Twee weke later was daar ’n lied.” ’n Projek vol Hart en Diepte Met “Genesis” bied Appel ’n unieke balans van geloof, liefde, inspirasie en nostalgie – ’n projek wat sekerlik diep gaan resoneer met sy luisteraars. - SA Army Fittest Soldier Competition 2025, Celebrations, Functional Fitness, and Wider SANDF Sporting Excellence
The seventeenth South African Army Fittest Soldier Competition continues to surge forward, with Days 3 and 4 bringing both recognition and renewed trials of endurance. The introduction of the inaugural Flower Ceremony on Tuesday evening, 02 September 2025, marked a proud moment of celebration, where medals were awarded to competitors who had excelled in the early physical protocols. By the following day, soldiers were back in action at the Kopanelo Military Sports Club , facing the unrelenting demands of the Functional Fitness Test , an event that pushed every boundary of strength, stamina, and grit. In parallel, the broader Defence Force spirit was on display in Durban, where the South African National Defence Force Male Netball Team competed in the National Male Netball Championships at Hoy Park, reminding all that SANDF’s commitment to athletic excellence extends beyond the battlefield. Day 3: First Flower Ceremony Recognition of Excellence The first-ever Flower Ceremony of the Fittest Soldier Competition was held at 4 Artillery Regiment on the evening of 02 September. The hall was alive with applause as soldiers stood proudly on podiums, receiving medals for their performances in the earlier protocols: the 2.4km run, push-ups, sit-ups, swimming, shuttle runs, and the Bronco Test . The medalists represented the finest of the Army’s athletic spirit, men and women whose determination and skill carried them into the top three positions. As medals glistened under the lights, camaraderie was palpable. Competitors congratulated one another, with cheers echoing through the hall not just for individual success but for collective resilience. Leadership Encouragement Lieutenant Colonel B. Mabee, Officer Commanding of 4 Artillery Regiment, addressed the gathered soldiers with words that resonated deeply:“To the warriors of the Fittest Soldier Competition… you, the participants. You have pushed your bodies to the edge, and you saw the strength of your spirit. A lot of sweat and aching muscles showed what it means to be resilient, disciplined, and committed.” He emphasized respect for perseverance as much as for podium finishes, ensuring that all competitors felt seen and valued. Supported by the South African Army Foundation , the Flower Ceremony became more than a medal presentation; it was a celebration of endurance, unity, and the human dimension of soldiering. Day 4: Functional Fitness Test A Relentless Circuit On Wednesday, 03 September, the Pride of Lions were once again tested to their limits in the Functional Fitness Test . Conducted at Kopanelo Military Sports Club, the circuit was engineered to simulate real-world demands in a condensed, high-intensity format. Competitors sprinted repeatedly across lanes marked with lime, clouds of dust trailing in their wake. Explosive power was tested through the hoisting of weighted medicine balls onto elevated platforms. These same platforms then became stations for vaults, push-ups, and rapid transitions, testing agility under fatigue. Steel and Sweat The circuit intensified with sled pushes and pulls , as soldiers drove weighted steel sleds forward before dragging them back with thick ropes, muscles burning with each pull. Steel dummy rifles added another layer of physical demand, forcing competitors to balance stamina with tactical precision. The final trial, a kettlebell carry across designated lanes, proved especially grueling. Soldiers gripped heavy steel weights tightly, their faces etched with strain but their steps steady, embodying the unwavering resilience of the South African Army. Spirit Unbroken Despite fatigue from prior days, including the Land Obstacle Course and the Artillery Surprise, competitors refused to falter. Each completed circuit was a statement of grit, determination, and refusal to yield. For spectators, it was a vivid reminder of the Army ethos: undaunted, unyielding, and fiercely committed . Beyond Potchefstroom: SANDF Netball Championships National Representation While Potchefstroom hosted the Fittest Soldier trials, the SANDF’s sporting spirit was also on display in Hoy Park, Durban , where the South African National Defence Force Male Netball Team participated in the National Male Netball Championships 2025 from 01 to 05 September. The team played with determination and pride, showcasing tactical discipline