- Boitshoko High School Gears Up for Newspaper Launch with Training from The Go-To Guy
A group of passionate learners from Boitshoko High School recently took their first steps toward launching a school newspaper and magazine, following an engaging and insightful media training session hosted at The Go-To Guy headquarters. Image: Tshepiso Mogorosi (The Go-To Guy) The initiative, still in its early stages, is set to mark a historic milestone for the school, empowering students with a voice and platform to tell their stories, share their opinions, and highlight issues that matter most to them and their community. Building Skills Before the Launch The training workshop was designed to introduce students to the core principles of journalism, storytelling, editing, photography, and magazine production. The learners, who are set to form the first editorial team, were immersed in both practical exercises and conceptual discussions on how to shape and manage a publication from the ground up. Facilitated by The Go-To Guy team, the session focused on real-world skills, including how to develop article ideas, conduct interviews, write compelling stories, and use layout software to design pages. Image: Tshepiso Mogorosi (The Go-To Guy) About Boitshoko High School Boitshoko High School, nestled in the heart of Ikageng, is known for its commitment to academic and social development. Established during South Africa’s post-apartheid years, the school has played a vital role in nurturing young minds in a township environment where education is often a beacon of hope. With a proud history of resilience and community support, Boitshoko continues to innovate in how it educates and engages its students. The upcoming newspaper and magazine project is a natural extension of the school’s values, encouraging learners to think critically, act responsibly, and participate in the storytelling of their own lives and neighborhoods. A Vision for Expression and Leadership The upcoming student publication is envisioned as a quarterly release featuring news, creative writing, student life stories, interviews with local figures, and topical commentary. Beyond honing literacy and communication skills, the project aims to develop leadership, teamwork, and a deeper sense of identity among learners. The Go-To Guy team will continue mentoring the learners in the lead-up to the official launch, helping them fine-tune their editorial vision and production workflow. As the students return to Boitshoko with notebooks full of ideas and new skills under their belts, the excitement is palpable. The school magazine may not have launched yet, but its foundation has been firmly laid. Image: Tshepiso Mogorosi (The Go-To Guy)

The Basics Date: Saturday, 25 October 2025 Venue: North West Portuguese Club, Dr Yusuf Dadoo Ave, Wilkoppies, Klerksdorp Tickets: R295 (Early Bird) Ticket Link: bit.ly/UncorkedKlerksdorp2025 Early bird tickets are on sale now, but heads up, they’re only around until 14 July 2025, and once they’re gone, they’re gone. What to Expect This year’s lineup is nothing short of full-bodied. Here’s what’s included in your ticket: A wine tasting glass Unlimited wine tastings (yes, really) Live performance by none other than Die Heuwels Fantasties The outdoor concert under the African sky is expected to be a highlight, but if that’s not enough to get you planning your outfit, there’s also the matter of 50+ wines from 12 different farms, all available for tasting at no extra cost. It's wine tasting on a mission. Featured Winery One of the standouts on the tasting trail will be Jakkalsvlei Private Cellar. Their wines come from the foothills of the Langeberg Mountains, and yes, they want you to "taste the landscape". Whether that’s terroir or just clever marketing, you'll be the judge with glass in hand. More Than Just Wine Besides the vino, food vendors will be serving up local fare to line stomachs and keep spirits high. Expect a lively festival atmosphere, which is event-speak for “you’re probably going to bump into someone you know”. The Fine Print This is a cashless event – so don’t bother fishing out that crumpled note in your jacket pocket. Your e-ticket is your golden ticket, flash it at the entrance. - Cachet Gemeente se Aandmark Soek Uitstallers – 'n Lekker Kans vir ’n Stalletjie of Twee
- Nail Tech Meets Bio Sculpture: A Short Course at Potchefstroom Academy - 25 August
