  • Glasfit Potchefstroom October Update: Bringing Windscreen Repair to You

As October unfolds in Potchefstroom, Glasfit Potchefstroom has exciting news for local drivers and homeowners. We’ve quietly launched a new mobile windscreen chip repair service  at the end of September, meaning you no longer have to come to us, we’ll come to you. Image : Facebook Glasfit Potchefstroom One of our certified technicians can meet you wherever is most convenient: whether your car is stranded on the roadside, parked at your office, or in your driveway at home. This on-site service literally brings “the workshop to you,” echoing the industry motto of 100% mobile convenience . In practice, that means a quick on-the-spot fix so a tiny chip never gets a chance to turn into a costly crack . And as part of South Africa’s leading Glasfit network, with over three decades of glass repair experience, we’re backing this new service with the same safety-first expertise customers have trusted for years . Mobile Chip Repairs: Convenience Wherever You Are Imagine you’re late for work and notice a fresh chip in your windscreen. Instead of putting your day on hold, just give us a call. Our technician will arrive with a fully equipped mobile repair kit. Using SABS-approved resin, we’ll fill that chip on the spot (often in minutes ) and have you safely back on the road with minimal delay . In fact, one glass specialist notes that chip repairs can be completed “in as little as 10 minutes”. Even our case studies show that fixing a chip takes only about 30 minutes (versus 90 minutes or more for a full windscreen replacement). Because we repair rather than replace whenever possible, it’s faster, cheaper, and even greener for your car . Roadside relief:   If a loose stone or pothole cracks your windscreen on the open road, we can usually be there quickly to fix the chip on-site . Prompt repair restores your view and prevents the tiny nick from growing into a larger crack (or spider-web) without warning . Office or school pickup:   Too busy to drive to a workshop? We can meet you in your work or school parking lot. Simply park your car and let us handle the rest; in minutes you’ll be back on schedule . Home and family:   Even at home we’ve got you covered. If a stray ball breaks a window, or hailstorms chips your windshield in the driveway, just call us. Our mobile crew can repair vehicle glass in your garage or replace a cracked living-room window pane without disrupting your day. By adding this service, Glasfit Potchefstroom makes glass repair as easy as calling a friend. We want every customer in Potch to feel safe and stress-free, knowing that expert help is just one phone call away. Image : Facebook Glasfit Potchefstroom Why Mobile Repair Makes Sense Early chip repair keeps you safe and saves money. A small chip may seem harmless, but all it can take is a bump, pothole or even a quick temperature change to spread that chip into a large crack . We encourage drivers to fix chips before  they become bigger problems . In practical terms, repairing the chip now means avoiding a full windscreen replacement later. It’s both time and cost-effective: our repair process gets you back on the road in a fraction of the time (often under half an hour ) and at a fraction of the cost of replacing the glass . Insurance policies often cover chip repairs fully, so you may pay nothing for this quick fix. And because the original windscreen stays in place, the repair is more environmentally friendly too . In short, mobile chip repair is practical: you save on towing or downtime, keep your car legally roadworthy, and often avoid any insurance excess. Our friendly technicians will explain the process in plain language, and you’ll be back on your way in no time. Automotive Glass Services Our mobile service complements the full suite of automotive glass  offerings at Glasfit Potchefstroom. Whether it’s a tiny chip or a shattered windshield, we handle it all. We use SABS-certified safety glass and precision techniques to ensure every repair or replacement meets your vehicle manufacturer’s standards . For example, we repair minor windscreen chips (restoring your view and strength) and replace windscreens when needed - all with high-quality glass that fits your car perfectly . If the damage is beyond repair (or covers the driver’s line of sight), we’ll fit a new windscreen quickly and efficiently. Importantly, Glasfit Potchefstroom also replaces side and rear vehicle windows (which cannot be repaired once broken) using exact-match glass . Every installation is done by certified techs, so your vehicle remains secure, quiet, and looking like new. In practice, this means if you have a crack, chip or smashed window, you don’t have to visit multiple shops. Whether it’s the family car, your work fleet, or even a small truck, Glasfit Potchefstroom’s auto-glass specialists have the right glass on hand or on the truck to fix it. Image : Facebook Glasfit Potchefstroom Residential & Commercial Glass Solutions Glasfit Potchefstroom isn’t just about cars, we’re also your local experts for home and building glass . • Rotaract Klerksdorp Shines a Light on Local Changemakers

