveal players made for bigger stages. Many careers have been sparked on derby day, and many more will follow. The Verdict. Expect Fireworks With both sides hungry for victory, and with the community rallying behind their colours, the upcoming clash promises intensity, drama and unforgettable moments, the kind that only township derbies can deliver. Come 22 November, Ikageng will stand still, because derby day is not just a match. It is a story of pride, rivalry and football passion, written anew every season and lived by everyone who calls the township home.

  • Rugby World Cup 2027: All 24 Teams Qualified and the Stage Set for a Historic Tournament

The countdown is officially on. With all 24 nations  now qualified, the Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027  is locked in and ready to deliver one of the most expansive, competitive, and globally inclusive tournaments in rugby history. Hosted in Australia from 1 October to 13 November 2027 , the upcoming World Cup promises a new era for the sport, featuring a refreshed format, more matches, more nations, and a sweeping spread of host cities across the country. Below is a full breakdown of what fans can expect, how the tournament will work, and how the pools will be decided later this year. A Bigger, Bolder World Cup with 24 Nations For the first time, the Rugby World Cup expands from 20 to 24 teams , opening the stage for emerging nations while preserving rugby’s traditional powerhouses. The qualified nations are: Tier 1 / Automatic teams: South Africa, New Zealand, Ireland, England, France, Argentina, Australia, Scotland, Fiji, Italy, Georgia, Japan. Remaining qualifiers: Wales, USA, Spain, Chile, Tonga, Uruguay, Canada, Portugal, Romania, Hong Kong China, Zimbabwe, and Samoa. This expanded lineup means wider global representation and a refreshed competition landscape that will make pool battles more unpredictable than ever before. Tournament Dates and Structure The tournament kicks off on 1 October 2027  and runs through to the final on 13 November 2027 . Over the course of 52 matches , the competition will unfold in a newly designed format meant to balance fairness, competitiveness, and player welfare. Six Pools, 24 Teams, and a Clear Path to the Knockouts The event will feature six pools  (Pools A–F), each containing four teams . Every team will play three pool matches , one against each group opponent. How Teams Progress The top two teams in each pool  automatically qualify for the knockouts ( 12 teams ). These are joined by the four best third-placed teams  across all six pools, determined by competition points and tie-breakers such as points difference and tries scored. This creates a Round of 16 , the first in Rugby World Cup history. The Knockout Stages: Round of 16 to the Grand Final Round of 16 Sixteen teams will battle it out in eight matches. Pool winners face either third-placed teams or runners-up depending on their pool, while runners-up face a mix of top seeds or fellow second-place teams. Quarter-Finals The eight R16 winners move into the quarter-finals, where the competition tightens and the margins shrink. Semi-Finals & Bronze Final Four teams clash in the semis, with winners advancing to the Rugby World Cup final and losers meeting in the bronze final. The Final – 13 November 2027 The champions will be crowned at Accor Stadium in Sydney , the grand stage reserved for the closing chapter of the tournament. Pool Draw: 3 December 2025 – Rankings Will Decide Everything The pools for Rugby World Cup 2027 have not yet been assigned . Instead, they will be determined during the official draw on 3 December 2025 in Sydney . How the Draw Will Work Teams will be seeded based on the World Rugby Men’s Rankings  as they stand at the time of the draw. The 24 teams will be placed into four “bands” of six teams , sorted by ranking. Each pool will receive one team from each band. The actual pool placement is done randomly , creating both balance and unpredictability. Host nation rule:Australia is automatically allocated to Pool A , ensuring the Wallabies will feature in the tournament’s opening match. This ensures the draw reflects the most current international form while giving every team, whether a favourite or a newcomer, an equal opportunity during the pool allocations. Seven Host Cities Across Australia RWC 2027 will be one of the most geographically diverse tournaments ever held in the southern hemisphere. Matches will be played in seven cities  across Australia: Sydney Melbourne Brisbane Perth Adelaide Newcastle Townsville Venue Highlights The opening match  will take place at Optus Stadium in Perth . Accor Stadium in Sydney  will host both semi-finals, the bronze final, and the Grand Final. The remaining cities will host a mix of pool matches and Round of 16 encounters, ensuring nationwide involvement and major tourism impact. A Tournament Set for High Drama With an expanded playing field, a modernized format, and a full calendar of 52 matches across seven host cities, the Rugby World Cup 2027  is shaping up to be an unforgettable global event. The confirmation of all 24 qualified nations  marks a major milestone, but the real intrigue begins on 3 December 2025 , when the pools are drawn and the pathway to World Cup glory becomes clear. As the rugby world waits for the matchups, one thing is certain: Australia 2027 will redefine what a Rugby World Cup looks like. • Stories of Strength, Companionship & Care at the Orkney & Klerksdorp Animal Shelter

