  • Understanding Uniforms in the Beauty Industry: A Guide for South African Spa and Salon Owners

When stepping into a beauty salon or spa, the ambiance plays a major role in setting the tone for the customer experience — and uniforms are a key part of that first impression. Uniforms aren't just about looking professional; they also speak to the brand identity, hygiene standards, and functional needs of the business. In the beauty industry, where close client interaction is the norm, uniforms serve both aesthetic and practical purposes. This article explores the various types of uniforms used across different industries, with a specific focus on the beauty spa and salon sector in South Africa. We’ll unpack what makes beauty uniforms unique, what to consider when choosing them, and how to balance fashion with functionality. 🧵 Types of Uniforms Across Industries Before narrowing in on the beauty industry, it’s useful to understand how uniforms differ across sectors: Healthcare Scrubs, lab coats - Sterile, easy to clean, antimicrobial Hospitality- Chef jackets, aprons, service tunics, Stain-resistant, branding elements, comfort Retail - Polos, branded T-shirts, name badges- Identification, mobility, branding Construction/Engineering - Hi-vis jackets, coveralls, steel-toe boots Safety compliance, visibility, durability Corporate - Blazers, formal shirts, name tags Professionalism, company colours Each industry’s uniform is tailored to its practical needs — and the same applies to beauty spas and salons. 💆 Beauty Spa and Salon Uniforms: What Makes Them Unique? Beauty professionals are always in motion — waxing, massaging, consulting, styling hair, doing nails — which means uniforms need to be flexible, durable, and presentable throughout the day. Here’s what defines salon and spa uniforms: Types of Uniforms in the Beauty Industry Tunic Tops and Pants: Often worn by therapists and aestheticians, tunics offer freedom of movement while maintaining a sleek look. Wrap Dresses and Kaftan Styles: Favoured in luxurious spa settings, offering comfort and a relaxing visual aesthetic. Lab Coats or Over-Jackets: Used by professionals handling chemicals (hair colourists, for example). Aprons and Protective Wear: Useful for makeup artists or nail techs to protect clothing from products and spills. Headwear and Hairnets: Particularly in spas, to maintain hygiene and keep hair out of treatments. Closed Comfortable Shoes: Safety, posture, and hygiene all play a role — especially during long shifts. 🇿🇦 Uniform Considerations for South African Beauty Spas and Salons In South Africa’s diverse and competitive beauty landscape — from high-end day spas in Cape Town to bustling salons in Johannesburg — local businesses should consider the following when choosing uniforms: 1. Climate and Comfort South Africa’s regional climates vary widely. Light, breathable fabrics like cotton-blends or moisture-wicking materials are ideal for hotter areas like Limpopo or KwaZulu-Natal. In cooler climates like the Highveld or Western Cape winters, layered options may be necessary. 2. Cultural Sensitivity Reflecting modesty and cultural preferences through uniform designs (e.g., sleeve length, skirts vs. pants) can help make both staff and clients more comfortable. 3. Brand Identity and Style Colours, embroidery, and styling should align with the brand’s visual identity — soft colours for tranquil spas, bold colours for modern urban salons. Customised embroidery (e.g. therapist name and role) adds a personal and professional touch. 4. Functionality and Durability Salons deal with hair dye, oils, wax, nail polish, and makeup — all of which can stain or damage fabric. Uniforms need to be made from durable, easy-to-clean materials. Stretch panels or tailored cuts can provide a better range of movement. 5. Regulatory and Health Standards Although not as strictly regulated as the healthcare industry, spa and salon uniforms in South Africa must still comply with health codes, especially where treatments involve skin contact or use of chemicals. Closed shoes and minimal jewellery are often required for health and safety. 