October is Economic & Community Development Month , and the Rotaract Club of Klerksdorp is celebrating the people and organisations who keep our city’s social fabric strong. Rather than simply posting tributes, Rotaract is putting practical help front and centre, connecting needs to givers, neighbours to resources, and everyday goodwill to the places where it can change a life. This feature is the first in a series spotlighting local partners who are building dignity, safety, and opportunity across Klerksdorp and the wider North West Province. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations Klerksdorp is a place of grit and heart. We feel it at school sports days, community clean-ups, church bake sales, and small businesses serving customers by name. Rotaract Klerksdorp lives inside that spirit. As a youth-led service organisation affiliated with Rotary, the club mobilises volunteers, amplifies trusted charities, and turns compassion into action. This October, Rotaract highlights three organisations, Daphne Lee Centre, SAVF Rethabile Children’s Home, and RATA Social Services , whose steady, local work deserves both recognition and support. Image: Rotaract Klerksdorp Daphne Lee Centre: A Homely Place of Safety for Adults with Disabilities Founded on 3 April 1981  by Sr. Daphne Lee , the Daphne Lee Centre began with a simple, radical belief: adults with physical or mental challenges deserve not just care, but community. Today, that belief is lived out in warm, homelike routines, socialisation, creative activities, and mental stimulation that enrich daily life and protect dignity. The centre is known for intergenerational programmes and community events where residents are not on the margins; they’re at the centre. Staff and volunteers nurture independence while cultivating a sense of belonging. In recent months, the centre has also embarked on room upgrades and renovations  to improve comfort and accessibility, work that matters deeply when a room is not only a bedroom, but a refuge. How you can help Daphne Lee Centre Donate essentials:  Curtains, bedding, and other room comforts go a long way toward creating a homely environment. Financial contributions:  Even small monthly amounts sustain renovations, programmes, and daily operations. Get in touch:   018 462 4366  | admin@daphneleecentre.co.za When you support Daphne Lee Centre, you are not just meeting needs; you’re affirming that adults with disabilities deserve vibrant, connected lives. That message echoes well beyond one facility’s walls. Image: Rotaract Klerksdorp SAVF Rethabile Children’s Home: Stability and Care for North West’s Children SAVF Rethabile Children’s Home , established in 1953  as the first SAVF Children’s Home, provides round-the-clock, comprehensive care to 150 children  across the North West Province. Their work is as broad as it is tender: primary healthcare , therapeutic support , and development programmes  designed to build confidence, nurture resilience, and open doors to a healthier future. Children arrive at Rethabile with stories that would stop most adults in their tracks. What they find is dependable routine, professional support, and people who refuse to let a hard beginning decide the rest of the story. The team works closely with social workers, teachers, and medical professionals so that care is holistic, dignified, and safe. Like many welfare organisations, Rethabile has felt the shock of recent funding cuts by the North West Department of Social Development . Essential services are at risk just as the need remains high. In moments like these, community support isn’t optional, it’s decisive. How you can help SAVF Rethabile Donate funds or goods:  Contributions keep meals served, medical appointments met, and therapeutic work on track. Partner your business or service club:  Sustained support, monthly or quarterly, helps Rethabile plan confidently. Enquiries and support:   018 464 1888  | rethabileCYCC.reception@savf.co.za A safe bed, a guided homework session, a trusted adult checking in, these are ordinary acts with extraordinary consequences. Your support helps transform crisis into stability for children who deserve nothing less. Image: Rotaract Klerksdorp RATA Social Services: Strengthening Families, Protecting the Vulnerable For 76 years , since 1948 , RATA Social Services  has stood beside families through the hardest chapters. Working across Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and North West , RATA provides counselling , parenting programmes , adoption services , and specialised support for the elderly , abused women , and people with disabilities . In the past year alone, more than 54,000 people  benefited from RATA’s interventions. RATA’s footprint is wide because family challenges are complex, addiction, neglect, trauma, and poverty often converge. Skilled social workers, community partners, and volunteers help families stabilise, heal, and rebuild. From emergency assistance to long-term casework, the organisation meets people where they are, without judgement. RATA, too, is confronting the reality of funding cuts by the North West Department of Social Development , with a direct impact on counselling hours, outreach, and protective services. At stake is not just programming, it’s the safety net that catches people before a crisis becomes catastrophe. How you can help RATA Social Services Donate online:   https://pay.yoco.com/rata-social-services-npc Offer corporate support:  Sponsorships, staff volunteer days, and in-kind services extend RATA’s reach. Contact the local office:   018 462 1519  | klerksdorp@rata.org.za When communities rally around RATA, they help ensure that abuse does not go unchallenged, that parents get tools to succeed, and that vulnerable neighbours are never left to struggle alone. Why Rotaract Is Focusing on Economic & Community Development Economic development is not only about jobs and infrastructure; it’s about the human conditions that make opportunity possible : safety, health, education, stable families, and accessible care. The organisations