The Orkney & Klerksdorp Animal Shelter continues to navigate a period shaped by emotional surrenders, inspiring resilience, and the tireless commitment of the people who stand behind its mission. Despite daily challenges and unpredictable cases, the shelter remains a refuge where frightened animals find safety, long-term residents search for belonging, and dedicated volunteers offer comfort through every difficult moment. This collection of stories reflects the true rhythm of shelter life, demanding, heartbreaking, hopeful, and deeply human. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations 💛 Bonded Hearts: Mango & Litchi’s Search for Stability Among this month’s new arrivals are Mango, a male Beagle mix, and Litchi, a fluffy white female who shares an unbreakable bond with him. Recently surrendered, the pair arrived visibly confused but undeniably close. Their relationship offers comfort in unfamiliar surroundings, making it essential that they be adopted together. The shelter hopes to find a home where their companionship is valued and protected, a place where two hearts can settle and heal side by side. 🌟 The Kindness of One: Linda’s Quiet Impact One of the shelter’s longest-serving volunteers, Linda, continues to create calm in the midst of crisis. Known for her warmth, steady presence, and gentle greetings, she supports staff, welcomes visitors, and reassures frightened animals who arrive at the gates. Her acts of kindness, birthday cakes, comforting words, small gestures of care, form a supportive backbone within the shelter. Linda’s presence is a reminder that animal rescue is built not only on physical labour, but on emotional generosity. 🐩 Paula, the Poodle with a Spirit for Adventure Paula, an energetic poodle with a bright personality, has officially been listed for adoption. She thrives on outings, car rides, and human companionship, making kennel life particularly stressful for her. A home that can match her enthusiasm and affection would allow her to flourish. The shelter also extended appreciation to Patsy of Ladies & Tramps Doggy Parlour , who continues to groom shelter animals at no cost - a gesture that ensures dogs like Paula remain healthy, comfortable, and adoption-ready. 🌱 Two Journeys of Healing: Dina and Zara Dina: Growing Up in a World Too Small Young Dina has spent her entire life behind shelter walls, having arrived as a stray pup. Her energy, excitement, and curiosity reflect a dog eager to explore a world she has never truly known. With guidance, training, and patient companionship, she has the potential to blossom into a confident, well-adjusted dog. Zara: Rediscovering Trust After Hardship In contrast, Zara’s journey has been quiet and cautious. A snow-white bull terrier mix, she arrived wary of sudden movements, hinting at a difficult past. Yet throughout her time at the shelter, she has remained gentle. With patience, she has begun trusting again, becoming more playful and relaxed. She would thrive in a calm home without young children, a safe space that honours the progress she has made. 💔 A Heartfelt Appeal for Buks & Vlooi Among the most touching stories of the month is the plea for Buks and Vlooi. After their owner became gravely ill, neighbours did everything they could to care for the pair. But when circumstances eventually made this impossible, the dogs were brought to the shelter. Vlooi, elderly and fragile, barely lifts her head, while Buks stays faithfully beside her. Their emotional bond is strong, and separating them now would be heartbreaking. The shelter is appealing for someone able to give them a shared home, even as an end-of-life foster , so they can spend their remaining time in warmth and comfort. 🎉 Honouring Dedication: Diane’s Birthday The shelter also celebrated their Operations Manager, Diane, whose leadership keeps the organisation grounded. Known for her precision, determination, and deep commitment to animal welfare, she has become a guiding force within the shelter. Her work often takes place behind the scenes, coordinating emergencies, organising intakes, and ensuring daily operations function smoothly. Her birthday offered the team a rare moment to express gratitude for her unwavering support and remarkable consistency. 🤝 A Shelter Shaped by Compassion and Commitment The Orkney & Klerksdorp Animal Shelter continues to carry out its work through a blend of dedication, resilience, and community support. Each story, from surrendered pairs seeking stability to long-term resident dogs hoping for a new beginning, highlights the shelter’s ongoing commitment to giving every animal a fighting chance. As these animals wait for homes filled with patience and love, the shelter relies on adopters, donors, and volunteers to help shape brighter futures. Every act of support, whether large or small, brings hope to those who cannot speak for themselves. All image credits: Orkney & Klerksdorp Animal Shelter Disclaimer At the time of publication, no adoptions had been confirmed for the animals mentioned above. • The Gift of Sterilisation: A Step Toward a Kinder Future for Animals