🛍️ What to Look for When Choosing Uniforms Here’s a checklist for salon owners when selecting uniforms: ✔ Easy to clean and resistant to stains ✔ Allows mobility and comfort ✔ Reflects your brand’s colours and style ✔ Includes your logo or business name ✔ Provides sizing options for all body types ✔ Made from breathable, durable fabric ✔ Is affordable for bulk ordering and replacements 👗 Trends in Beauty Uniforms Modern beauty uniforms are shifting toward spa-luxe styles — think soft silhouettes, earthy tones, and fabrics that move with the body. There is also a rise in eco-conscious uniforms using sustainable materials and local South African designers. ✂️ Final Thoughts Your salon or spa’s uniform is more than just clothing — it’s a statement of professionalism, care, and brand personality. South African spa and salon owners are encouraged to invest in uniforms that balance comfort, style, hygiene, and cultural consideration. After all, a well-dressed team is often the face of a well-run business.   Haya Collections Trusted Supplier of High Quality Uniforms Haya Collections, established in 2013, has become a trusted name in providing high-quality uniforms across various industries, including healthcare, beauty, and hospitality. • Potch Gazette - April 2025 Edition

In this Edition Floods, Rain and Vaal Sluices JB Marks and the Battle of Sewage JB Marks Continued Potholes and Actions Kwêla Dorp van die Jaar Community Policing Forum Visits The Go-To Guy Stroomstorie Studio PAWS Call for Help Potchefstroom Schools Continue to Shine Potch Dorp Rugbyclub Updates and News StroomStorie Studio Visitors StroomCares Community Projects Floods, Rain and Vaal Sluices Flooding Causes Severe Damage as Vaal Dam Opens 10 Gates In late April 2025, communities along the Vaal River faced severe flooding after intense rains pushed the Vaal Dam beyond its capacity, prompting emergency releases through its sluice gates. On April 25, water levels surged dramatically, peaking at over 118% of capacity. The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) responded swiftly, progressively opening sluice gates throughout the day. By noon, officials had opened a ninth gate, releasing more than 1,100 cubic metres of water per second. A tenth gate followed shortly thereafter, highlighting the severity of the situation. Engineers closely monitored the dam wall, and DWS assured the public that all necessary precautions were being taken to prevent overtopping or structural failure. High Alert for Parys, Bloemhof, and Vaal Triangle Downstream communities such as Parys, Bloemhof, and the broader Vaal Triangle remained on high alert. Residents near the riverbanks in Parys had already been evacuated as river levels rapidly rose. Authorities had established community shelters, urging anyone within the 100-year floodline to relocate immediately. Roads between Potchefstroom and Parys and Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp, were severely impacted. Water pooled on road surfaces, causing hazardous conditions and partial road closures. Local authorities continuously updated residents, cautioning against travel unless absolutely necessary. Disaster management teams advised residents to relocate livestock to higher ground, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of the flooding. Communication lines stayed open, with frequent updates disseminated via local municipality channels. Damage and Destruction in Parys Despite these precautions, Parys experienced significant flooding damage. Homes along the riverbanks were inundated, and several businesses faced severe water damage. Infrastructure was hit particularly hard—bridges sustained structural impairments, and roads became impassable. Local farmers also felt the brunt, losing livestock and dealing with extensive damage to irrigation systems. The impact was extensive, prompting emergency services to operate shelters for displaced residents. Potchefstroom Grapples with Flood Impacts Potchefstroom and nearby areas also suffered. A critical stretch between Potchefstroom and Parys flooded, forcing drivers to use alternate routes such as the "tronkpad" to reach their destinations safely. Conditions worsened northward, as the N12 highway between Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp experienced severe flooding. Officials partially closed the highway, diverting vehicles due to deep water and debris. The South African Weather Service had earlier issued a Level 2 disruptive rain warning, cautioning residents of further risks to roads, bridges, and settlements in the region. Response and Ongoing Precautions By early May, floodwaters had begun receding, allowing DWS to gradually close some sluice gates. Still, recovery efforts continued as communities assessed the damages. Emergency services and local municipalities maintained high alert levels, encouraging residents to remain cautious due to saturated grounds and possible