above invest in those conditions every day. Rotaract Klerksdorp’s October focus is a practical blueprint for development: support the caregivers, stabilise the home, and you stabilise the community . Rotaract’s role is part amplifier, part matchmaker. The club uses its network to: Broadcast needs clearly  so citizens and businesses can respond quickly and meaningfully. Coordinate volunteers  for drives, makeovers, and ongoing support. Build partnerships  between service clubs, churches, schools, and companies so help is sustainable. Highlight dignity , ensuring the people served are seen as neighbours with strengths, not numbers in a report. This month also recognises that many charities are under severe financial pressure . Fixed costs rise, public funding tightens, and demand grows. That reality can feel daunting, until we remember how far local generosity can go. A Saturday spent painting a room at Daphne Lee Centre. A debit order to Rethabile that covers toiletries for a dormitory. A workplace fundraiser that underwrites RATA’s counselling sessions for survivors. None of it is theoretical; all of it is immediate, tangible relief. Image: Rotaract Klerksdorp Final thought Klerksdorp’s story is written by the people who show up for one another. This October, Rotaract Klerksdorp is inviting all of us to pick up the pen. Whether you give, volunteer, or simply pass the word along, you’re part of a chain of kindness that strengthens our city. The heroes featured here, residents with disabilities finding joy in community, children growing in safety and hope, families rebuilding after hardship, are not far away. They are our neighbours. Let’s keep showing up for them. #TheGoToGuy #RotaractKlerksdorp #EconomicDevelopmentMonth #CommunityDevelopment #DaphneLeeCentre #SAVFRethabile #RATASocialServices #KlerksdorpCares #NorthWestProvince #PeopleOfAction #ServiceAboveSelf #SupportLocal 🙏🌟🤝🏽🏠🧒🏽🛡️🛏️🎨💚📞

  • SUPA Rubber Potchefstroom: Your Local Leak-Proofing Partner

Weather in Potchefstroom can be unpredictable, but leaks and dampness don’t have to be. SUPA Rubber, a proudly South African brand, offers an innovative latex-based  waterproofing sealant that’s now available right here in town . Image : Facebook SUPA Rubber This eco-conscious “liquid rubber” coat goes on like paint and forms a tough, flexible membrane on virtually any surface . From rooftops to swimming pools, gutters to garden ponds, a single coat of SUPA Rubber creates a seamless barrier against water ingress. In fact, the Potchefstroom branch features a full palette of 19 vibrant colors and even offers nationwide delivery , so you can get lasting leak protection without leaving town. Versatile Waterproofing for Every Surface SUPA Rubber’s core product is remarkably versatile. It protects over a decade with a single coat , and is used by both home and business owners to seal up leaks of all kinds. Key applications include: Roofs & Balconies:   Keep tiled or flat roofs watertight and balconies dry. Pools & Ponds:   Form a 100% waterproof liner inside pools or garden ponds, resisting chemicals and even remaining fish-safe  once cured . Gutters & Pipelines:   Seal gutters, downpipes and industrial piping to stop drips and corrosion. Floors & Walls:   Waterproof garage floors, basement walls or exterior walls subject to rain splash. Each of these surfaces can be coated quickly. The latex formula is applied with a roller, brush or spray and dries in a matter of hours . Once cured, it stays permanently flexible (so it won’t crack when the building shifts) and resists sun, rain, and harsh weather . In practice, that means you won’t be re-waterproofing your roof or pool every year, one job lasts 10+ years before any major touch-up is needed . Durable, Eco-Friendly Protection What sets SUPA Rubber apart is its long-lasting, eco-conscious formula. Unlike cheap paints that can flake or crack, this rubberised coating bonds with the surface to form a continuous film. It remains flexible and intact through freeze-thaw cycles and heat, offering “lasting protection” under harsh conditions . Technically, SUPA Rubber is a poly-vinyl-butyral (PVB) latex , a non-toxic, solvent-free polymer. Once cured, it emits no harmful fumes , so it’s safe for homes, workers and even fish in a pond . In other words, you get heavy-duty waterproofing without the chemical downsides. This environmental safety makes it popular for applications like fountains, water features or any place where leaks could harm landscaping or wildlife. With such durability, SUPA Rubber also saves money long-term. The coating often exceeds 10 years of service, which means property owners avoid frequent re-sealing and repairs . As the Potchefstroom team notes, this longevity “spares property owners the expense of frequent repairs”. In fact, SUPA Rubber is promoted as a cost-effective investment: the initial paint-like application pays off by preventing water damage for a decade or more. Image : Facebook SUPA Rubber Serving Homes and Businesses in Potchefstroom Supa Rubber Potchefstroom isn’t just for DIYers, it’s tailored for everyone  who needs reliable leak-proofing. • Beyond Medicine: How Lenmed’s ‘We Are Lenmed – Leading with Purpose and Compassion’ Inspires a New Era of Leadership and Care

