Organised by Off Road South Africa  in partnership with Potch Plastic Recycling , the event transformed the normally quiet Diggers Inn area into a bustling hub of engines, dust, and adrenaline. Crews worked through the morning to prepare their vehicles before taking on the challenging 300-kilometre route under clear, hot North West skies. 🚘 Tight Finish in the Production Vehicle Category The Production Vehicle Category  produced one of the closest finishes of the season. Jan Rose and Arno Olivier  of Team Topcar Panelbeaters  took the win in their Ford Ranger , narrowly edging out TG Jansen van Rensburg and Vince van Allemann  of LTX Landini Racing  by only six seconds  after more than three hours of racing. Both teams displayed precision driving and endurance, crossing the line with times of 3:09:35  and 3:09:41  respectively. Wessel Mostert  and first-time navigator Koos Bosman  secured third place  in their Mosco Class S Toyota Hilux , finishing in 4:21:58  after serving a minor penalty. Alex van Rooyen  and Adriaan Labuschagne , competing in a Mitsubishi Pajero , were forced to retire due to mechanical issues. 🏎️ Special Vehicle Category Dominated by Local Crews The Special Vehicle Category  saw local racers deliver strong performances despite a day of mechanical challenges and race penalties. Brothers Dewald and Seegers du Plessis  claimed victory in their Zarco 2006 , following a consistent run that kept them clear of trouble. Their father, Gerhard du Plessis , alongside co-driver Ferdie Seegers , initially led the race in their Jimco 2000 , but a penalty for cutting a section of the route dropped them to second place . Third position went to Gideon Jacobs and Junior Vardy  in their Chevrolet Porter , who also impressed spectators with their pace. The local favourites thrilled the crowd with spectacular jumps over a series of humps, embodying the fearless spirit of off-road racing. 🏁 One-Second Victory in the Lightweight Vehicle Category The Lightweight Vehicle Category  produced one of the event’s most dramatic moments, as Dominique and Neil du Preez , a mother-and-son team , clinched victory by a single second. Driving their Can-Am Maverick X3 , the pair finished in 3:04:34 , narrowly ahead of Liezel Sajaam and Jorina van Staden , who crossed the line at 3:05:59  after maintaining strong pace throughout the race. A penalty for a missed stop cost Walter du Plessis and Garth Warncke  a potential podium, moving them down to third  with a time of 3:09:31 . The community of Carletonville  is taking a stand against substance abuse through the province-wide #TswaDaar Campaign , a major initiative led by the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG)  to support individuals and families affected by addiction. The campaign officially came to life at the Khutsong Multipurpose Community Centre  in Carletonville, where healthcare teams were on the ground providing essential services  to residents. These included dental care, general health screenings, dietetic support , and social work services , all delivered in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Social Development (@gpgSocDev) . The initiative forms part of a comprehensive public health response that seeks to restore dignity, promote healing, and connect individuals to long-term recovery and skills development opportunities . 💪 A Province United Ahead of the main rollout, the West Rand District Health Services  joined the GPG  activation at Kagiso Mall  on 24 October 2025 , bringing essential healthcare closer to the people. Residents accessed HIV and TB testing, blood pressure and diabetes screening , and a mobile clinic  offering comprehensive primary healthcare. Health workers also used the opportunity to raise awareness about substance abuse prevention  and encourage community members to seek support for themselves or loved ones. ‘Tswa Daar’ – Step Out and Rebuild Lives The Tswa Daar (Phuma Lapho)  campaign, meaning “Step Out” or “Get Out” , is part of the Gauteng Anti-Substance Abuse Response Programme , coordinated by the Departments of Health, Social Development, and Community Safety , together with the Central Drug Authority (CDA) . The campaign calls on families to bring forward anyone struggling with addiction, a son or daughter, friend, brother, or sister, to receive help through assessment, treatment, and social reintegration  programmes. Image: Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Health Department ❤️ 14 October – Bringing Health Services to the People The District Health team continued its Tigane/Alabama Accelerated Service Outreach , taking essential health services directly into local communities. Residents were encouraged to get tested, know their status, and stay on treatment , as part of the province’s “We Come to You”  campaign to close the 1.1 million HIV treatment gap . The outreach offered a full package of services including HIV testing, PrEP initiation, screenings for TB, NCDs, and mental health , along with immunisation, family planning, and condom distribution . 🧼 15 October – Promoting Hand Hygiene Awareness Staff across various health departments came together in a vibrant celebration of Global Hand Hygiene Day . Teams pledged to maintain good hand hygiene daily  and to continue their role in preventing infections within healthcare environments. The event highlighted unity and teamwork, as staff members wore different T-shirt colors  representing departmental diversity and shared commitment to infection prevention and control. The event emphasised healthy living, fitness, and wellness in the workplace , reminding both staff and the public that physical activity plays a vital role in building a healthy and productive society. Image: Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Health Department 🏥 23 October – Oversight Visit Praises Jouberton CHC The North West Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee on Health and Social Development  conducted an oversight visit  to the Jouberton Community Health Centre (CHC)  in Matlosana. The Committee commended the facility for strong compliance  with health service standards and operational efficiency. While some minor concerns were noted, these were issues already being addressed by the district team led by District Health Services Director, Mr. Motsamai Moloi . The Jouberton CHC , a 24-hour facility managed by Assistant Nursing Manager Ms. Vincentia Tsolela , provides a comprehensive package of primary healthcare services supported by dedicated operational managers and professional nursing teams. The event combined physical activity with public education, featuring a 43 km cycle race , 21 km marathon , 10 km aerobics session , and community entertainment . The Moses Kotane Sub-District team  provided integrated health services, including HIV/STI testing, TB screening, cervical cancer screening, NCD checks, and mental health assessments , all part of the broader effort to close the 1.1 million HIV treatment gap  in the province. SkoolKompas 20 October - Building Bright Beginnings at Hasie Hop Kleuterskool   We started the week with a visit to the world of little learners on SkoolKompas, where Drikus Viljoen sat down with Hettie Conradie, principal of Hasie Hop Kleuterskool. Hettie shared the excitement around their upcoming Open Day and gave us a glimpse into what makes this school truly special. With a deep focus on early childhood development, Hasie Hop provides a nurturing, creative space where little ones are encouraged to explore, play, and learn with joy. She also highlighted how play-based learning lays the foundation for confidence and curiosity ,essential building blocks for a bright academic future. SportStroom 22 October - Squash Finds Its Spark in Potchefstroom   Later in the week, SportStroom shone a spotlight on two passionate advocates for youth sport ,Alwyn and Cara, who are on a mission to grow squash among primary school learners in Potchefstroom. With high schools already running a competitive league, these two believe it’s time to introduce the game earlier. And with squash officially joining the Olympic Games in 2028, there’s never been a better time to get kids involved! Local primary schools faced off with passion and pride, showing the kind of skill and spirit that promises a bright future for Potch football. Each match was played with heart , coaches cheering, families watching, and young athletes giving it their all. This is where tomorrow’s stars are born, and we’re proud to see local businesses like Build It investing in the youth of our community.