future rainfall. Residents were encouraged to stay vigilant, follow official channels for updates, and cooperate with local disaster management teams until the flooding threat fully subsided. JB Marks and the Battle of Sewage The JB Marks Concerned Citizens (JBMCC) group took decisive legal action demanding accountability and urgent responses from JB Marks Local Municipality and Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality following a troubling increase in sewage spillages across Potchefstroom. A City in Crisis Residents from various suburbs, including Promosa, Baillie Park, Central Town, Van der Hoff Park, and others, had been documenting severe sewage overflows that left homes unsanitary, public spaces polluted, and parts of the Mooi River and nearby wetlands dangerously contaminated. Major affected locations included: Meadow Street Kock Street Jan Smuts Avenue Parys Avenue Abraham Street (Promosa) Ben Pienaar Street Drommedaris Street Graphic evidence shared by residents depicted open sewage flowing onto streets and yards, causing unbearable odours and significant health risks. Sewerage leaking and overflowing photos from residents Legal Intervention: Seeking Immediate Action On behalf of JBMCC, Andreas Peens Attorneys issued a formal legal demand on 10 April 2025, highlighting the municipality's continued infringement of Section 24 of the Constitution, guaranteeing every citizen's right to a healthy environment. The communication criticized the persistent neglect by local authorities, referencing previous court findings related to service delivery failures in the Poortjie Dam case. JBMCC presented a firm ultimatum: Immediate clean-up and repair of sewage infrastructure by noon, 16 April 2025. Provision of an official report outlining steps taken to address current issues and future spillages. Non-compliance would prompt an urgent court application compelling municipal action. Municipality Responds: Steps Towards Improvement In a recent development, the JB Marks Local Municipality announced the installation of an additional pump, previously undergoing repairs, designed to significantly reduce sewage levels. This announcement came following direct communication between JB Marks Executive Mayor and local Ward Councillors. Further addressing environmental concerns, authorities confirmed that rehabilitation efforts for wetland areas impacted by sewage spills would soon commence. This move aims to restore ecological balance and safeguard public health and local biodiversity. Why This Matters These steps represent critical progress in addressing a crisis that not only impacts public health but threatens significant environmental harm, particularly to the Mooi River and nearby wetlands. Such contamination poses severe risks, especially to ecosystems like the OPM Prozesky Bird Sanctuary. Community Call to Action JBMCC continues urging residents to document and report any sewage issues actively. The collective action and vigilant oversight of the community remain vital in ensuring sustained accountability and improvements in municipal service delivery. Recent actions from JB Marks Municipality, including installing a previously repaired sewage pump and planning wetland rehabilitation, offer hope—but our work isn't done. Now, more than ever, residents must show up and demand lasting solutions. This is About Our Home – Not Politics Potchefstroom has been pushed to the brink. Sewage spills have become commonplace, contaminating our parks, homes, and even the Mooi River. Families are still living amidst unbearable odours, blocked toilets, and unacceptable health risks. Last week, legal action initiated by JB Marks Concerned Citizens (JBMCC) demanded urgent municipal intervention. Despite positive recent steps, it's critical to maintain momentum. A Shocking Reality Every year, R40 million intended for municipal infrastructure upgrades is returned unused to National Treasury. Consider this carefully: While our community battles deteriorating sewage infrastructure and children navigate polluted streets, the resources for solutions sit idle. Your Presence Matters Attend the upcoming Draft Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Budget Review: Wednesday, 7 May 2025 at 17:00, at the Madiba Banqueting Halls This meeting decides whether the allocated R40 million will finally fix our sewage crisis or disappear again. Representatives from all impacted wards (2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 15, 22, 23, 24, 25, and 28) will be present. Your elected councillors are ready to speak, but they can't do it without your backing. When we attend in numbers, we transform apathy into action. Everyone’s Fight – Beyond Political Lines This issue transcends political differences. It’s about dignity, health, and a safe environment for everyone. Potchefstroom is your city, and this budget is your money. Right now, our city urgently needs your support. • Candy Floss: History, Culture, and Modern Appeal