The SPCA Carletonville and District  continues its mission to promote responsible pet ownership and improve animal welfare through its ongoing animal sterilisation initiative . As part of its dedicated efforts to protect and uplift the lives of local animals, the branch will be hosting another sterilisation day on Friday, 21 November , with four open spots still available  for pet owners wishing to take part. Sterilisation is one of the most effective ways to reduce overpopulation, prevent unwanted litters, and ensure that every animal has a chance to live a healthy, happy life. It is more than a procedure, it’s an act of compassion that helps both animals and communities thrive. Why Sterilisation Matters Uncontrolled breeding remains one of the biggest challenges in animal welfare. Across South Africa, thousands of cats and dogs end up abandoned, neglected, or euthanised simply because there are not enough homes for them. Through sterilisation, SPCA Carletonville aims to break this cycle of suffering . Sterilisation helps by: 🐾 Preventing overpopulation:  Fewer unwanted litters mean fewer strays and abandoned animals. 💉 Improving health:  Sterilised pets have a lower risk of certain cancers, infections, and behavioral issues. 💙 Promoting safety:  Reducing aggressive behaviour and territorial fighting among animals. 🏡 Strengthening community welfare:  Fewer stray animals lead to safer, cleaner neighbourhoods. Each sterilisation performed by the SPCA is conducted with the highest level of care by qualified veterinarians, ensuring both comfort and safety for every pet. Sterilisation Day – Friday, 21 November This upcoming Sterilisation Friday  is another opportunity for local pet owners to take a proactive step toward responsible ownership. The SPCA team encourages residents to book their pets as soon as possible , as there are only four spots left  for the session. The service includes: Cat and dog sterilisation at affordable rates Professional, compassionate veterinary care Pre- and post-surgery guidance from SPCA staff Pet owners are reminded that sterilisation not only benefits their animals but contributes directly to a more humane and sustainable community. Image: SPCA Carletonville Gratitude to Local Supporters Community support continues to play a vital role in the success of SPCA Carletonville’s initiatives. Recently, Goudwes School  made a remarkable donation to assist with the shelter’s ongoing needs, a gesture that demonstrates true community spirit and empathy for animals. The SPCA extends heartfelt thanks to every learner, teacher, and parent who contributed to this generous act. Such partnerships are essential to sustaining operations, from daily care to special programs like sterilisation drives. A special thank-you also goes to Laerskool Jongspan , who have shown incredible enthusiasm by taking part in the Santa Paws Box Project . Their compassion and involvement remind us that kindness begins at a young age, and spreads far beyond the classroom. A Community United for Animal Welfare Every act of support, whether through sterilisation, donation, or participation in community projects, brings the SPCA closer to its vision, a world where all animals live free from cruelty, neglect, and fear.

Dis eerder ’n “vat jou tyd”-spot.

  • Matlosana Issues Flooding Alert and Responds to Substation Vandalism Affecting Water Supply

The City of Matlosana has released two important public notices addressing current risks and disruptions affecting local communities. Rising river levels following dam releases have prompted a flooding warning, while a separate vandalism incident at an electrical substation has caused water supply interruptions in parts of the municipality. Residents are urged to stay informed and exercise caution as authorities respond to both situations. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations Flooding Warning Issued for Downstream and Low-Lying Areas Residents living near rivers, floodplains, and low-lying zones have been advised to remain alert as water levels continue to rise. Authorities have indicated that up to three additional gates may be opened daily  between 10:00 and 14:00, depending on inflow levels and dam safety requirements. Key Concerns Increased water flow along riverbanks Risk of flooding in low-lying communities Ongoing rainfall contributing to elevated river levels The City’s Disaster Management Team  will be monitoring water conditions throughout the rainy season to ensure early detection of hazards and timely response. Residents are urged to report emergencies or immediate threats by contacting the municipal call centre at: 018 464 2222  or 018 462 2222 . The disruption has caused water supply interruptions in parts of Alabama and Jouberton . Municipal teams from the water section and electrical department have been deployed to the site to repair the damage and restore power to the affected pumping system. Impact and Response Water outages in Alabama and portions of Jouberton Repairs underway to restore the pumping system Efforts prioritised to normalise supply as soon as possible The City condemned the vandalism, noting that such incidents place strain on service delivery and delay the restoration of essential services. Ongoing Monitoring and Community Support Both situations highlight the pressures on Matlosana’s infrastructure during the rainy season. Flood risks require continuous monitoring, while acts of vandalism intensify operational challenges faced by municipal teams. Residents are encouraged to remain cautious, report emergencies promptly, and stay updated via official municipal communication channels.