Practical Skills Meet Professional Tools If you’ve ever thought your love of painting nails could become something more than just a party trick, here’s your chance. Potchefstroom Academy and SAAHST College are offering a Nail Technology short course, and it’s not just another crash course in French tips and glitter. Running from 25 August to 5 September 2025, this course puts tools in hand from day one, specifically, Bio Sculpture Gel kits, because the organisers clearly believe that good training starts with the real stuff. Limited Seats, Deadline Looms The class doesn’t run forever, and neither does the registration window. Applications close on 8 August 2025, so if you’ve been considering a change in direction (or a side hustle with serious polish), now’s the time to act. The course takes place at the Wellness Centre Potchefstroom, right on the campus of Potchefstroom Academy, so at least you’ll know where to find coffee between cuticle tutorials. What You Get Aside from a working knowledge of nail technology and hands-on practice with Bio Sculpture kits, the course promises a no-nonsense, skill-building experience. None of this "watch while we teach" fluff, it’s sleeves up, hands-on, file in one hand, UV lamp in the other. No word yet on whether they play soothing spa music or '90s house hits during class, but there’s only one way to find out. Booking & Contact Details There’s no online booking portal (yet), so you'll need to go a bit old-school and email or call to reserve a spot: Email: shortcourses@saahst.co.za Phone: 018-294-9000 WhatsApp: 064-624-1548 So if you’re up for a solid intro to nail technology that skips the fluff and goes straight for quality training, this might be your next move. Just don’t forget to book before 8 August, or risk missing out and watching everyone else’s Bio Sculpture selfies with envy. Nails, knowledge and maybe a new career, all in under two weeks. Not bad, Potch. Not bad at all.

Set beneath clear winter skies, the event offered a spectacular mix of aerial displays, family entertainment, and local flair. From early morning, the skies were alive with daring aerobatics, beginning with formation flying by colorful Extra 300s and vintage Pitts Specials. The Flying Lions’ Harvard trainers impressed with synchronized smoke-filled passes, while the legendary P-51D Mustang “Mustang Sally” drew loud cheers with its roaring low fly-bys. A rare dual performance between this WWII warbird and an Extra 330 stunned the crowd with its mix of historical power and modern aerobatic precision. One of the day’s most dramatic highlights came from stunt pilot Scully Levin, who flawlessly landed a Piper Cub on a moving truck—a stunt that had the audience gasping before erupting in applause. The sleek Aero L-39 Albatros jet thrilled with high-speed low passes, while local glider pilot Oscar brought a peaceful contrast, soaring gracefully in his JS-3 sailplane with smoke trails and soft music adding to the serene moment. Beyond the skies, the airshow doubled as a bustling community festival. Food trucks dished out everything from burgers to traditional boerewors, and families enjoyed picnic spots, face painting, and a toddler play area. Vendor tents featured pilot training info, aircraft displays, and aviation merchandise. A charity stall, craft vendors, and promotional giveaways added to the festive atmosphere. As the sun set, the event’s perfect balance of adrenaline and relaxation left lasting impressions. Social media buzzed with videos of Mustang Sally and Levin’s iconic landing, capturing the spirit of a day filled with wonder, heritage, and togetherness. The 2025 Potchefstroom Airshow proved to be more than an aviation event—it was a joyful community experience, blending high-flying thrills with grounded, family-friendly fun. Promosa Electricity Woes Spark Rising Tensions in Local Communities Communities in and around Promosa are increasingly alarmed by frequent power outages and the rise of illegal electricity connections in informal settlements. Residents, especially those near Ext 5, Rockville, Marikana, Baipei, Hillside, and Promosa Central, have voiced their frustration on social media, reporting damaged appliances, overloaded transformers, and unstable power supply caused by unsafe, unauthorized connections. Originally a desperate measure for those lacking formal access, illegal connections have now become a source of community tension and potential conflict. Many residents feel torn between empathy for those in need and concern over the growing safety risks and lack of accountability. There are rising fears that, if left unaddressed, the situation could escalate into violence or deeper community divisions. Social media posts reflect rising anger, with some residents blaming municipal inaction and even referencing claims that former JB Marks Mayor Gaba had condoned illegal connections during a past visit. Although