and resilience that echoed the same values seen in the Fittest Soldier competition. Their results from the first three matches were as follows: SANDF 39 – 46 Capricorn B SANDF 43 – 31 Bojanala SANDF 39 – 41 Francis Baard Despite close losses, the team’s victory against Bojanala highlighted their capability to overcome challenges and adapt under pressure. Leadership Support The squad was honored by a visit from Brigadier General B.S. Mutungutungu , Director of Physical Training, Sports and Recreation. Her words of encouragement reinforced the role of the team not only as competitors but as custodians of physical training within the SANDF. She urged them to carry the lessons of the championships back to their home units, uplifting fitness standards across the Defence Force. Looking Ahead With Day 4’s Functional Fitness Test concluded, the South African Army Fittest Soldier Competition 2025 edges closer to its final stages. The competition has already showcased a stunning variety of challenges, from the Strongman Challenge to the Artillery Surprise and the Land Obstacle Course , each designed to test a unique blend of strength, speed, endurance, and tactical adaptability. At the same time, the SANDF’s participation in the National Male Netball Championships serves as a reminder that the Defence Force’s sporting excellence extends well beyond Potchefstroom, inspiring resilience and camaraderie on a national stage. Final Word: Unity in Strength The events of Days 3 and 4 reinforced a central truth: whether on the competition grounds of Potchefstroom or on the netball courts of Durban, the South African National Defence Force thrives on unity, discipline, and resilience. The Flower Ceremony brought warmth and recognition, the Functional Fitness Test demanded sweat and willpower, and the Netball Championships displayed determination and tactical strength. Together, they paint a picture of a Defence Force where excellence is not confined to one field or one event, it is a living culture that binds soldiers and athletes alike. #TheGoToGuy #potchefstroom #SANDF #SAArmy #PrideOfLions #FittestSoldierCompetition2025 All image credits to: SA National Defence Force

- NWU Grind Out a 1–0 Win Over TUT in Mahikeng
A Confident Start Under the floodlights of the NWU Mahikeng Stadium, the Eagles took control of their Varsity Football Round 5 clash against TUT. From the first whistle, NWU signaled their intent, dominating possession and setting the tempo with crisp passing and patient build-up play. For long spells of the opening half, TUT were pinned in their own half, struggling to settle on the ball. By the 30-minute mark, NWU had enjoyed nearly 70% possession and produced several shots on target, while TUT were yet to test goalkeeper Ethan Mokwena. The Eagles’ midfield trio dictated the rhythm, keeping the visitors chasing shadows and forcing them into defensive mode. TUT’s Counterattacking Response TUT’s approach was built around transitions, hoping to catch NWU on the break. While this gave them occasional opportunities to push forward, their lack of precision in the final third kept them from creating clear-cut chances. The NWU backline, marshalled by captain Aphelele Sibisi , showed discipline and composure, cutting out attacks before they became dangerous. As halftime arrived, the scoreline remained goalless, but NWU’s dominance suggested that the breakthrough was coming. The Decisive Goal The second half saw NWU continue to press for an opener. Their patience was rewarded when a sharp passing move down the right opened space for striker Momelezi Mngati , who made no mistake with a clinical finish to put the Eagles 1–0 ahead. The goal sent the Mahikeng crowd into raptures, as purple flags waved and chants filled the stadium. TUT, forced to chase the game, stepped up their intensity but found no way past a resilient NWU defence. Standout Performances While Mngati’s goal proved decisive, it was Khumoetsile Van Schalkwyk who stole the spotlight. Nicknamed “Messi” by the fans for his flair and creativity, Van Schalkwyk’s tireless work earned him the Player of the Match award . His ability to link play and stretch the TUT defence highlighted his growing influence in the Eagles’ campaign. Looking Ahead The 1–0 victory handed NWU three crucial points and reinforced their reputation as one of the most tactically disciplined sides in the competition. With growing momentum, the Eagles are finding the right balance between patient build-up, sharp finishing, and defensive solidity. For TUT, the defeat exposed their struggles in the attacking third, where a lack of composure continues to cost them. As the tournament progresses, finding solutions in front of goal will be vital to stay competitive. #TheGoToGuy #NWU #VarsityFootball #NWUEagles #EaglesFlyHigh #TUTFootball All Images Credit: NWU Soccer Institute