When it comes to sweet treats, few things spark as much joy and nostalgia as candy flos s. Also known as cotton candy  (in the United States) or fairy floss  (in Australia), this airy confection has been delighting children and adults around the world for over a century. In this report, we explore the global history  of candy floss, its cultural evolution  with a focus on South Africa, the sensory and psychological appeal  that draws people to it, its enduring role as a beloved treat at events , and some modern-day uses  in marketing and experiential contexts. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations Global History and Origin of Candy Floss Early Spun Sugar:  The concept of candy floss has roots in early confectionery. Long before modern machines, skilled confectioners in 18th-century Europe were making spun sugar treats by hand candyflossevents.com . They would melt sugar into a syrup and use forks or tools to pull it into fine threads, creating web-like sugar sculptures. Because this process was labor-intensive and sugar was expensive, these delicate confections were a luxury enjoyed only by the elite . (In Renaissance Italy, for example, chefs would drape spun sugar over broom handles to cool, but only the wealthy could afford such treats gmpopcorn.com .) These early efforts set the stage for what would become candy floss. Invention of the Cotton Candy Machine:   The candy floss we know today took shape in the late 19th century. In 1897, William Morrison , a dentist with a sweet vision, teamed up with John C. Wharton , a confectioner, to revolutionize how spun sugar was made gmpopcorn.com . They didn’t invent  spun sugar itself, cooks had made sugar strands for centuries, but they invented the first electric candy floss machine , which automated the process crazyandco.uk . Their device heated sugar and used centrifugal force to spin it through tiny holes, forming thin, floss-like strands . By mechanizing what was once a tedious hand craft, Morrison and Wharton made it possible to produce candy floss quickly and in large quantities. World’s Fair Debut (1904):   It took a few years to bring this invention to the public, but in 1904 the duo introduced their “fairy floss” at the St. Louis World’s Fair  (also known as the Louisiana Purchase Exposition) gmpopcorn.com . The reception was phenomenal. Visitors were captivated by the novelty of eating sweet “cotton” from a box, and during the fair’s seven-month run Morrison and Wharton sold over 68,000 boxes  of the treat at 25 cents each. This was quite expensive for the time (equivalent to around $6–$7 today), yet people happily paid for the experience. the pair grossed over $17,000, which is about $410,000 in today’s dollars . The success of fairy floss  at the World’s Fair introduced the treat to a wide audience and cemented its popularity. Soon after, the inventors commercialized their product by selling machines to other vendors and even advertising “electric candy” in newspapers spunparadise.com . Names Around the World:   As the sugary invention spread internationally, different countries coined their own names. In the United States, the name “cotton candy”  was adopted in the 1920s, reportedly popularized by another dentist, Josef Lascaux, who thought the fluffy confection resembled Louisiana cotton and wanted to differentiate it from “fairy floss” spunparadise.com . In the United Kingdom (and many Commonwealth countries like South Africa), it retained the name “candy floss,”  emphasizing the flossy texture of the sugar threads crazyandco.uk . Australians (and some others) charmingly call it “fairy floss,”  harking back to the original moniker . Many languages use playful imagery: the French call it barbe à papa  (“daddy’s beard”), the Dutch suikerspin  (“sugar spider”), and in Persian it’s pashmak  (likening it to soft wool). Notably, in South Africa the Afrikaans language gave it the poetic name “spookasem,”  which literally means “ghost’s breath”, a nod to its wispy, ethereal quality cottoncandyvending.com . These whimsical names illustrate how universally