In the ever-evolving world of healthcare, Lenmed  continues to stand out, not only for its clinical excellence but for its deep sense of humanity, teamwork, and purpose. Recently, Lenmed has undergone a meaningful period of reflection, taking time to pause, listen, and redefine its values in a way that reflects who they are, where they’re going, and how they’ll get there, together. This transformation wasn’t just about rebranding or rewriting statements. It was about reconnecting with purpose, about translating words into commitments that every doctor, nurse, manager, and support staff member could live by each day. A Future Built on Purpose Lenmed’s leadership has set out to create an environment where excellence is measured not only in outcomes but also in compassion, teamwork, and innovation. Through its refreshed values, the organisation aims to grow stronger as a collective, ensuring that every patient encounter and every employee experience reflects the heart of who Lenmed truly is. At the foundation of this vision are six core values, each one representing a powerful promise to patients, staff, and the communities Lenmed serves. 💗 We Care – Putting Human Connection First For Lenmed, care begins long before treatment starts. The group’s people-first approach ensures that every patient feels seen, heard, and valued. It’s about empathy over efficiency , about building trust through kindness and understanding. Every nurse’s reassuring word, every doctor’s careful explanation, and every administrator’s patient assistance echoes a shared belief: people come first . At Lenmed, healthcare is more than healing, it’s human connection in action. 🧡 We Serve – With Integrity and Dedication Integrity forms the heartbeat of Lenmed’s service. Across all its hospitals, the organisation serves patients with honesty, transparency, and respect. Whether it’s through ethical decision-making or upholding the highest standards of care, Lenmed’s teams demonstrate that true service is grounded in trust . Serving with integrity means ensuring that every decision prioritises the patient’s best interest. It’s this moral compass that keeps Lenmed grounded, ensuring that care remains both compassionate and credible. 💚 We Grow – Unlocking Human Potential Growth is more than a goal at Lenmed, it’s a continuous journey. By investing in professional development, mentorship, and education, Lenmed empowers its staff to unlock their full potential. Doctors are encouraged to pursue specialisations, nurses are trained in advanced techniques, and young professionals are given opportunities to lead. This commitment ensures that every individual not only contributes to the organisation’s success but also experiences personal and professional fulfillment along the way. When people grow, so does the organisation, and Lenmed’s focus on nurturing talent ensures a future where innovation and care go hand in hand. 💛 We Collaborate – Creating Shared Value Collaboration lies at the center of Lenmed’s success. In healthcare, no single person works in isolation, and Lenmed embodies this belief through seamless teamwork and partnership. From hospital boards to frontline caregivers, collaboration ensures that decisions are informed, inclusive, and impactful. Beyond internal teamwork, Lenmed also partners with external stakeholders, from medical suppliers and training institutions to local communities, to create shared value  that strengthens the health ecosystem as a whole. By working together, Lenmed amplifies its impact, demonstrating that progress is a collective effort . 💜 We Innovate – Driving Excellence and Impact In an age where healthcare evolves rapidly, Lenmed remains at the forefront of change through innovation. The organisation continuously adopts modern technologies, digital systems, and forward-thinking medical practices to enhance care delivery. But innovation at Lenmed is more than new equipment or digital upgrades, it’s a mindset. It’s about asking “How can we do this better?”  and never settling for the status quo. Through creativity and adaptability, Lenmed continues to improve patient outcomes while ensuring healthcare remains accessible and effective for all. 💙 We Deliver – Achieving Exceptional Outcomes Every action at Lenmed is guided by the commitment to deliver measurable results. From clinical excellence to patient satisfaction, the focus remains on delivering consistent, high-quality outcomes that uphold the organisation’s reputation for excellence. To deliver means to follow through, to transform promises into achievements. Whether it’s reducing waiting times, improving recovery rates, or enhancing patient experience, Lenmed’s dedication ensures that excellence is not an aspiration, but a standard. A Culture of Clarity and Commitment These values: Care, Serve, Grow, Collaborate, Innovate, and Deliver, are more than guiding principles; they are Lenmed’s living commitments. They define how its people behave, how they lead, and how they connect with the communities they serve. Each value reinforces the others, creating a culture of clarity and purpose that energises the organisation at every level. ✨ Final Thoughts  ✨ The future of Lenmed is bright, purposeful, and people-centered . By aligning its actions with these six commitments, the healthcare group continues to strengthen its legacy of compassionate leadership and medical excellence. Lenmed isn’t just a hospital group, it’s a family of professionals united by a shared mission: to make healthcare more human, more innovative, and more impactful than ever before. • Weekly Community Report: Infrastructure, Safety, and Local Updates