municipal leaders have held meetings and promised to electrify informal areas properly, delays in implementation have only worsened the public’s frustration. Tensions have already led to incidents of property damage, and local leaders are urging urgent intervention. The community’s call is clear: they need communication, action, and real solutions before the technical crisis becomes a deeper social one — marked by eroded trust and rising unrest. Cleaning Up the Kasi: How Reafenya Projects & Maintenance is Transforming Ikageng In the heart of Ikageng, a young entrepreneur is turning dust into dreams. What started as a response to local demand has now grown into a fast-rising cleaning and home services company. Meet Katlego Mota, the founder of Reafenya Projects & Maintenance (Pty) Ltd, a proudly kasi-based business making a powerful impact. "I started my business on the 6th of December 2024," says Katlego. The idea came from seeing how many people in Ikageng needed help: “A lot of people here want their yards cleaned, but they don’t always have the time or tools. I decided to step in.” That decision became the foundation of a business built for the people, by one of their own. Katlego’s team comes from the same streets he grew up on. “I found my team right here in my kasi,” he says. “We use trusted products like Domestos and liquid soap, and I’m still in the process of training them to keep quality high.” Katlego proudly explains what sets Reafenya Projects & Maintenance apart: “My service is the best. It’s affordable and always leaves a positive impact on my customers.” The company serves mainly residents in and around Double Skhona and continues to grow through word of mouth and trusted work. Reafenya Projects & Maintenance offers a wide range of services, making it a one-stop solution for kasi households. “I got my first customer from a lady mo kasi at Di Loune,” Katlego recalls. But getting regular clients remains a daily mission. “I have to market my business every day. That’s part of the hustle.” Katlego’s vision is bigger than just cleaning yards. “I want to grow and expand. I’m planning to add a fast-food restaurant and eventually build a company office so I can hire more people from my kasi.” Above all, Katlego enjoys what he does. He believes in hard work and staying focused: “Always strive and focus on what you do.” Advertisement - Flo-Tek Trompie Artificial Grass Trompie Artificial Grass is available at Flo-Tek NW, a trusted supplier of garden and infrastructure products in Potchefstroom and surrounds. - Asambo’s Annual Blood Drive: The Lifesaving Side of Giving Back - 25 July
Asambo Giving Back is calling on the good people of Potchefstroom to roll up their sleeves, literally. On 25 July 2025, the non-profit is hosting one of its annual blood drives, and it’s all happening at 18 Goetz Street, right in the heart of town. The Why: Blood, Sweat and... Just Blood Actually South Africa’s blood supply is a bit like a group chat, if no one contributes, nothing happens. Donating blood is a small act with big consequences. A single unit of blood can save up to three lives, since it's separated into red blood cells, plasma and platelets. So even if you’re squeamish at the sight of a paper cut, rest assured your donation could keep someone alive on the operating table, or help someone with a chronic illness carry on with life. The When and Where Date: 25 July 2025 Venue: 18 Goetz Street, Potchefstroom Time: (not specified, but maybe don’t show up after sunset just in case) Who’s Behind It? Asambo Giving Back might sound like a newbie NPO, but it's been around since 2017, and operating informally for even longer. The organisation is an offshoot of the ASAMBO Group of Companies, created to give back to the communities that have supported the business over the years. Their mantra? "If you wait until you can do everything for everyone, instead of something for someone, you’ll end up doing nothing for no-one." Wise words. And very on-brand. Over time, they’ve raised funds for charities and lent a hand to whoever needed it, big or small, without the bells and whistles. How to Get in Touch Got questions? Want to volunteer? Or maybe you just want to say hi? Here's how you can find them: Website: www.asambogivingback.co.za Facebook: facebook.com/ASAMBOgivingback Phone: 018-297-7285 Email: asambo.givingback@gmail.com Show up, donate, and walk away knowing you’ve made a difference. There’s no music festival or food truck convoy here. It’s just people showing up for people, which is kind of refreshing, actually. So mark your calendar, Potch. Asambo Giving Back will be waiting, cool drink and cookie in hand.