enchanting this treat became in different cultures. Evolution of the Treat:   After its debut, cotton candy quickly became a fixture at fairs and carnivals across America and beyond. To meet demand, the technology also evolved. By 1949, the Gold Medal company introduced the first commercially produced cotton candy machine , improving reliability and ease of use gmpopcorn.com . This mid-century innovation meant vendors everywhere could obtain machines and spin out treats on the spot. Further refinements came in the following decades, for instance, an automatic cotton candy machine was patented in 1972, streamlining production even more . The basics of the machine have remained similar to Morrison and Wharton’s design, but modern machines are more efficient and even portable. Today, cotton candy makers come in all sizes, from industrial models to countertop home units . One of the more recent innovations is the advent of automatic cotton candy vending machines : these let customers watch a machine spin sugar into floss at the push of a button, even allowing choices of color or flavor for an interactive treat experience cottoncandyvending.com . Through all these changes, the essence of candy floss, spun sugar and air, remains the same, a testament to the simple magic of the original idea spunparadise.com . Image: The Go-To Guy Creations Cultural Evolution of Candy Floss in South Africa After its rise in the early 20th century, candy floss became a beloved treat in many countries, and South Africa was no exception. Owing to British influence (and shared trends with Europe), South Africans became familiar with “candy floss”  as the English term. Meanwhile, the Afrikaans term “spookasem”  gained popular usage, vividly describing the candy as “ghost’s breath” for its light, disappearing wisps cottoncandyvending.com . This local name indicates how firmly the treat embedded itself in South African culture: it wasn’t just an imported novelty, but something people named in their own imaginative way. By the mid-20th century, candy floss had become a staple of South African fairs, festivals, and family outings , much as it was elsewhere. It was commonly found at traveling carnivals, school fêtes, church bazaars, and holiday markets across the country. For instance, older generations fondly recall how no outing to the zoo or a day at the seaside was complete without a bag of pink candy floss in hand. Even company-sponsored community events featured it, one anecdote from a mining town in the 1950s recounts that at the annual Christmas party for miners’ children, “there were lucky packets and there was spookasem [candy floss] and it was all there, you just went”. In other words, candy floss was an expected part of the fun, as natural as cake or balloons at a celebration. Such memories show that South Africans embraced candy floss as a symbol of festivity and childhood delight, just as people did in the U.S. or Europe. In terms of how it’s consumed or sold in South Africa, the tradition has long mirrored global practices. At funfairs and amusement parks , vendors spin fresh candy floss in open-air stalls, twirling the sugary webs onto sticks or into plastic bags. The sight of a big spinning drum and the sweet smell of caramelized sugar often draws a queue of excited children (and adults). Street vendors might sell pre-packaged candy floss  in clear bags at local sports matches or beachfront promenades, bright pink puffs visible through the plastic, calling out to passersby. Over time, entrepreneurial twists have appeared too. For example, some vendors offer candy floss  in different colors or even multiple hues layered in a bag, appealing to the eye as much as the tongue. The treat’s popularity also extended to private events: it’s not uncommon to hire a candy floss machine (with an operator) for a kids’ birthday party or a school fundraiser, bringing that carnival excitement right to one’s backyard. In South Africa’s diverse society, candy floss crosses cultural and language lines , whether you grew up calling it candy floss, spookasem, or simply cotton candy, the experience of enjoying it remains universally joyous. Image: The Go-To Guy Creations This enduring presence of candy floss in South Africa’s markets and merriments reflects a larger cultural evolution. What started as a once-a-year novelty at big exhibitions became an everyday treat at local gatherings . Much like milk tart or koeksisters, candy floss earned its small place in the tapestry of South African treats. It is