- Thuntsha Lerole Reloaded Brings Service Delivery Momentum to JB Marks
The North West Provincial Government continued its push for accelerated service delivery through the Phase 5 Thuntsha Lerole Reloaded Programme , this time focusing on JB Marks Local Municipality. The initiative, which unfolded on 5 September, highlighted the government’s multi-sectoral commitment to improve community infrastructure, social welfare, and local economic development. Empowering Arts and Culture The Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation bolstered community creativity by handing over administrative packs to four Community Art Centers (CAC). These included Kanana CAC, Kopano ke Mmatla CAC, Tswelelang CAC, and Steve Biko CAC. Each center received essential resources such as laptops, toner cartridges, mobile speakers, paint, and brushes. The support is expected to strengthen operations and enhance artistic programmes that engage young people and foster community cohesion. Supporting Local Entrepreneurs The event also served as a platform for entrepreneurship development. Two local entrepreneurs were presented with dummy cheques from the Empowerment Fund, providing crucial financial assistance to grow their businesses. This move underscores government’s focus on stimulating grassroots economic activity and supporting small enterprises in rural and urban communities alike. Housing and Land Ownership Progress Housing delivery took center stage with the handing over of three RDP houses in Tshing Extension 9 . These units form part of a broader allocation of 147 houses in the region , marking a tangible step in addressing housing backlogs. Further, efforts to secure land ownership for residents were demonstrated through the distribution of 300 title deeds across the municipality. Although only ten were symbolically handed over during the Ga-Mogopa feedback session, the initiative reflects a concerted drive to fast-track property rights for beneficiaries. Infrastructure and Safety Enhancements Communities in Ga-Mogopa village saw direct benefits from infrastructure investment. A new solar high mast light was installed, while six existing lights were repaired to improve night-time visibility and safety. At the Mogopa Satellite Clinic , residents gained improved access to resources through the provision of a JoJo tank, related accessories, and a vegetable garden kit . These additions are expected to support water security and promote food sustainability within the community. Social Relief and Community Support Aligned to the Social Relief of Distress programme , learners from selected schools received sanitary towels and school shoes , ensuring dignity and educational access for vulnerable groups. In addition, food parcels were distributed to ten needy households , providing immediate relief to families facing hardship. Roads and Service Delivery on the Ground On-the-ground service delivery was also prioritized, with teams conducting road blading and pothole patching across the municipality. These improvements, though basic, are critical for ensuring road safety, accessibility, and economic activity within local communities. Government and Community Partnership The event culminated in an interactive community feedback session at Ga-Mogopa Community Hall , where government departments, state-owned entities, and private sector partners provided on-the-spot services. The session was officially closed by the MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Madoda Sambatha , on behalf of Premier Mokgosi, reinforcing government’s accountability and commitment to community dialogue. Driving Change at the Local Level The JB Marks segment of Thuntsha Lerole Reloaded demonstrated the government’s intent to deliver tangible results through coordinated interventions. By simultaneously addressing housing, land rights, social relief, arts empowerment, infrastructure, and small business support, the programme highlighted a holistic approach to service delivery that directly engages communities and responds to local needs. #TheGoToGuy #JBMarks #CommunityDevelopment #ServiceDelivery #ArtsAndCulture 🏘️ 📚 🤝

- Eagles Soar Over Tuks with Commanding Away Victory
