A Beloved Annual Tradition On 1 May 2025 , the NHKA congregation in Potchefstroom  hosted the much-anticipated Noordwes Motorskou , drawing visitors  from across the region. Known as a staple on the local events calendar, the motorshow once again lived up to its reputation by showcasing over 400 antique and custom-built vehicles , attracting both die-hard motor enthusiasts and casual admirers. Braam Kramer , another featured artist, gave a creative performance before audiences were thrilled by the Canine Focus SA Dog Show , which captivated both adults and children alike. A musical highlight followed with a performance by the headline artist, Ruhan du Toit , whose powerful vocals resonated across the square from 11:45 until just after 13:00. After surviving three months in ICU in 2020, Johan used the recovery period to follow his lifelong dream of building custom motorcycles. The result was a handcrafted trike powered by a Lexus V8 engine , capable of carrying up to 100 liters of fuel , allowing for 1,000 km  of travel without refuelling. Johan proudly noted: “We built this bike three, four, even five times before it felt right. Everything on it is custom. It’s priceless, not because of the money, but because of the time and hands that built it.” His dedication and resilience inspired many, with his creation been shown at 12 other motor events. Everything from the side skirts, steps, and panels  to the intricate interior finishes  was hand-built. As Johan shared: “We built it with Jesse, from scratch. I have photos of every step. Every day, firefighters put their lives on the line to protect our communities.  Each year on the first Sunday in May, the world unites to say “thank you” and honor these heroes on International Firefighters’ Day (IFFD) . Across the globe, fire stations mark this day by sounding their sirens at noon for 30 seconds, followed by a solemn minute of silence to honor all firefighters lost in the line of duty. It’s a powerful “Sound Off” ritual  that unites communities in reflection, from big city fire departments to volunteer brigades in small towns. This association had its roots in the old civil protection and disaster management groups, eventually formalized in 2005 to better fight wildfires on a volunteer basis. 26 Apr 2025 Bothaville – Following weeks of heavy rainfall in Bothaville and surrounding areas, Grain SA and the NAMPO management team would like to reassure all exhibitors, visitors, and partners that the 2025 NAMPO Harvest Day will go ahead as scheduled from 13 to 16 May 2025 at NAMPO Park. With NAMPO Harvest Day just around the corner, the significant rains did cause temporary waterlogging in parts of the showgrounds. However, the return of sunny weather over the past two days has already made a positive difference, with clear skies and drying conditions steadily improving across the site and lifting the spirits of everyone involved. Important Update on Road Access to NAMPO Park Please note that SANRAL has confirmed the closure of the R30 between Bothaville and Orkney due to significant water damage caused by the recent heavy rainfall. The structural integrity of the road has been compromised by water flowing underneath the surface, making conditions unsafe for general traffic. At this stage, SANRAL is allowing limited access to NAMPO Park traffic from the north side only (approaching from Orkney). Exhibitors and contractors needing access to NAMPO Park must clearly indicate at the roadblock that they are traveling to NAMPO to be permitted through. NAMPO management remains in close contact with SANRAL engineers and provincial traffic authorities. However, further assessments and repair planning can only proceed once the affected road sections have dried out sufficiently to allow for safe inspection. Within NAMPO Park itself, the grounds continue to dry out well, and management has implemented additional drainage measures to speed up the process and prepare the site for the Harvest Day. While access routes directly into the Park are improving daily, the external road infrastructure remains a challenge due to the extent of the water damage on the R30. The Couch Potato Run Club is rolling out their Couch to 5km programme, a 10-week running course designed for, well, the most unfit among us. Starting Monday, 26 May 2025, this beginner-friendly initiative will take place twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays) at 6:00 am sharp, right outside Vida e Cafe in Vanderhoffpark, Potchefstroom. It's structured to ease complete newcomers into the world of running, offering a mix of walk-run intervals that gently build up to a full 5-kilometre run by the end. No One Gets Left Behind This isn't your typical bootcamp. The ethos is simple: no pressure, no judgment, and nobody gets left behind. The club keeps things light-hearted and community-focused.