tied to childhood memories at the Johannesburg Zoo, summer nights at the Durban beachfront funfair, and energetic afternoons at the Rand Easter Show. Over generations, the treat has been woven into the fabric of celebratory occasions, a sugary thread connecting people across ages. For many families, an au pair provides peace of mind, knowing their children are safe and cared for in their own home environment. Typical Duties of an Au Pair 📝 Au pairs typically handle tasks like: School pick-ups and drop-offs  🚗 Homework supervision  📚 Meal preparation (simple snacks and lunches)  🥪 Managing after-school activities and playdates  ⚽ Ensuring kids stick to daily routines (bathing, bedtime, etc.)  🛁 Remember, au pairs generally don't do extensive house chores, they're focused primarily on your children's wellbeing and daily routine. • Vier Ma by Roosmaryn – Waar Gesin en Herinneringe Ontmoet

Dis hoekom Roosmaryn anders is. By Roosmaryn is daar plek vir binne- én buitesit. Dieper as ooit. 💜 💜🌿 💜🌿 💜🌿 💜🌿 💜🌿 Kontak Roosmaryn Selfoon: 082-228-1816 Epos: Kliek Hier Facebook Blad: Kliek Hier #Roosmaryn #Moedersdag #Gesinswaardes #Potchefstroom #Familierestaurant #PotchGazette #TheGoToGuy #StroomStories #Potchefstroom #Sportstroom

She finished around the 1 hour 50 minute mark, similar to her winning time of 1:53:22 from last year citizen.co.za . Groenewald’s victory marks her third consecutive national title in this event, underlining her dominance in South African women’s race walking. Zelda Schultz (Athletics Gauteng North) took the silver medal, and Marissa Swanepoel (AGN) earned bronze. Although no records were broken, Groenewald’s consistent performance cements her status as the country’s top female race walker. Men’s 20km Race Walk Final The men’s 20km walk saw Sizwe Ndebele (AGN) defend his title in approximately 1:30:00. Ndebele, who won last year in 1:31:42 athletics.africa , again struck gold with a solid performance around the 1:30-1:32 mark. Veteran Olympian Wayne Snyman did not compete, allowing Ndebele to push the pace alone. Tebatso Masinbyi (AGN) secured silver and Khathutshelo “Kelvin” Ntshiuwa (CGA) took bronze, both finishing several minutes behind the winner. While the times were well off Lebogang Shange’s national record (1:19:18), Ndebele’s back-to-back titles showcase his consistency. Women’s Long Jump Final Danielle Nolte (Gauteng North) delivered a commanding win in the women’s long jump final. She leaped 6.31 m to earn the gold athleticssa.org.za , the only athlete to break the 6-meter mark. Nolte’s winning jump was nearly half a meter farther than her nearest competitors. Matsidiso Makgato (Mpumalanga) took silver with 5.85 m, and Oluchi Ndubueze (Central Gauteng) claimed bronze at 5.81 m. Nolte's performance, though shy of the national record (~6.96 m), was a personal best and a standout series of jumps, as she had multiple jumps over 6.2 m. No records fell, but Nolte’s victory at age twenty indicates a rising star. Men’s 3000m Steeplechase Final The men’s 3,000m steeplechase final turned into a tactical affair. Ashley Smith (Western Province) prevailed in 8:52.23 to take gold instagram.com , kicking away over the final water jump. Aphelele Nkonyeni (KZN) claimed silver in 8:56.23, and local favorite Tumisang Monnatlala (Central North West) grabbed bronze in 9:14.89. Smith, a former World U20 finalist, utilized his finishing speed skillfully to outduel Nkonyeni on the last lap. The winning time was relatively modest, well outside the 8:14 national record. The early pace of the race was slow, which opened the door for Smith's victory. Women’s Javelin Throw Final With defending champion Jo-Ané du Plessis (Van Dyk) absent, the women’s javelin final saw a new champion. Johanni van Lieshout (Free State) won gold with a best throw of 55.68 m. She led from the first round and sealed victory with that throw in Round 5. Julé du Toit (AGN) took silver (approximately 53 m), and Tazmin Brits (North West), returning to athletics from cricket, snared bronze with 52 m. While no one approached Van Dyk’s 60.38 m throw from the Diamond League a day earlier, van Lieshout's triumph was a breakthrough at the national level. Highlights from 800m Finals Women’s 800m: In one of the performances of the meet, Prudence Sekgodiso stormed to gold in 1:58.80 thetoprunner.co.za . The reigning World Indoor champion went out fast and controlled the race. She became the only woman to dip under 2 minutes. Charné Swart fought hard to finish second in 1:58.98, a personal best. This thrilling