This week’s community communications across various JB Marks municipal wards highlighted several ongoing service delivery matters and local initiatives. Information was gathered from multiple ward WhatsApp groups to provide residents with a clear overview of municipal operations, maintenance progress, and neighbourhood activities. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations Infrastructure and Maintenance Progress Multiple wards reported updates on essential municipal services, particularly regarding refuse removal and water infrastructure. In several areas, delays in refuse collection were attributed to the temporary unavailability of municipal trucks. Supervisors assured residents that operations were rescheduled and that normal collection routes would resume within the week. Residents without municipal wheelie bins were advised that their areas would still be serviced as per the regular schedule. Significant progress was also reported in Ward 15, where municipal teams completed repairs on major water leaks along Soetdoring Street. The Parks and Infrastructure Departments coordinated their work to ensure access and repair efficiency, with residents noting improved water pressure following completion. In Ward 3, residents raised repeated concerns about water leaks in Paryslaan, Williams, and Unie streets. Community members continued to report leaks daily to maintain collective pressure for resolution. Updated contact numbers for municipal electricity, water, and sewer departments were shared to help streamline future reporting. Safety, Cleanliness, and Community Action Safety and public space management remained top of mind for residents. Reports of cable theft around Plein and Kamp streets prompted discussions on possible preventive measures, including smoother utility poles and active neighbourhood watch patrols. Residents also engaged in ongoing discussions regarding the trimming of overgrown municipal trees obstructing driveways. While some opted to manage low branches independently, others were advised to liaise with the Parks Department for official trimming and removal. In Ward 7, plans were announced for two upcoming weekends of pothole repairs and street sign restoration. Community members were encouraged to assist through donations or volunteering time, reinforcing civic participation and neighbourhood improvement efforts. Ward and Political Developments Several wards also communicated updates regarding local political and administrative activities. The Democratic Alliance (DA) announced upcoming Annual General Meetings and branch elections for Wards 4 and 15, encouraging members and residents to participate in leadership nominations. Notices included details of positions open for election and the event’s location at the DA Provincial Office in Potchefstroom. Community and Social Highlights Beyond service delivery matters, residents shared messages of encouragement and local updates. Ward 3 extended well wishes to matric learners beginning their final examinations, acknowledging both students and supportive parents. In lighter neighbourhood news, lost and found pets drew attention within several groups. A missing dog named “Vlekkie” (also known as Peppie) was safely reunited with its owners after a coordinated effort among neighbours. Another resident sought help retrieving a cat trapped near a local complex, receiving quick responses and support from fellow residents, reflecting the ward’s strong sense of community vigilance. Upcoming Events The Potchefstroom Male Choir announced its festive concert, “Kersfees-Vreugde: Lig en Hoop,”  scheduled for Sunday, 16 November 2025 at 15:30  at Miederpark NG Church . The event will feature guest artists, including soprano Marguerite van Wyk and kleinkunst performer Moira van der Merwe. Final Chat This week’s updates reflect both the challenges and collaborative spirit within Potchefstroom’s wards. While municipal service delays and infrastructure issues remain pressing, continued cooperation between residents, committees, and local departments has yielded visible progress. • Potchefstroom Weekly Safety and Community Report (15–22 October 2025)

This week’s safety and community report provides an overview of key developments, operations, and awareness initiatives across the greater Potchefstroom area. Information was compiled from Potchefstroom First Responders and supporting local entities. The report highlights law enforcement successes, public safety awareness campaigns, community initiatives, and important updates impacting residents during the week of 15 to 22 October 2025. 15 October — Major SAPS Operation Success Local law enforcement achieved a significant breakthrough when officers intercepted a truck on the N12 carrying illicit cigarettes valued at approximately R3 million. Two suspects were arrested during the operation. The collaboration between SAPS units, provincial traffic authorities, CCTV networks, and private security services contributed to the success of this coordinated action. The case underscores the ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and safeguard the regional economy. 17 October — Honouring Emergency Medical Personnel National Emergency Medical Services Day was celebrated across South Africa on 17 October, recognising the dedication and service of first responders and medical professionals. The day serves as a reminder of the critical role emergency workers play in saving lives, particularly during high-demand periods such as the upcoming festive season. Provincial Safer Festive Season Launch The North West Provincial Government officially launched the #SaferFestiveSeason  campaign as part of a nationwide operation led by the Justice, Crime Prevention, and Security Cluster. Running from 1 October 2025 to 31 January 2026, the campaign focuses on proactive crime prevention, visible policing, and community partnership efforts to reduce criminal activity during the holiday period. 