Klerksdorp Hoërskool se dogterskrieketspan het die afgelope naweek as gasheer opgetree vir ’n vriendskaplike toernooi wat op hul eie pragtige veld plaasgevind het. Die naweek was nie net ‘n viering van sport nie, maar ook van vriendskap, vaardighede en spanbou en natuurlik ‘n hele klomp krieket! In a world increasingly shaped by global partnerships and innovation-driven collaboration, the North-West University (NWU) Faculty of Engineering played host to a high-level academic delegation from Austria’s Montanuniversität Leoben (Technical University of Leoben) on Monday, 28 July 2025. The day unfolded as a celebration of shared knowledge, sustainability objectives, and the groundwork for future cooperation between two universities on different continents, but with closely aligned values. Image: NWU Faculty of Engineering A Day of Mutual Learning and Global Vision The visiting delegation from Montanuniversität Leoben arrived in Potchefstroom for a full-day engagement with NWU’s Faculty of Engineering, with the event focusing on key themes of engineering education, global engagement, mining innovation, and sustainability. The interactions were not simply ceremonial, they were shaped around robust dialogues and practical alignment in areas of shared interest. The program kicked off with a session led by Mrs. Bibi Bouwman from NWU, who presented an inspiring lecture on Sustainability and Community Impact , drawing connections between local development imperatives and engineering’s responsibility in addressing climate and social challenges. Her talk provided context to how universities in South Africa are positioning themselves not just as academic institutions but as anchors of positive change in their communities. Following this, Dr. Shernice Soobramoney facilitated an insightful discussion on internationalisation and global engagement , an area where both universities are eager to deepen ties. Discussions explored exchange programs, research linkages, and joint postgraduate opportunities that could benefit students and academic staff alike. Hierdie platforms het ’n kernrol begin speel in gemeenskapskommunikasie, van kragonderbrekings en waterlekke tot verkeersinsidente, troeteldiersoektoeke en die momentum rondom die petisie vir ontbinding van die JB Marks-munisipaliteit. Hierdie weeklikse opsomming bied ’n neutrale, feitlike oorsig van die belangrikste gesprekke en gemeenskapsaksies wat plaasgevind het tussen Vrydag 25 Julie en Woensdag 31 Julie 2025. 📝 Petisie vir Ontbinding van JB Marks Die gesprek rondom die ontbinding van die JB Marks Plaaslike Munisipaliteit het hierdie week steeds sentraal gestaan in verskeie wyk-groepe. Inwoners is voortdurend herinner aan verskeie plekke en tye waar die petisievorms onderteken kon word: 25 Julie:  Tuscany Ridge (07:00–08:00), Huis Anna Viljoen in Bailliepark (08:30–10:00), Dienssentrum beskikbaar as afleweringspunt. 26 Julie:  Mooirivier Mall (10:00–13:00) by Checkers se ingang; suksesvolle tafels is ook opgestel by Spar Miederpark en Emslies Garage. 28 Julie:  Waterberry Spur (16:00–17:30). 29 Julie:  Sportvelde van Die Wilge Hoërskool in Rocherstraat (15:30–16:45). 30 Julie:  Slouw Café by Junction Mall (07:00–08:30), Platteland Slaghuis (16:00–17:30), Usave Ikageng (16:00–18:00), Lupine/Watsonia (16:30–17:30). 31 Julie:  Erica Park, NTT, Ikageng Gate Mall. Verskeie permanente afleweringspunte is ook aangekondig, insluitend Heinricha Hodgson Inc., Gizmo Marketing en die Dienssentrum. Die mikpunt van organisasie is om teen 3 Augustus 2025  ten minste 50 000 getekende vorms  by die Munisipale Afbakeningsraad in te handig, as simbool van Potchefstroom se strewe na selfstandige munisipale beheer. 💡 Kragonderbrekings en Diefstal Verskeie inwoners het kragonderbrekings aangemeld in strate soos Kampstraat en Klerkstraat. In een geval is bevestig dat kragkabels gesteel is buite nommer 55. Ander meldings van soortgelyke probleme in Beyers Naudé, Rivierstraat en Miederpark het gewys op ’n patroon van infrastruktuurdiefstal. Hoewel sommige areas se elektrisiteit herstel is, was frustrasie merkbaar oor die tydsduur van herstelwerk en die gebrek aan direkte kommunikasie vanaf die owerhede. 