- The Go-To Guy’s Job Board: Your Gateway to Local Jobs in Potchefstroom
The job search can be daunting, but in Potchefstroom, The Go-To Guy’s Job Board is making it easier and more community-oriented than ever. This platform serves as a one-stop hub for local job opportunities, from part-time student gigs to full-time professional roles – all within the Potchefstroom area. Blending a professional approach with a casual, friendly user experience, The Go-To Guy’s Job Board appeals to both job seekers and employers by focusing on what matters most: connecting local talent with local businesses in a convenient and supportive way. In this article, we’ll explore the variety of jobs on offer (spanning General jobs, Student jobs, and more), the platform’s unique features (like an online CV upload section), and the benefits of using a local Potchefstroom-centric job platform as part of The Go-To Guy’s wider ecosystem. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations A Wide Range of Jobs – From Students to Professionals One of the first things you’ll notice is the sheer variety of job listings available on The Go-To Guy’s Job Board. The platform is organized into specialized categories (or “boards”) that cater to every employment niche, from students to skilled professionals . This means whether you’re a university student looking for weekend work or an experienced professional seeking a new career opportunity, there’s likely a dedicated section for you. The Go-To Guy’s Job Board consists of multiple categories, including: General Jobs: Covers standard full-time and part-time positions across various industries (from admin roles to technical jobs) – the bread-and-butter job listings for the average job seeker. Au Pair & Caregivers: Focused on childcare and caregiver positions, ideal for those seeking au pair roles or families in need of caregivers. Domestic Workers & Gardeners: Listings for housekeeping, domestic help, and gardening jobs, helping local households connect with trusted workers. Students & Temp Jobs: Tailored for students and temporary workers, featuring internships, holiday jobs, and part-time opportunities perfect for gaining experience while studying. Self-Employment Opportunities: A section for entrepreneurs or gig-seekers, highlighting local freelance opportunities and business ventures. These categories (and others) make it easy to filter opportunities based on your skills and needs. For example, a student can head straight to the Student and Temp jobs section, while someone interested in home-care roles can browse the Au Pair/Caregiver listings. By segmenting the board into targeted categories, The Go-To Guy ensures that Potchefstroom’s talent doesn’t go unnoticed or unutilized , every job seeker can find a niche that fits them. In fact, the job board’s categories range from General jobs to Au Pair, domestic work, garden work, and dedicated boards for students and temp workers , covering virtually the entire spectrum of local employment. This comprehensive approach is a big plus for the community: it keeps local job-hunters of all kinds engaged, and it helps employers reach the right candidates quickly. User-Friendly Features Connecting Job Seekers and Employers Beyond its breadth of listings, The Go-To Guy’s Job Board shines in how it brings together job seekers and employers with user-friendly features. The platform isn’t just a static list of jobs, it’s an interactive space with tools that make the hiring process smoother on both sides: Online CV Upload & Resume Database: Perhaps the standout feature is a dedicated section where job seekers can upload their CVs/resumes online. By registering your CV on the site, you become part of a database that local employers can browse when looking for candidates . This means opportunities can come looking for you even when you’re not actively applying. It’s a two-way street: job seekers showcase their skills and experience, and employers gain access to a pool of Potchefstroom-based talent at their fingertips. (Bonus: because everything is digital, there’s no need to print stacks of CVs, an eco-friendly perk that the platform proudly notes, as the digital approach removes the need for printed CVs .) Easy Local Job Posting: For employers and small businesses in Potchefstroom, The Go-To Guy makes it effortless to post new job openings. The site provides a clear “Post New Jobs” interface where employers can list vacancies in minutes, specifying the town (Potchefstroom and surrounds), job category, and requirements. This simplicity encourages even the smallest local businesses or startups to advertise positions, knowing they’ll reach a local audience. No more getting lost on big national job sites, here, Potchefstroom jobs are front