- Opening Hearts Through Fostering
PAWS Haven continues to receive an increasing number of vulnerable kittens and puppies, some arrive with their mothers, while others are found completely on their own. These young animals require temporary care, warmth, and consistent attention until they are strong enough to be adopted into permanent homes. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations The organisation is inviting members of the community to consider becoming foster parents. Fostering is a compassionate way to provide a safe environment while giving these animals the chance to grow healthy and ready for adoption. What Fostering Involves Fostering does not mean taking on all the costs or responsibilities alone. Instead, it is a partnership between PAWS Haven and the foster family. 🥣 Supplies Provided: All food and required medication are supplied by PAWS Haven. 🏡 Safe Space: The foster parent’s main role is to provide shelter, love, and a secure environment. 🕒 Temporary Care: Fostering lasts only until the animal is old enough or well enough to move into an adoptive home. 💌 Communication: Foster parents are added to a dedicated WhatsApp group for quick updates and requests for help. Even a short stay in a caring home can drastically improve a young animal’s chances of survival and adoption. Fostering vs. Adoption It is important to understand the distinction between fostering and adoption, as both play vital roles in animal welfare. Fostering: Temporary arrangement. Goal is to prepare the animal for adoption. All supplies and medical needs are provided by the shelter. Offers flexibility for those unable to commit long-term. Adoption: Permanent responsibility. The animal becomes a lifelong family member. Adopters cover ongoing costs such as food, healthcare, and daily care. Provides stability and a forever home for the pet. While fostering helps bridge the gap, adoption offers the final solution by ensuring every rescued animal has a safe, permanent place to belong. Image: PAWS Haven How the Community Can Help By volunteering as foster parents, community members extend PAWS Haven's reach beyond its shelter walls. This support allows the organisation to rescue more animals, reduce overcrowding, and save lives. Anyone who wishes to assist can reach out directly to PAWS Haven to join the foster network. Even a small contribution of time and space makes a meaningful difference. Final Thoughts Fostering is more than just temporary care, it is a lifeline for kittens and puppies who might otherwise not survive. Each foster home provides comfort, stability, and a chance at life. Through community involvement, PAWS Haven can continue to give every small soul the opportunity they deserve. 🌸 Thank you to every individual who has already opened their home and heart. Your kindness helps transform vulnerable beginnings into brighter futures. 🌸 🐾🐶🐱💖🌟 #TheGoToGuy #PAWSHaven #AnimalRescue #FosterLove #PAWSHavenCommunity #AdoptDontShop #SaveALife #Potchefstroom
- National Drive to Curb Foot-and-Mouth Disease Reaches North West
Earlier today, Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen, accompanied by North West MEC for Health, Madoda Sambatha, visited Rysmierbult near Ventersdorp to oversee a cattle vaccination campaign. The initiative forms part of South Africa’s broader strategy to combat Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), a livestock illness with far-reaching economic consequences if left unchecked. Protecting Farmers and Livestock During the visit, around 300 cattle belonging to communal farmers in the area were vaccinated. This effort highlights government’s commitment to both protecting animal health and supporting rural farmers, who are often most vulnerable to outbreaks. The campaign is also designed to reassure communities that measures are being taken to safeguard their livelihoods. National Vaccination Campaign The Department of Agriculture has allocated significant resources toward FMD control. For the current financial year, 900,000 vaccine doses were procured from the Botswana Vaccine Institute at a total cost of R72 million. Of these, 500,000 doses have already been distributed to provinces including KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Gauteng, North West, and the Free State. The remaining 400,000 doses are being allocated to priority areas still experiencing active outbreaks. According to recent departmental reports, unresolved cases continue to affect several