💧 Waterlekke en Rioolprobleme Bailliepark was die fokus van talle waterverwante klagtes. Waterlekke is bevestig in Paveystraat, Arendpark, Williamsstraat, Malva/Wynne-straat en op die hoek van Otto- en Neethlingstraat. Die hoeveelheid aktiewe lekke het daartoe gelei dat inwoners sarkasties opgemerk het dat die hele JBM-waterspan aan net Baillie Park toegeken moet word. ’n Aparte geval is gemeld waar inwoners self rioolpype oopgemaak het nadat boomwortels die stelsel verstop het. Die gebrek aan reaksie van munisipale kantore is deur meer as een persoon bevestig. In reaksie op ’n kennisgewing van die munisipaliteit oor instandhoudingswerk by Boskop Dam , is inwoners versoek om water spaarsaam te gebruik, aangesien die vloei van Boskop na Potch Dam vir ’n tydperk onderbreek sou wees. 📹 Gemeenskapsveiligheid Daar is gemeld dat ’n veiligheidskamera opgerig is op die N12 , befonds deur Wyk 3 se toekenning vir die 2024/2025 finansiële jaar. Hierdie kamera is spesifiek geplaas tot voordeel van die groter Potchefstroom-gemeenskap. Verder is daar berig oor ’n brand op die hoek van Rivier- en Mareestraat, met ’n transformer op die erf en rook wat die buurhuis bedreig het. Brandweer is ingelig en het die brand uiteindelik hanteer. 🛣️ Verkeer en Ongelukke Twee motorvoertuigongelukke is aangemeld op die N12 tussen Potch en Klerksdorp . Een het plaasgevind op 28 Julie ongeveer 15 km buite Potch, en ’n ander op 29 Julie ongeveer 10 km buite die stad. In beide gevalle is die pad gedeeltelik versper, maar teen latere tye is bevestig dat die tonele skoongemaak is. 🐾 Gemeenskapsake en Troeteldierhulp ’n Soektog is van stapel gestuur vir Sammy , ’n 8-jarige hondjie met ’n pers bandjie wat laas in Klerkstraat, Miederpark gesien is. Verskeie inwoners het gehelp met die verspreiding van inligting en versoek dat die eienaar by verskeie groepe gevoeg word vir verdere kommunikasie. 🕰️ Skedules en Dienskennisgewings Inwoners is daarop gewys dat die hooflyn van die munisipale kantore onbereikbaar  was vir dele van die week. Dit het aanleiding gegee tot verhoogde frustrasie en verdere vertroue op WhatsApp-groepe vir vinnige updates. Die Noordwes-Universiteit  se nooddiens het op 28 Julie vuurbreek-aktiwiteite by die Westelike kampus se sportgronde uitgevoer. Inwoners is gevra om hul vensters toe te hou weens moontlike rookverspreiding. 📢 Slotparagraaf Die afgeloope week se gesprekke bied ’n eerlike blik op die daaglikse realiteite waarmee Potchefstroom se inwoners te doen het , van infrastruktuurprobleme en kragonderbrekings tot gemeenskapsamewerking en burgerlike aksie. Laerskool Mooirivier se o/12A- en o/13A-netbalspanne het onlangs deelgeneem aan die Suid-Afrikaanse Netbalkampioenskappe en met elke gooi hul skool se naam met trots gedra. Hierdie toernooi het nie net ’n toets van vaardighede gebied nie, maar was ook ’n onvergeetlike ervaring van spanbou, groei en lewenslesse. Laerskool Mooirivier Meer as Net ’n Kompetisie Vir hierdie groep Tokkie-dogters was die kampioenskappe nie net ’n sportgeleentheid nie – dit was ’n kans om hulself te toets, hul bande te versterk en hul passie vir die spel uit te leef. Op die baan het hulle met deursettingsvermoë, sportmangees en trots gespeel en van die baan af het hulle herinneringe geskep wat ’n leeftyd sal hou. Andrea Steynberg – Junior Women’s Mile Champion After a strong continental campaign, Andrea won the Junior Women’s Mile  in 4:50.01 , finishing 3rd overall  in a mixed field of seniors, a massive statement performance. Tatai Amogelang – Junior Men’s Mile Champion Tatai claimed the men’s title in a PB of 4:12.9 , proving he thrives under pressure. Bertus van der Linde  – Junior Mile Bronze Bertus joined his training partner Tatai on the podium, placing 3rd in the Junior Mile  with 4:16.2 , a moment of pride for the PTC duo.