Statement Win in Pretoria The NWU Eagles continued their impressive Varsity Netball campaign with a resounding 67–54 victory over UP-Tuks at the Rembrandt Hall in Pretoria on Sunday, September 7, 2025. The visitors silenced the home crowd with a dominant display from the outset, claiming their third win of the season and tightening their grip on a top-three position in the standings. Image: NWU Eagles Take Control Early From the opening whistle, the Eagles dictated the tempo. Their attacking unit wasted no time in finding their rhythm, with Sunel Smit leading the charge in the circle. UP-Tuks, plagued by a slow start and unforced errors, quickly found themselves on the back foot. By the end of the first quarter, NWU had already carved out a commanding 21–11 lead, leaving the Pretoria side scrambling for answers. Tuks Struggle to Respond Despite the vocal support of their home fans, Tuks could not contain the visitors’ offensive power in the second quarter. NWU’s clinical finishing and tight defensive coverage ensured that any attempt at a comeback was short-lived. Coach Amanda Mynhardt shuffled her pack, moving captain Caroline Paul into the centre and Marichelle Visagie into the shooting circle, but NWU continued to dominate. At halftime, the scoreboard reflected the difference in intensity: NWU 36, Tuks 22. Image: NWU Momentum Maintained The third quarter confirmed NWU’s superiority. The Eagles extended their lead to 52–35, with their composure in attack matched by defensive resilience. Tuks’ persistent errors allowed NWU to pile on the pressure, effectively putting the result beyond doubt. Even as the hosts attempted to fight back, their execution faltered under the relentless press of the Eagles’ midcourt and circle defenders. Late Rally Falls Short Tuks did manage a spirited run in the final quarter, sinking seven unanswered goals to briefly ignite the home crowd. However, NWU’s experience and discipline ensured they were never in real danger of surrendering their advantage. The Eagles calmly weathered the storm and secured a decisive 67–54 win to underline their credentials as serious contenders. - John Steenhuisen visits Potchefstroom: Calls for urgent action to rescue North West
On Thursday, 4 September, Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen visited Potchefstroom as part of his oversight tour of municipalities in the North West province. His visit was part of the DA’s broader campaign to expose government service delivery failures and to present its six-point economic growth plan for rescuing the province. Photo (Potch Gazette): John Steenhuisen addresses the crowd Engagement with farmers at Lekwena Wildlife Estate Steenhuisen’s day began with an address to farmers at Lekwena Wildlife Estate, where he outlined the DA’s six-point blueprint for economic growth. The plan focuses on repairing infrastructure, lowering the cost of living, ensuring reliable energy and water, creating jobs, attracting investment, and fixing broken municipalities. Farmers raised concerns about unreliable services, deteriorating roads, and water security, highlighting the impact on food security and regional economic stability. Photo (Potch Gazette): Farmers speak out Oversight at Potchefstroom train station and communal pool The DA leader then conducted oversight visits to the Potchefstroom train station and the town’s communal swimming pool. At the station, Steenhuisen pointed to the burnt-out, derelict buildings and collapsing infrastructure as a symbol of the state’s neglect of railway services. At the municipal swimming pool, Steenhuisen highlighted how neglected public facilities undermine community life, especially for young people. The once-thriving recreational space is yet another reminder of the JB Marks Municipality’s service delivery failures. Photo (Democratic Alliance Facebook): The empty swimming pool Photo (Democratic Alliance Facebook): John Steenhuisen at the Potchefstroom Train Station Sewage flowing into the Mooirivier Perhaps the most shocking stop of the day was in residential areas where Steenhuisen witnessed raw sewage not only lying stagnant but flowing directly into the Mooirivier. Residents voiced frustrations about health risks, intolerable living conditions, and the municipality’s lack of accountability. Photo (Democratic Alliance Facebook): An image that is not new to Potchefstroom residents Blueprint for change in North West Steenhuisen tied these oversight visits back to the DA’s six-point economic rescue plan. He stressed that burnt train stations, crumbling roads, broken wastewater plants, and sewage leaks are all symptoms of failing governance. Photo (Potch Gazette): John Steenhuisen addressing the public at Lekwena Wildlife Estate Conclusion John Steenhuisen’s visit to Potchefstroom brought national attention to the daily realities faced by residents and farmers under failing municipal management. His message was clear: without urgent intervention and a new approach to governance, North West risks further decline. Through its six-point plan, the DA aims to offer a credible and practical alternative to restore dignity, prosperity, and opportunity in the province. _______________________________ 4 September in photos

- Recycled Wynbottel Werkswinkel in Potchefstroom - 20 September
Dis dus ‘n eerste-boek, eerste-kry situasie. Dis hands-on, so almal gaan self sny, skuur en verf.