head-to-head between Sekgodiso and Swart electrified the stadium as Sekgodiso pulled ahead in the homestretch. There were no disqualifications in heats, making it a two-woman race. Men’s 800m: The men’s two-lap final did not disappoint. Tshepo Tshite defended his title in approximately 1:46.0, using a strong kick in the final 100m. The pre-race favorite, Tshite held off a late charge from Mihlali Xhotyeni, who claimed silver in about 1:46.3. Thabiso Kotlhe took bronze (~1:47.0). The race went out in a tactical 54-second first lap before Tshite unleashed a 52-second final circuit. Tshite’s win completed the first half of his ambitious schedule aiming for an 800m/1500m double attempt. Men’s Hammer Throw Final Defending champion Tshepang Makhethe (Free State) delivered a dominating series to win men’s hammer gold. Makhethe’s best throw of 73.26 m came in round 4, securing the title by a wide margin. Allan Cumming (Central NW) earned silver with 68.11 m, and 19-year-old Henk Pretorius (AGN) took bronze at 66.00 m. This marked Makhethe’s third national title, and he celebrated by acknowledging the crowd. A moment of significance came when his hammer landed beyond 72 m, the only throw over 70 m in the competition. Men’s 200m Final The men’s half-lap final was filled with drama and speed. Olympic relay medalist Bayanda Walaza false-started and was disqualified before the gun, stunning the crowd. After the restart, Sinesipho Dambile powered to gold in 20.11 seconds. In a photo-finish for the podium, teenagers Naeem Jack (silver, 20.13) and Abduraghman Karriem (bronze, 20.15) both dipped under the World Championship qualifying standard thetoprunner.co.za . Women’s 200m Final The women’s sprint title went to Tamzin Thomas (Western Province). Thomas, who had been runner-up in the 100m, ran a sharp curve and clocked 23.11 seconds (-0.2 m/s wind) for gold. She held off Banele Shabangu (CGA), the 2022 champion, who finished second in 23.33s. The bronze was claimed by Joviale Mbisha (ACNW) in 23.50s. Thomas’s victory was redemption after a narrow 100m loss, building a two-meter lead coming off the bend. Men’s Triple Jump Final In the men’s triple jump final, Yehan Coetzee (AGN) produced a late winning jump to grab gold. Coetzee bounded 16.54 m (+1.0 m/s) in the fifth round, moving from third to first. Thando Dlodlo (CGA) surprised with silver at 16.47 m, achieved in the second round. The bronze went to Gabriel Louw (ACNW) with 16.10 m. Late in the competition, Mpho Tladi (AFS) fouled his last two jumps, slipping to fourth. Coetzee’s title marked a personal best distance, making him the only jumper over 16.5 m. Men’s 110m Hurdles Final Veteran hurdler Antonio Alkana (Western Province) extended his national reign by winning his ninth SA 110m hurdles title. Alkana clocked 13.67 seconds (+0.3 m/s) for gold, cleanly clearing every hurdle. He held off Munyaradzi Zvomuya (AGN), who took silver in 13.85. Women’s High Jump Final The women’s high jump final ended in a jump-off to decide gold. Julia du Plessis (AGN) and Nicolette van Vuuren (AFS) both cleared 1.82 m. Du Plessis clinched the gold medal by clearing 1.80 m on her first attempt, while van Vuuren needed two tries. Women’s 100m Hurdles Final South Africa’s “hurdles queen” Marioné Fourie (AGN) won the 100m hurdles in 13.02 seconds (+0.5 m/s), marking her second consecutive national title. Jean-Marie Senekal (ACNW) took silver in 13.44, and Claudia Heunis (WPA) snagged bronze in 13.58. Women’s Shot Put Final The women’s shot put gold went to Colette Uys (AGN) in a tight contest. Uys threw 16.99 m in the final round, leaping into first place. Ischke Senekal (Free State) had to settle for silver with a throw of 16.85 m, and the bronze went to rising talent Miné de Klerk (ACNW) with 16.20 m. Men’s 400m Finals The standout performance of the championships happened in the men’s 400m. Zakithi Nene (KZN) unleashed a stunning run to win gold in 44.22 seconds. This time makes him the 2nd-fastest South African in history over this distance. Women's 400m Finals Miranda Coetzee (AGN) clinched the women’s 400m final in 51.82 seconds. Coetzee, the African champion, took control of the race by the 300m mark, ultimately securing her victory. 1500m Finals Women’s 1500m: Prudence Sekgodiso completed a middle-distance double by winning the final just a couple of hours after her 800m triumph, clocking 4:11.34 for gold. • Project Play, Learn, Prosper - Olive