provinces, underlining the importance of swift vaccination and stricter farm-to-farm movement protocols. Disease Outbreaks and Regional Impact Active outbreaks remain a challenge, with 54 recorded in Gauteng, 26 in North West, nine in Mpumalanga, and five in the Free State. These figures reflect the continued need for government intervention and careful monitoring. The campaign aims not only to halt the spread of FMD but also to stabilize the agricultural sector, which relies heavily on cattle farming for food security and trade. Looking Ahead The Rysmierbult visit by Minister Steenhuisen and MEC Sambatha underscores a collaborative approach between national and provincial authorities. - SA Army Fittest Soldier Competition 2025, Artillery Surprise and Land Obstacle Course Push Boundaries
The seventeenth South African Army Fittest Soldier Competition moved into its third and fourth days with events that blended sheer physicality, tactical authenticity, and a spirit of unrelenting resilience. On Tuesday, 02 September 2025, competitors faced the Artillery Surprise , a unique challenge designed to mirror the demands of battlefield logistics while testing the agility, strength, and mental grit of the Army’s finest. Later that evening, the day closed with the inaugural Flower Ceremony , awarding medals for the early protocols and lifting morale across the ranks. By Wednesday, 03 September, the competition escalated once more as the Pride of Lions confronted the Land Obstacle Course Run , one of the centerpiece trials of the week. This formidable sequence of twenty obstacles tested precision, coordination, and stamina, reaffirming why this annual contest has become the benchmark of operational readiness. Day 3: The Artillery Surprise A Challenge in the Shadow of Steel The Kopanelo Military Sports Club became a theater of grit as the Artillery Surprise unfolded. Much like last year’s Signal Surprise hosted by the South African Army Signal Formation at Wonderboom, this protocol was built to be immersive, demanding, and symbolic of the Army’s battlefield culture. Participants began with a punishing sprint before flipping massive military truck tyres across the field, each movement an ordeal of raw strength and unbroken focus. The sight of tyres tumbling under the weight of determination electrified the spectators, setting a fierce pace for what was to follow. The Weight of the Mission The next phase brought competitors face to face with inert 155mm artillery rounds , their bulk heavy with symbolism. Soldiers hefted these rounds with controlled precision, echoing the real-world burden of logistical endurance. From there, the course wound through an intricate layout of artillery prime mission equipment. Competitors scaled bleachers, clambered through vehicles, and weaved their way around the G5 “Leopard” towed howitzer , the G6 “Rhino” self-propelled howitzer , the Ratel Basic Artillery Observation System (BAOR) , and the FV2 “Bateleur” Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) . These towering machines, icons of South African artillery power, became both obstacles and landmarks, transforming the course into a living reminder of the Army’s heritage. Relentless to the Finish With fatigue pressing hard, the challenge demanded one more effort: loading and trundling a 155mm round on an M5 120mm mortar trailer up and down a marked lane. Straining muscles and burning lungs carried soldiers into a final sprint toward the finish line. Every competitor who crossed did so not just with sweat but with symbolic triumph. In that moment, each soldier embodied the spirit of resilience, determination, and adaptability that defines the South African Army. The Flower Ceremony Recognition Amid Exhaustion As evening fell on 02 September, the 4 Artillery Regiment grounds hosted a first-of-its-kind moment in the Fittest Soldier Competition: the Flower Ceremony . This medal presentation was designed to recognize outstanding performances in the earlier protocols, the 2.4km run, push-ups, sit-ups, swimming, shuttle runs, and the Bronco Test. The hall buzzed with applause as names were called, and medals were draped across fatigued yet smiling soldiers. The South African Army Foundation, a key supporter of the competition, sponsored the event, ensuring it carried both dignity and warmth.