The final stretch , measuring 87 meters by 8 meters , marks the closing phase of what officials describe as a transformative urban upgrade . Supervisor Orlando Zandamela  commended the team’s consistency and attention to detail, describing the nearing completion as a “finish line in sight” moment for the department. 💧 Water Services: Progress and Precision Under the supervision of Ntate Sebatana  and Mpho Kometsi , the Water Services Department  achieved several technical interventions aimed at improving meter management and water accountability  across multiple neighborhoods. The operations included new meter installations, repairs to damaged valves, and reconnections  at more than ten sites , including Bathong, Moloto, Lerothodi, and various extensions in Ikageng. Sebatana highlighted the department’s focus on “precision and reliability,” emphasising that proper meter management is essential to long-term water sustainability. 🚽 Sanitation and Sewer Maintenance: Safety and Restoration The Sanitation Division , led by Acting Superintendent Ntate Motsamai , reported eight successful sewer interventions  across Potchefstroom and Ikageng, including mainline restorations on Pitso, Moledi, and Khuti streets. While most operations were successful, a critical safety concern  was raised at Nelson Mandela Street , where a damaged manhole poses a risk to pedestrians. The municipality confirmed that specialist tools and reconstruction teams  would be deployed to rebuild the manhole as a matter of urgency. Motsamai noted that “public health and safety remain top priorities,” with teams focusing equally on sewer restoration and hazard prevention. 🌳 Community Services: Visible Improvement at Promosa Entrance The Parks Division , under the leadership of Director Ziphora Vavane , carried out comprehensive cleaning and clearing operations  at the Promosa municipal entrance . The project forms part of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) , which provides employment while improving the city’s aesthetic appeal. Repair work is scheduled to begin on 28 October 2025 , following completion of a technical assessment. Residents have been urged to use water sparingly  as supply restoration efforts continue. Meanwhile, the municipality reported critical declines in water levels  across Ventersdorp reservoirs , with some falling below 55%. The Eesterandjies 5ML reservoir  was identified as particularly vulnerable, recording a critically low level of 9.09% . Officials confirmed that emergency resources  are being deployed to stabilize these zones and restore balanced distribution across the system. 📊 Reservoir Recovery and Performance Trends According to the report, reservoir recovery has been strong in Ikageng , with key facilities such as the Ikageng Main  and Vyfhoek Complex  operating at levels above 89% . However, the contrast with Ventersdorp’s declining reservoirs  highlights the uneven recovery  within the municipal network. Water Services Director Mabobo Tintswalo  described the situation as “a tale of two systems,” acknowledging that while progress has been made in some areas, others require immediate intervention. 🧱 Achievements and Accountability The municipality’s Executive Performance Dashboard  highlighted several milestones: Paving:  85% completion milestone on Louis Le Grange Street Water Services:  10 technical interventions completed Sanitation:  9 locations restored or cleared Waste Management:  100% success rate Community Services:  Strategic entrance cleanup completed However, the report also noted reporting gaps  in key operational units, including Road Patching, Fleet Management, Road Marking, and the Electricity Department , prompting a call from the Municipal Manager  for full compliance and improved communication. 🏛️ Leadership Statements: Progress with Urgency In a closing briefing, the Municipal Manager  emphasised the need for synchronized reporting and real-time coordination between departments to ensure transparency and responsiveness. The Executive Mayor  praised the progress in infrastructure and community services but acknowledged the urgency of addressing mechanical failures and safety hazards. He reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to stabilising the water system , completing infrastructure projects , and maintaining open communication  with residents. Image: JB Marks 🔎 Summary Outlook JB Marks Municipality continues to balance achievement with accountability , managing both recovery and risk within a complex service network. • Storm Damage and Community Action in Klerksdorp and Matlosana