18 October — Community and Safety Awareness The Cachet Park City Improvement District (CID)  hosted the annual Oaktober Family Fun Run , bringing together residents for a day of community engagement and healthy living. In a public notice, Cachet Park CID also issued an appeal urging residents not to remove plants or road traffic signs, noting that such acts are considered criminal offences. Community vigilance was further encouraged through educational messages about public safety and crime prevention, promoting collective responsibility for maintaining a secure environment. 19–20 October — Rapid Security Response and Public Safety Alerts A successful armed response operation by CB Security on 19 October led to the detention of five suspects following reports of suspicious activity involving a vehicle in Potchefstroom. Quick action and coordination prevented further incidents, with recovered stolen items handed over to the police. Residents were reminded to report suspicious behavior immediately to ensure faster emergency response times. Additional awareness messages emphasised the emotional side of recovery for breast cancer survivors, focusing on the importance of holistic healing beyond physical treatment. Public information updates also addressed the Cannabis for Private Purposes Act (2024) , reminding residents that while personal use and cultivation in private spaces are permitted, consuming cannabis in public remains illegal. The act prohibits usage in vehicles, near non-consenting individuals, or in the presence of children, and driving under its influence is a criminal offense. 20–21 October — Local Incidents and Safety Training An isolated vehicle accident was reported at the intersection of Retief Street and Govan Mbeki Drive. Emergency and rescue services attended the scene, and motorists were advised to avoid the area while recovery operations were underway. Residents were also alerted to an armed robbery incident in a local parking area, highlighting the need for situational awareness in public spaces. Authorities encouraged drivers to secure their vehicles, remain vigilant, and immediately report suspicious individuals to law enforcement. A First Aid Level 1 Training Program  was announced, accredited by SAQA and TETA, with limited spaces available before year-end. The course aims to equip participants with essential life-saving skills, promoting readiness within workplaces, schools, and homes. 21 October — Justice and Accountability A 25-year imprisonment sentence was handed down by the Potchefstroom Regional Court following a successful prosecution in a domestic violence-related murder case in Ikageng. The conviction was commended by provincial law enforcement leadership as a strong message against gender-based violence. Elsewhere, a motorcycle theft was reported in Orkney, with authorities calling for public assistance to recover the vehicle. Concerns were also raised over disused firefighting vehicles left idle at various stations across the North West province. Community members expressed frustration over the wasted resources, emphasizing that these vehicles could be repaired and redeployed to assist local firefighting initiatives, particularly during high-risk fire seasons. 21–22 October — Road Safety and Mental Health Motorists were advised to prepare for road closures  linked to the Let’s Go Potch Marathon 2025 , scheduled for 24–25 October. Routes including Hoffman, Borcherd, and Esselen Streets will experience temporary closures, with partial access on key intersections. Residents are urged to plan alternate routes and exercise caution in affected areas. The week concluded with a reminder of the growing mental health crisis among first responders nationwide. Reports indicated a concerning rise in police suicides, prompting calls for greater psychological support and resilience programs within emergency services. Experts stress that sustained exposure to trauma can severely impact mental well-being and that ongoing intervention is critical to supporting those who serve on the frontlines. Final Thought The week’s developments reflect the combined strength of Potchefstroom’s emergency services, law enforcement, and community safety partners. From successful operations and awareness drives to ongoing training and mental health advocacy, these actions continue to reinforce safety and unity in the region. Residents are encouraged to stay informed, cooperate with authorities, and contribute to a safer community environment for all. • A Night Out Without the Price Tag - 24 October

Music fans in Potchefstroom are in for a treat on Friday, 24 October 2025, when Scallywag takes the stage at Koper Kraal. The show kicks off at 19:00, and best of all, it’s completely free, no tickets, no cover charge, just tunes and good company. Koper Kraal, located at 237 Wilgeboom, Potchefstroom, has become a bit of a local go-to for live music and laid-back nights. This gig looks set to follow that easy formula: good music, good people, and no fuss at the door. What to Expect "Come and enjoy the evening with us.” No long-winded promises, no overhyped slogans, just an invitation to show up and have a good time. Scallywag’s performances tend to mix energy, crowd banter, and that sense of “just one more song” that keeps audiences hanging around longer than planned. If that sounds like your kind of night, it’s worth pencilling in. If you’re the type who likes a spontaneous night out, this one’s for you. Tell a mate, bring a jacket, and maybe keep Saturday morning clear, just in case the “enjoy the evening” part carries on later than expected.

