The Midwest Model Club recently hosted its first "Fun Fly" event of the year, drawing radio-controlled (RC) aviation enthusiasts from across the country to their airfield just outside Potchefstroom. The event showcased a diverse array of model aircraft and highlighted the club's commitment to fostering a vibrant RC flying community. A Celebration of RC Aviation Pilots from various regions, including Johannesburg, Randburg, and Vanderbijlpark, converged to participate in the Fun Fly event. The skies were filled with an impressive assortment of model aircraft, ranging from gliders and gas-powered planes to jets and helicopters. To ensure safety and optimal flight conditions, the event was structured into specific time slots, separating different aircraft types, as helicopters and jets cannot operate simultaneously. Commitment to Education and Safety Understanding the importance of proper training, the Midwest Model Club offers a flight training program designed to teach aspiring pilots the fundamentals of RC flying. Instructors provide hands-on guidance, ensuring that new members learn to operate their aircraft safely and confidently. This emphasis on education underscores the club's dedication to responsible flying practices. Community Engagement and Amenities The club's events are not only about flying but also about building a community. Spectators are welcomed free of charge, and amenities such as food and beverage stalls are provided to enhance the experience. These gatherings serve as a platform for enthusiasts to connect, share knowledge, and enjoy the thrill of RC aviation in a friendly setting. While attendees can enjoy the displays freely, participating pilots contribute a nominal fee. It's important to note that pets are not permitted, and certain areas are restricted to pilots for safety reasons. 🚵‍♀🌲🚵‍♀🌲🚵‍♀🌲🚵‍♀🌲🚵‍♀🌲 Sunday, 25 May 2025 we saw the Sappi Karkloof Classic Trail Festival host the SA MTB Marathon Championships, and two brave riders from Potch showed up and took on the mountain, head-on.This wasn’t your average Sunday cycle. It was steep, rough, and packed with twisty single-track trails, the kind where your handlebars just squeeze through 😳. Image: Hoërskool.Ferdinand Postma.High School 🟢 Ilne: 41.4 km of Pure Determination Ilne took on the 41.4 km route , which is more or less the distance from Potch to Klerksdorp, but here’s the kicker: it came with a 1335 m elevation gain . That’s the height of 445 floors . Yes, like climbing a skyscraper. On a mountain bike. In the mud. And probably with a few tree roots thrown in for good measure 🌳💪. It wasn’t just about distance, it was about staying focused, keeping balance, and digging deep on those brutal climbs. 🔴 Divan: Going Bigger with 61.6 km and 1933 m Up! Divan didn’t hold back. He took on the 61.6 km route , with a whopping 1933 m elevation gain . That’s like riding your bike up 644 floors ! This route demanded everything: fitness, mental toughness, and sharp technical skills. Gebore uit die passie wat hy en sy vrou, Liezel, vir fietsry en ‘n gesonde leefstyl het, het Pad.langs ontstaan. “Dit gaan oor die gemeenskap”, het Johan genoem. Gele ë op die Modderdampad of soos baie inwoners daarna verwys, die ‘oefenpad’, is die idee om dié koffiewinkel as wegspring te gebruik en ‘n verversing na die tyd daar te geniet. Meer as genoeg sitplek Hulle bring meer as net lekker koffie na die tafel Lekker kos, vars produkte en gehalte kwaliteit koffie is die mantra van die Pad.langs span. Funksionele fiksheid is die oorhoofse fokus en dit sal ook wees hoe die speelarea ontwerp en gebou word. Op die stadium is daar ‘n 1.6km fietsbaan wat ook dien as staproete op die perseel vir oud en jonk. Die jongspan kan ook op die twee kleiner bane tekere gaan terwyl mamma en/of pappa die real McCoy aandurf.   Die twee bane waar die kinders kan speel "Ons wou ‘n gemeenskap skep rondom beweging, gesondheid en die goeie dinge in die lewe - goeie kos, goeie koffie en goeie mense”, het Johan gesê. Koffiewinkels, CrossFit en Kerk Potchefstroom bestaan omtrent uit koffiewinkels, kerke en CrossFit, so om jou koffie te laat uitstaan, moet dit besonders wees. Die Weideman egpaar het lank en ver gesoek na ‘hulle’ koffieboon, “dit was omtrent die 50ste boon waarop ek en Liezel [eindelik] besluit het”. Key Priorities for Ward 15 The updated IDP for Ward 15 puts a sharp focus on urban safety, infrastructure restoration, and community facility improvements. Here are the highlights: 1. Urban Safety and Order in the CBD • Installation of high-mast lights to improve visibility. • Enforcement against illegal squatters and unlicensed business operators. • Health & Safety inspections to become a routine. • Holding property owners accountable for housing illegal businesses. • Combatting illegal dumping with active waste monitoring teams. 2. The initiative was a multi-department collaboration involving the Fire Department, Traffic Department, and the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality Health Department.