Jouberton power outage and voluntary pothole repairs highlight twin challenges of infrastructure and service delivery Over the past weekend in the City of Matlosana region and neighbouring Klerksdorp township of Alabama, two parallel stories emerged that speak to both community resilience and ongoing infrastructure stress. First, a storm damaged a flood-light at a local garage and left parts of Jouberton without electricity. Second, residents in Alabama took it upon themselves to fill potholes in their area as formal service delivery lagged behind. Storm damage and power outages in Jouberton A severe storm recently struck the Jouberton area, resulting in the collapse of a bulk flood-light at the local KHS/Shell garage site. The fallout from the storm has been significant: parts of Jouberton remain without electricity while municipal crews assess the damage. Reports indicate that multiple trees and rooftops were affected as well. The municipal power‐outage tracker for the region currently lists emergency interruptions for Klerksdorp without clear timing for full restoration. Local residents have expressed frustration about the uncertainty and the impact on daily life. Community fills the gaps in Alabama Meanwhile, in the Alabama township near Klerksdorp, residents have stepped up to repair large potholes and damaged streets themselves, a response born from urgency and frustration. While no formal report names the exact tyres or damage caused, this action underscores the sense of local responsibility in the face of municipal delays. Previous media coverage of the area noted deep concerns over deteriorating roads in the broader Klerksdorp/Matlosana region, with constituents claiming that potholes pose serious risks to vehicles and safety. What this says about service delivery These twin incidents, one a result of natural forces, the other of ageing infrastructure and municipal backlog, reflect deeper issues in service delivery across the region. When weather events strike, recovery (such as restoring power, fixing downed infrastructure) relies on responsive municipal systems and budgets. When road infrastructure deteriorates, the burden on communities rises if local government action is slow. In Alabama, the self–help approach is both commendable and a sign of frustration: the community is doing the job of the municipality. In Jouberton, the outage shows how natural events can amplify existing vulnerabilities in utility networks. Community and municipality response The City of Matlosana has acknowledged the outage in Jouberton and indicated that restoration is underway, though no specific timeline has been made public. Residents are urged to report any downed lines or hazards to municipal services. For the road-repairs in Alabama, the local municipality has yet to issue a detailed response beyond noting the backlog in road-maintenance funding. Two sides of the same coin What connects the storm damage incident in Jouberton with the community pothole repairs in Alabama is the overarching theme of infrastructure stress and community agency. Whether faced with a downed flood-light and outage or shifting tar and potholes, residents in the Matlosana/Klerksdorp area are proving resilient, but also reminding municipal authorities that infrastructure isn’t just about grand projects, but everyday basics: roads, power, lighting, safety. #TheGoToGuy #Klerksdorp #AlabamaCommunity #ServiceDelivery #RoadMaintenance #FixOurRoads #ActiveCitizens #Matlosana #InfrastructureCrisis #RoadSafety 🌩️⚡🛣️👷‍♂️🔧

  • City of Matlosana mayoral charity golf day raises R430,000 for youth education

The City of Matlosana  once again demonstrated the power of community collaboration and compassion through the 2025 Mayoral Charity Golf Day , held on Friday, 24 October  at the scenic Orkney Golf Course . The event, officially opened by Executive Mayor Fikile Mahlophe , brought together business leaders, councillors, and municipal employees for a day that blended competitive sport with a noble cause, raising funds for underprivileged youth seeking access to higher education. Image: City of Matlosana Purpose: Reviving Hope for Students in Need The annual golf day was more than a networking opportunity; it was a focused effort to revive the Mayor’s Bursary Scheme , a fund that assists deserving students with registration fees and educational expenses. In recent years, the discontinuation of municipal bursary funding left many aspiring students unable to take the first step toward their academic dreams. Determined to change that, Mayor Mahlophe rallied the business community to stand shoulder to shoulder with the municipality in restoring opportunities for the youth. “We believe in partnering with business to create not only access to education but pathways to employment once students complete their studies,” said Mayor Mahlophe. “Today is about building a future where no young person is denied opportunity because of their financial situation.” A Day of Competition and Compassion The event featured spirited competition across various categories, with golfers motivated by both camaraderie and community spirit. In the Women’s Category , Ms. Mphonyana Mkhondo  emerged victorious, displaying skill and poise on the course. The Men’s Category  was won by Mr. Hendrick Mvundlela , whose consistent performance earned him top honors. Ms. Mpho Mkhondo  received the second prize , a one-night stay at Oryx Hotel , while Mr. Matlala  claimed the first prize , a two-night stay sponsored by Rio Casino . Throughout the day, participants played with purpose, knowing that every swing contributed to a greater goal, empowering the next generation of Matlosana’s leaders. Image: City of Matlosana Fundraising Success: Exceeding Expectations By the end of the event, a total of R430,000  had been raised for the Mayor’s Bursary Fund , surpassing its original target. The overwhelming response from sponsors, donors, and local businesses showcased the region’s unwavering spirit of ubuntu  and its dedication to community upliftment. The funds will directly assist underprivileged students  with tertiary education registration fees, providing a stepping stone toward careers that can uplift entire families and communities. Community Partnerships and Corporate Support The event underscored the essential role of partnerships between government and business in driving social progress. Corporate contributors such as Rio Casino  and Oryx Hotel , both long-standing supporters of Matlosana’s community initiatives, helped ensure the day’s success through their generous sponsorships. The collaboration also reflected a broader commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)  within the region, showing how teamwork between sectors can yield tangible, life-changing results. A Milestone for Matlosana’s Youth The 2025 Mayoral Charity Golf Day  was a resounding success, not only in its fundraising outcome but in rekindling hope across the district. The R430,000 raised represents far more than financial aid , it symbolizes belief in the potential of young people, unity between sectors, and the strength of shared purpose. #TheGoToGuy #MatlosanaCharityGolfDay #MayoralBursaryFund #CityOfMatlosana #YouthEducationSupport #OrkneyGolfCourse #UbuntuInAction 🏌️‍♂️🎓💚🏆🤝