  • Protect, Prevent, and Provide Hope: Paws Haven’s Ongoing Mission

A Community Reminder on Microchipping Every week, the dedicated volunteers at Paws Haven  encounter lost and frightened animals wandering the streets - often hungry, exhausted, and dangerously close to traffic. Too many of these pets have no form of identification, making it difficult or even impossible to reunite them with their families. That’s why microchipping  has become one of the most important life-saving measures for pets. A tiny chip, no bigger than a grain of rice, can mean the difference between a heartbreaking loss and a joyful reunion. Once scanned, a registered chip allows rescuers to immediately contact the owner, saving valuable time and distress. Unfortunately, several of this week’s rescues highlight the ongoing challenge: Two dogs were found near Goud Street , one of them a German Shepherd  with an unregistered chip. A Collie-cross male  was discovered in the Boskop area , with no microchip. Another female dog  was found inside Paws Haven’s emergency kennel, again, without a chip. These cases serve as a crucial reminder: even a chipped dog must have its information correctly registered to ensure it can be traced. Paws Haven emphasises that the small microchipping fee helps cover both the chip itself and essential running costs like fuel and rescues. The organisation receives no government support , relying solely on community generosity to continue its work. By microchipping your pet, you’re not only keeping them safe, you’re supporting the daily mission to rescue, reunite, and protect animals in need. The Importance of Sterilisation: Preventing Suffering Before It Starts 😿 In addition to microchipping, sterilisation  remains one of the most effective ways to reduce animal suffering. With stray and abandoned kittens increasing at an alarming rate, shelters across the region are stretched to their limits. A simple but powerful truth stands out: 8 or 9 out of every 10 stray or feral kittens don’t survive. The “ Cat Math ” chart demonstrates how quickly populations spiral out of control, one unspayed cat can lead to dozens of kittens within just a year. Paws Haven continues to urge pet owners to act responsibly by spaying and neutering their pets. Doing so not only prevents unwanted litters but also helps reduce disease and improves the overall wellbeing of companion animals. Stories of Love and Recovery 💕 Buddy Spreads Joy at Samuel Broadbent 🌼🐶 Earlier this week, Buddy , an energetic one-year-old Jack Russell , made a heartwarming visit to Samuel Broadbent Home , where he brought laughter and affection to the elderly residents. His wagging tail and endless enthusiasm lit up the day, a gentle reminder of how animals can lift spirits and bring comfort to those around them. Buddy, still waiting for his forever home, has proven to be a natural at spreading love. He would make a loyal and affectionate companion for anyone ready to open their heart. 🏡 Zorro’s Miracle Journey 🐾💔➡️❤️ When Zorro  arrived at Paws Haven, his tiny frame carried a big burden, a broken leg and unimaginable pain. But thanks to the skilled hands of Dr. Gerber , his story took a hopeful turn. After delicate surgery involving a metal pin, Zorro’s leg was repaired, and today, he’s walking proudly once more. From wincing in pain to wagging in joy, Zorro embodies the power of second chances. His recovery continues, but his courage and spirit shine brighter each day. Donations toward Zorro’s medical care are still being accepted, helping Paws Haven continue to provide lifesaving treatments for animals in desperate need. Gratitude That Keeps Paws Haven Going 🙏 Paws Haven’s ongoing success depends entirely on community kindness, and this week was another reflection of that compassion: Monia  and her students donated vital cat food supplies. Nikki  contributed four boxes of Pamper Sachets , delivered straight to the shelter. Florny  made a generous financial donation to feed the cats in need. Estelle , one of Paws Haven’s most steadfast supporters, once again went above and beyond to help. Every act of giving, whether a bag of food, a blanket, or a monetary gift, makes a tangible difference. Each contribution keeps tails wagging, bowls filled, and hope alive. 🐾 “Our hearts overflow with gratitude,” a Paws Haven spokesperson shared. “Every donation, no matter how small, helps us continue to care for the animals who depend on us.” A Final Word: How You Can Help 🐕🐈 Paws Haven invites the public to visit the shelter and meet their many lovable animals waiting for homes. Whether it’s adopting, fostering, donating, or simply spreading awareness, every gesture matters. 💡 Remember: Microchip your pets and keep the registration updated. Sterilise to stop the cycle of suffering. Support your local shelters, because together, we can make compassion go further. 🐾 Paws Haven – Giving Hope, One Paw at a Time. 🐶🐾💙🌼😻 #TheGoToGuy #PawsHaven #AdoptDontShop #MicrochipAwareness #SterilizeToSaveLives #AnimalRescue #SecondChances #CommunitySupport