\ More Than Medals For many, the evening was about more than personal achievement. The atmosphere reflected camaraderie, as soldiers celebrated not only their own success but also that of comrades who had pushed themselves to the limit. Every cheer was a reminder that competition in the Army is never just about individual victory, it is about collective pride. Lieutenant Colonel B. Mabee, Officer Commanding of 4 Artillery Regiment, addressed the assembly with words that captured the day’s essence: The ceremony ended with a renewed sense of purpose. Though exhaustion was etched on every face, the Flower Ceremony lifted spirits, reinforcing the balance of discipline and humanity at the heart of the South African Army. Day 4: The Land Obstacle Course Twenty Trials of Endurance Wednesday, 03 September, marked the arrival of one of the competition’s most iconic challenges: the Land Obstacle Course Run . Set on the expansive terrain of Kopanelo Military Sports Club, the course was a punishing gauntlet of twenty obstacles, each designed to test different facets of a soldier’s fitness and resolve. The course opened with a towering 6m Rope Ladder , demanding upper-body strength and grip endurance. Competitors then moved to the Double Beam , where maintaining balance while touching ground between beams added an element of precision. The Trip Wire simulation , crafted from elastic bands, forced low, deliberate movement, followed by the grueling 20m wire crawl . Mid-Course Demands Midway, balance and agility became paramount. Soldiers faced the Ford stepping stones , the Espalier fence , and a 10.4m balance beam. The Sloping Wall with rope and the alternating Horizontal Beams compounded the difficulty, pushing competitors to think tactically about every move. Next came the Irish Table , a test of explosive upper-body strength, and the claustrophobic Tunnel with twin beams , which tested composure under pressure. The Four Steps rising to 2.3m added yet another vertical challenge before competitors plunged into the Banquette and Pit combination , blending leaps and controlled landings. Final Push to Victory The last stretch was no less demanding. A 4m Vertical Ladder loomed before competitors, followed by the Zigzag Balance Beam , the sharp turns of the Chicane , and a sequence of three Assault Walls spaced 6m apart . Fatigue weighed heavily at this point, but determination carried each soldier over, under, and through until the final sprint to the finish line. Spectators erupted with each successful climb, crawl, and jump, the Kopanelo grounds buzzing with energy and pride. The obstacle course, a crucible of endurance, reminded all present that soldiering requires not just strength of body but clarity of mind and willpower to persevere. Looking Ahead With four days complete, the South African Army Fittest Soldier Competition 2025 has already showcased an extraordinary blend of athleticism, resilience, and camaraderie. From the heavy lifts of the Strongman Challenge to the punishing Artillery Surprise and the intricate Land Obstacle Course, soldiers have proven time and again that they embody the ethos of readiness and determination. Yet, the competition is far from finished. Ahead lie the Functional Fitness Challenge and other trials that will determine which individuals rise above as the true standard-bearers of fitness in the South African Army. #TheGoToGuy #potchefstroom #SANDF #SAArmy #PrideOfLions #FittestSoldierCompetition2025 All image credit: https://www.facebook.com/SANationalDefenceForce

Continuing the Journey of Awareness The NWU TRACTOR Awareness Rally (Together Rallying Across Communities To Overcome Remembrance-loss) is steadily moving forward, carrying its message of dignity, remembrance, and resilience. After a meaningful stop in Hopetown on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, the rally reached Britstown on Wednesday, 3 September, where another day of connection and awareness unfolded. Each stop brings fresh opportunities for families, caregivers, and communities to learn, share, and stand together in the face of dementia and Alzheimer’s. Image: NWU Day Five: From Hopetown to Britstown Yesterday in Hopetown proved to be a turning point in the rally’s journey. Families and caregivers shared deeply personal stories, turning the clinic visit into an open classroom of lived experience. The community in Britstown welcomed the team with warmth, reflecting the spirit of solidarity that the rally seeks to cultivate. Healthcare professionals, student volunteers, and researchers engaged with locals through talks, storytelling, and service-learning activities. Harnessing Media and Storytelling The campaign continues to make use of digital platforms to expand its reach. Updates, videos, and stories are shared widely, ensuring the rally’s message extends beyond the towns along its path. A dedicated YouTube playlist allows supporters across South Africa to follow the journey, capturing the energy and emotion of each day’s events.