When Life Touches You The Go-To Guy today got woken to something that before did not cross our minds, this through an outreach for a project, that one little corner in Potchefstroom wishes to activate, and the incredible wisdom we garnered from an insight shared with us during that research. We discovered the Olive Tree School, a school for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and then we discovered the story of a mother and fathers love for a child. Yet what really touched us was a little line that we read in the story of the school, and the parents of Olivia, when their daughter Olivia was diagnosed with ASD, that line being "she led us from a planned parenthood journey, and instead took us on hers" , pause here and let this line sink in... from your plans to a journey, a special journey that you did not plan for, a journey that is led by your little girl, a journey that is filled by not by words, but by watching her, being with her and witnessing simple excitements that touches hearts, not ears, and the power of love. A Different World In our research we read about Autism, discovered a world we never think about, a world that in many respects are different from ours, yet it's also a world where we discovered that it is not about what people say, its not about how people may judge, its a world where everyday there is love shared, perhaps different, yet also powerful. The diagnosis of Olivia's ASD also had a reality moment for her parents, schooling, and the reality that in Potchefstroom there were no school to cater for the special child Olivia was, and that moment led to action, powerful action, 'let's start a school here in Potchefstroom', not an easy task, and one that can only be built on an intense passion, an intense dream and an intense willpower to succeed, they planted a seed instead of waiting for the shade. Today, the Olive Tree school operates a non-profit organisation (NPO) model as a private school, a specialised private school and aftercare center, a school where children with ASD can thrive, its a different school, a place where children are happy and safe, a place where individual needs are catered for, a place where children can grow in confidence and maximise their skills, a place where your little Olivia would feel loved and cared for. More than a Name Interesting Note: the name Olive, is also the Values Acronym for the school: O pportunities - Embrace every opportunity L ove - Love and be kind to each other I nspire - Encourage and be positive V alue - You are valuable, respect yourself and others E njoy - Have fun and live in the moment The school name, The Olive Tree, was not only chosen for our school because of its rich and meaningful symbolism. The Olive Tree traditionally symbolises Peace, Friendship, Victory, Wisdom, Prosperity and Success The Olive Tree School Project The school identified a new project, that we here at The Go-To Guy gave a name, that being Project "Play, Learn, Prosper" , this is the project placed on the table of the community today, a project that could make a real difference, a difference to our children, the world they touch, and the love they bring, Olive Tree wishes to provide the children with a playground, a playground that is designed to develop skills in a playful and natural play manner, this playground is designed to foster play, social interaction and sensory development, and consists of the following: Jungle Gym Sensory Patthway Vetgetable Garden In-Ground Trampolines New Sand for Sandpit plus a cover Painting and Refreshing of Pathways Conveyer Swings, Round Swing Frame and Swing Frame The Financials The reality is that this project will require funding, funding that is not available from the school, and funding that will make a lasting difference to the little Olivia's at Olive Tree, and fill the playground with that intense happiness indicator called laughter. The total project costs are as follows: Description Total Trampolines R18,000 Sandpit Sand R4,000 Sandpit Cover R2,500 Jungle Gym Option 1 (Timber) R18,000 Jungle Gym Option 2 (Plastic) R46,000 Round Swing Frame R22,400 Spider Swing/Basket Swing R2,300 Conveyer Swings R3,600 Swing Frame R15,000 Sensory Pathway R6,000 Painting/Refresh Pathways R3,000 How to Support this Project You are invited to get in touch with Olive Tree school at any of the following details: Email: Click Here WhatsApp: Click Here Mobile Phone: 084-315-8006 Follow the Olive Tree School Facebook To follow Olive Tree and stay updated you can follow them on Facebook at the following link: Click Here Project Playground Project and Donation Reference Documents