and center. Resources for Applicants and Employers: The platform goes a step further by providing helpful resources and services that streamline the hiring process. For instance, there are downloadable Interview Sheet templates for employers to use during candidate interviews , ensuring a consistent and fair interview process. There’s even a link to Polygraph/Background check services for roles that might require extra screening, a unique offering you won’t find on typical job sites. On the job seeker side, The Go-To Guy’s blog features a series called “5 Local Job Seekers to Know,” which periodically spotlights local candidates who have uploaded their CVs . This not only gives job seekers extra exposure (how exciting to have your CV noticed in a blog post!) but also gives employers a closer look at standout individuals in the community. In short, the platform actively works to connect the dots between candidates and companies. All of these features reflect a platform designed with a personal touch. It’s professional in its capabilities (CV databases, structured forms, etc.) yet maintains a casual, community-driven feel through social groups and local highlights. Job seekers feel supported, you can easily apply to jobs and even get your resume in front of employers proactively, and employers get efficient tools to find and vet candidates. It’s a win-win scenario that speeds up hiring in a friendly way. Benefits of a Local Platform for Potchefstroom Why use a local job board like The Go-To Guy’s, as opposed to a big generic job site? The answer lies in the tailored benefits for the Potchefstroom community: Hyper-Local Focus: The Go-To Guy’s Job Board is all about Potchefstroom and its surrounding areas . This local focus means that every job posted is relevant to people in this community, you won’t have to wade through listings in Johannesburg or Cape Town. For job seekers, that saves time and brings peace of mind that opportunities are nearby. nFor employers, it means your listing is reaching local candidates who are available to start without the complications of long-distance relocation. The platform’s creators emphasize that Potchefstroom is their core focus and passion, and it shows in the content. In fact, the job board is a byproduct of The Go-To Guy’s broader mission to add value to the Potchefstroom community, which is why they host these job boards that attract thousands of viewers each month . The popularity of the site within the region is a good sign that your posting or application is getting seen by the right people. Faster Connections and Higher Response Rates: Because the audience is concentrated locally, job matching tends to happen faster. Think about it, if you apply for a job through this board, the employer knows you’re right there in town, available for an interview on short notice. Likewise, when an employer posts a vacancy, they can quickly line up applicants who can literally drop by for a chat. The local context removes a lot of friction from the hiring process. Every position filled through the platform feeds back into strengthening the local workforce. As the Go-To Guy team puts it, “Every job listing filled, every local business supported, and every service employed feeds back into our community, setting off a ripple effect of economic growth.” Using the platform doesn’t just benefit individuals, it benefits Potchefstroom as a whole, by keeping jobs and skills circulating within the community. Community Trust and Networking: A local platform fosters a sense of trust and familiarity that large-scale sites can’t match. Employers and job seekers browsing The Go-To Guy’s site know that it’s built by locals, for locals, which adds a layer of credibility. People are more likely to spread the word about opportunities they see here, for instance, a member of the Potchefstroom Facebook job group might tag a friend if a suitable job pops up. This community-driven networking can lead to opportunities you might not hear about elsewhere. It’s not unusual to find that you have a mutual connection with a potential employer or candidate via this platform, thanks to Potchefstroom’s close-knit community. The job board essentially leverages that “everyone knows everyone” small-city advantage in a modern way. By prioritizing local talent and businesses, the platform celebrates the unique spirit of Potchefstroom and reinforces a supportive network . You’re not just another face in a huge national database; you’re part of a community hub. In summary, using a local platform like The Go-To Guy’s Job Board means less noise, more signal. It’s all about Potch, and that focus can greatly increase your chances of finding the right fit, whether you’re hiring or job-hunting – while also contributing