  • Keeping Kids in School: Feeding Dreams, Building Futures

In Potchefstroom, many children face obstacles that go far beyond hunger. For them, staying in school is a daily struggle. The lack of proper uniforms, stationery, birth certificates, identity cards, or even professional assessments can stand in the way of education. But Bafenyi Trust believes that no child should be left behind because of circumstances beyond their control. Why Staying in School Matters Education is the foundation of every thriving society. When children stay in school, they are not just learning facts and figures, they are developing the skills, confidence, and hope needed to shape their futures. Unfortunately, many learners in disadvantaged areas drop out early due to a lack of basic resources. Something as small as missing a school uniform or not having a birth certificate can close the door to opportunity. Bafenyi Trust steps in to bridge these gaps. Through their “Keeping Kids in School”  initiative, they work to ensure that every child has the essentials needed to continue learning. Their approach is practical and deeply personal: they help with obtaining identity documents, assist families in registering children for school, and provide stationery, clothing, and food support. Each intervention ensures that no child’s potential is wasted simply because of poverty. Behind Every Plate is a Story of Hope On 16 October, the world celebrates World Food Day , a reminder that every meal matters, every child counts, and every act of kindness nourishes more than just the body. For Bafenyi Trust , this day is not just about distributing food; it’s about restoring dignity, hope, and opportunity. Behind every plate they serve lies a story of resilience, a child who gets to go to school with a full stomach, a family that can face tomorrow with renewed strength, and a community that grows stronger together. A Meal that Changes Everything Food security is a crucial part of this vision. A hungry child cannot concentrate in class, and many parents are forced to make the heartbreaking decision between buying food and sending their children to school. That’s why Bafenyi Trust links its education support with regular feeding initiatives, ensuring that children have both the nourishment and the opportunity they need to succeed. During World Food Day , the organization celebrates the community partnerships that make these meals possible. Volunteers, donors, and local supporters come together to share food and hope, proving that compassion can truly feed the soul. “Behind every plate we serve is a story of hope,” says the Bafenyi Trust team. “Each meal represents dignity, nourishment, and love for those who need it most.” Partner with Bafenyi Trust Real change happens when people come together. By partnering with Bafenyi Trust, individuals and businesses can help ensure that more children stay in school and more families are empowered to rise above hardship. Your contribution, no matter the size, makes a real difference. The first session, fittingly titled Shadow Art, combines a gentle wander through nature with a guided art activity. Using basic materials like ink, pen and watercolours, attendees will create artworks inspired by the forest and river surroundings. The R150 ticket covers everything: guided art facilitation, use of materials, and the trail fee. All you need to bring is yourself (and perhaps a hat and good humour if the sun decides to join in). A Collaboration Rooted in Creativity This new monthly series is the brainchild of My Creative Fix, known for curating creative experiences that get people making and connecting, and Hartspad, a local adventure venue with trails designed for more than just running or riding, they’re perfect for reflection and inspiration too. • Potch My Gou Keeps Halloween Nights Safe and Fun

As October 31st creeps closer, Potchefstroom begins to buzz with costume plans, themed parties, and a little Halloween mischief. But while ghosts and goblins might roam the streets, there’s one thing that shouldn’t haunt anyone - the struggle to get home safely. That’s where Potch My Gou , Potchefstroom’s trusted local transport service, steps in. Known for its reliability and community-driven approach, the company has added a festive twist to its usual message: Stay scary, not stranded. 🎭 A Night of Fun Without the Fright Halloween, originally known as All Hallows’ Eve , dates back over 2,000 years to an ancient Celtic festival called Samhain . It marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, a time when people believed the boundary between the living and the dead grew thin. Over the centuries, it evolved into the modern celebration we know today, filled with costumes, candy, and creativity. But as the festivities have grown, so too has the importance of safety and responsibility.