to the community’s growth. Part of The Go-To Guy’s Wider Ecosystem The Job Board is a key feature of The Go-To Guy, but it’s even more powerful when you consider how it integrates into The Go-To Guy’s wider ecosystem of local services. The Go-To Guy (true to its name) aims to be the go-to platform for almost anything a Potchefstroom resident or business might need. This means that while you’re exploring job opportunities, you’re also just a click away from other useful local resources on the same site: Business Directory: The platform hosts a comprehensive directory of local businesses. Looking for a plumber, a tutor, or a favorite restaurant’s contact info? The Go-To Guy likely has them listed. The site’s initial focus was on listing businesses in Potchefstroom to help locals find trusted service providers . For employers, this means if you list your business on the directory and post jobs, you increase your visibility in multiple ways on the platform. Potch Gazette (Local News & Blog): The Go-To Guy features a blog/news section known as the Potch Gazette , with updates on community news, events, and stories. This is where you’ll find anything from local sports highlights to community success stories. It’s a fun place to stay informed about what’s happening around town. For example, the Gazette has posts under various talks (categories) and even business and career-related updates. The presence of a “Blog and News” section alongside the job board adds context to the local job market, you might read about a new company coming to town or an entrepreneur success story, which could lead you to new job leads or networking opportunities. Property Board: If you’re moving for a job (or looking to relocate within Potchefstroom), the site’s property section is a handy tool. It lists properties for sale or rent and local real estate agents . The integration of a property board means The Go-To Guy can help you find a new job and a new home. It’s all part of making settling into a local opportunity that much easier. Community Events & Groups: The Go-To Guy’s ecosystem also includes community-driven sections such as an Events Calendar for Potchefstroom and even niche groups (like hobby clubs or support groups). According to the site’s layout, you can find things like an Events Calendar, Community Contacts, “Buy & Sell” groups, and more . This shows how the job board lives within a broader community platform. For instance, after finding a job, you might use the site to discover local events to attend on weekends, or join a “Lift Club” if you need to carpool to work (yes, that’s a feature too!). It’s all interconnected. Mobile App and Accessibility: The Go-To Guy platform is also available as a mobile app (on iOS and Android), making all these features, including the job board, accessible on the go. This is great for job seekers who want to get instant notifications of new postings or for employers who need to respond to applicants quickly. The integration of the job board into the mobile app and the overall site means you carry the entire Potchefstroom ecosystem in your pocket. In essence, using The Go-To Guy’s Job Board plugs you into a whole network of local information and services. It’s not just a job portal; it’s part of a larger Potchefstroom community platform. TamiJax Inflatable Park is back, and they're looking for vendors. With a string of winter events lined up across four venues, the organisers are calling on small businesses to come join the fun. But there’s one catch, if you’re hoping to sell alcohol, rather sit this one out. What’s On Offer This year’s Winter Inflatable Park promises over 12 activities aimed at all ages. The lineup includes: Bounce House Climbing Wall Quad Bikes Bull Ride Bungee Trampolines It’s a mobile inflatable adventure park, think jumping castles on steroids, with something for every kid, teenager, and overenthusiastic parent. Dates and Venues The park will be setting up shop on the following dates: Vaal High: 25–27 July Ferdinand Postma High: 8–10 August Waverley Girls High: 28–29 August Lekker Kuier Fees: 28–30 August Yes, that’s a full winter calendar, so vendors keen on making a turn should pick their spots wisely. Who Can Apply? Limited space is available for food vendors (and no booze, sorry boet), but all other stall types are welcome. That includes: Crafts Clothing Toys Sweets Décor Basically anything that doesn’t come in a bottle and doesn’t need a liquor licence So whether you're selling handmade earrings or sugar-coated jelly babies, there's room for you. How to Apply Prospective vendors can apply online using the form below: 👉 Vendor Application Form (Pro tip: Don’t wait too long, these spots fill up faster than a jumping castle on a Saturday morning.)
